I always look at the Andy Griffin Show as a wholesome, yea, somethings a little cheesy but that's okay. I sometimes get exhausted in some of the other shows because they don't always demonstrate the innocence of even grown adults. Haha

Yeah it was targeted at traditional white families who were fed up with all the civil rights movements by minorities and women (all those pesky people). He wanted a TV show where people could forget about progress and just remember the good-ol-days of post-war America before women realized they were full citizens.

@@UniversalStandard you missed the point of my comment. I was a child in the 60's and maybe early 70's when this show was in production. Watching this show takes me back to what was a better time in the life of a child who lived through that time period. Politics and war or threat of war was not a concern for us. Its nostalgic for us. I guess you lived through all of that from ww2. What did those wars have to do with the Andy Griffith show

I am about 2 years older than Ron Howard, so we are contemporaries. I lived in a small farm town in Northern California for some years as a kid in the early 1960s and it was just like Mayberry. You knew almost everyone in town and parents looked out for all the kids, not just their own. Cars were left unlocked, bikes left in the front yards, and nothing was stolen. Those were great times. I loved living in Winters, California and I loved the Andy Griffith Show

I really like the episodes, that are in black and white best. There are several that I can watch over and over, throughout the year. The spoiled rotten kid with his new bicycle; the time that the ‘guys’ lived alone, while Aunt Bee was away; the female prisoners up in that cabin and Floyd and Barney are their prisoners; the ‘Mr. Scrooge’ old store owner, who keeps trying to be arrested in order to have CHX with the other; when Aunt Bee arrives to take care of Opie (and Andy) and he wants the his newly married sitter to stay; when Opie sneaks in to the elderly ladies potting shed, for extra special flowers - - near the still; and so many others.

@Russell Collier : 😢 it’s very sad that some had rotten families. Shirley Temple’s parents spent all that money that she made, didn’t even put some away for when she became an adult. Patty Duke’s mother signed her over - - to that couple who worked her half to death and took a large fee, from what she earned. I’ve read the book, where she talks about that couple and that she had wanted to keep her real fist name - - Anna.

That is except for a married Andy sneaking off to a hotel on occasion with Aneta, the woman who was, according to Daniel de Vice in his book Andy and Don, the love of his life. There was a lot more that wasn't Mayberry- wholesome as well, such as the fact that Andy and Don drank quite a bit. We're dealing with fantasy here, but it was good fantasy.

@leo, I’m sure some of that may even be true. Being human means being flawed. The themes back then strived to put forward a positive message, a message of hope. Today, we can’t even define the difference between a man and women. The norm is to call good, bad and bad we accept as good. No, I will take those days any day of the week. At least they tried. We’ve given up.

Your god promoted human slavery and human sacrifice and countless genocides in the bible. I don't find any morals in that rag. The bible does make excellent firewood though.

This was like watching home movies of family. Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, Ron Howard, and Jim Neighbors, were people that came to our house every day for years. Ron helping Clint up into the trailer was precious. In listening to Clint Howard, I could hear shades of Ron in his voice, and at times, he sounded just like his brother, Ron.

And shows like this, Gomer Pyle, Beverly Hillbillies, etc. They were something like my baby sitter. You know? And it I would watch these shows all day. Especially in the summer. I loved them. Now I'm considered an old soul. Lol. Buy hey. I'm OK with that. Please let us to continue to bring us these gems. It's really cool.

Ran into Clint a couple times at N. Hollywood Park around '80/'81. After introducing myself, I joined him in a little fencing, slinging the epees around! I had no idea what I was doing, not being familiar at all with fencing (at 25). Nice guy, certainly, and I couldn't help but tell him I must've seen "Rock'n'Roll High School" (where he played Mr. Eaglebauer) two dozen times a couple years earlier (I had come to know the Ramones fairly well, and took friends to see it)!

Great insights from Clint and it’s clear that Rance Howard was an exceptional man who influenced the relationship between Opie and Andy and Andy Griffith appreciated his input.
