He was sometimes around in my Dojo in Zürich, Switzerland, although he did the main training in Aargau. He was a friend of Kaufmann, the founder of Swiss Budoka Karate Schools. But as i saw him, it was before he got popular, it was in the old days that you see with the Karate scenes instead of K9. A humble man, never arrogant, never a bad guy in any way. I never fought him, but i saw what he was capable of even before he made his breakthrough. He joked around, he trained and played around with the kids back in the old days in Wädenswil ZH. That was never serious, but we all knew, if you'd meet him in a tournament and he'd go full power, he was a machine and would have cut you down with a single kick or punch. He was the idol of all us back in this time, we admired him and his skills. We were shocked, as he passed away in 2000, it was a real bad time.

Fun fact, low spinning heel kicks are rarely used because it leaves you open for hooks and streight punches. But Hug times it perfectly to counter kicks, and eevn sets up high kick so that the opponent will be too bussy protecting his face to guard his knees.

Andy was fantastic! Rest in peace. I hope his son and his wife are still ok. Nearly 22 years since he flew by us. A big loss of a great legend. He passed away at the age of 36. Possible something wrong was administered in his medication otherwise it does not make any sense. An athlete must be a healthy person! He can't die in such a manner. Respect for all your carrier Andreas Hug! ❤️

@@MR_Wildcancer develop in an exponential way, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32,... and leukemia is one of the worst. Cancer of your bones and your bones produce your blood. So you will have quickly cancerous cells in the whole body. If he thought the problems of health he had (suspicious pains, less stamina,...) was the results of his fights, it could have delayed à lot any check up. And who would think such à perfect specimen of human being could have this crap? Even for a doctor, he seemed more like he would easily pass the 100 years... sad.

RIP to all those who say Traditional Karate techniques are useless in Mixed Martial arts. Just look at this legend Andy....if u have such solid base in any traditional form..u can win the world! Even in modern forms of UFC he would be a Heavyweight champion just because of his brilliance to think and execute so many variations while fighting.
@kevthegoat87742 жыл бұрын
Unless he learnt the ground there's no way he's be champion in UFC, he'd probably be a light heavyweight in UFC seeing as he usually weighed 215 at best. Andy's chin was very suspect too.

Andy, Lyoto, GSP, Uriah Hall, all prove those doubters and close minded people incorrect.
@kevthegoat87742 жыл бұрын
@@BruceWayne-fj9bm Maybe so but Andy would have to take plenty of time to learn the wrestling/BJJ aspect of MMA and how to strike in MMA as it's totally different with smaller gloves and the anticipation of a possible takedown. When it comes to kickboxers who did MMA there's guys like Mirko Cro Cop, Maurice Smith and Israel Adesanya and the there's people like Gokhan Saki, Hesdy Gerges, Errol Zimmerman, Stefan Leko etc

Ufc is complete garbage compared to kickboxing of 1990 to 2010. Crotch sniffing is so bad. Absolutely 0 arguments can make wrestling win vs kick boxing. They say oh it's a real fight on the ground ect ect. That's why you can't kick or knee to the head on the ground right? Ufc is shameful to real combat sports. Dana brags about the money/numbers after every big event. Just sad, old man bragging about money while he gets closer to death each day. He will wake up eventually. Pay their fighters well, give medical care ect.

Andy really was the goat. He took karate, something people usually criticised as being too traditional and outdated and not really suited for fighting in the ring, and turned it into his trademark weapon for winning in the ring. Not since Andy Hug has much anyone even come close to being able to use karate in the ring to his level, a few, but not much. Truly, a legend.
