I have studied, practiced and sparred in most forms of empty hand combat and martial arts. There is value in everything, you just have to be opened minded enough to look. Bruce Lee, Dan Inosanto have studied damn near everything and have taken what they liked and was useful from each discipline. Just simply being tough is not martial arts. A martial artist is a person who aspires to have great character, integrity, self discipline and fighting ability. Hopefully, beyond all that they try to pass it on to future generations. I absolutely love what Master Tetsuhiro Hokama has demonstrated here. He is so full of life and passion with a willingness to share his knowledge. This is a real martial artist. Please keep an open mind and enjoy all that the martial arts can offer!

The only secrets I know are watching Jack Dempsey in his prime--Joe Louis in his prime--Frazier in his prime--Foreman in his prime--Ali in his prime--Hagler in his prime--Robinson in his prime--Tyson in his prime. I have respect for true combat Karate, yes...it is a system that works. However, I simply don't and perhaps cannot understand the allure or reverence for many traditional martial arts...the only aspect I do appreciate is the spiritual component. Every traditional martial arts school I have ever had the opportunity to train in simply does not test themselves in true high pressure, high consequence situations. It's merely a bunch of exercises that maybe look cool and have a great deal of history behind them. Now, there are some schools of Karate that do spar full contact at near 100% force...but, seldom. Compare this experience to the experience of any old school, real western boxing gym. See how they spar--compare that to sparring in modern and traditional martial arts gyms. Why is it seldom to see comments such as "What a great old martial arts master...this should be cherished?" on KZbin from individuals watching Cus D'Amato explain the peekaboo style. He was in fact as skilled in the art of fighting as this man...I'm sure.

Everyone is feeling sorry for the black belt, but he's gaining more and more knowledge than anyone else. You feel it, you learn it. I've felt several of these techniques myself in training and they're no joke. I clicked here because of Okinawa and knew I'd see something. And while Seagal may be considered a joke these days, he clearly understands technique. Master Hokama is legit.

Same like they do with Wing Chun...they want it's name dead because a real practitioner with even a few years under his belt has the skill set to beat an MMA fighter. Funny the rules in UFC huh? Put there to limit a real martial artists ability by taking away his/her best techniques.

Finally! A master using a weapon as a prop instead of the center! How utterly wonderful! No one I talk with understands that all of life-especially the fighting arts-is dance. If you can dance spontaneously, anywhere, on any surface, under any environmental stress, misfortune, or threat of destruction, you've achieved mastery. That's what Musashi was going on about. Thanks so much for posting this.
@alg3rn0n735 жыл бұрын
That's a wonderful statement if pertaining to dance class at the promenade, however, Everything about this video in regards to actual fight techniques is nothing short of fodder that further exploits Steven as nothing more than a nostalgic 80s montage and this instructor as a loon leaning towards getting some poor kid killed in a street fight while trying to wrestle a head like a volley ball or whatever that jargon was intended to portray.

@@patinho5589 Neat, 45 minutes after Steven walked out of his establishment he likely spread the little known "fact" that Segall taught him the very move he needed to know to become 10th Dan forever putting Sensei in his debt.. 😄 This is a prime example of Steven carving a layer of respect off the bar by just being present. It's ok, Steven had a few years of globetrotting and fooling the world into believing that he was actually something more than delusional and "far from truthful" in regards to his own history.

@Axel Ave It's a ridiculous technique and a waste of time. It's like telling a student to "keep the balloon from hitting the ground" and convincing them the purpose is to build hand to eye coordination. Surely the student wouldn't feel safe up slapping a combative opponent in a serious situation, right? Of course not lol anyone with a brain stem would know better. The point is the technique itself is wasting the time of the student. At the end of the day, the accomplished task has enhanced no skills aside from creatively explaining the purpose of said task having already done it. What control is one gaining by squeezing a beach ball? Honestly? Balancing a baseball bat on the tips of your fingers will also teach you control, would you pay your hard earned money to flail around a dojo doing that? Lol nope! You can squeeze beach balls at home if you believe it to be useful. I'm at a dojo to learn skills. The "attitude" I'm carrying is simply 1. Doting over Segall is a quick way to exploit your ignorance towards his ability to quickly ruin your reputation seeing as though Segall has spent decades ruining his own. And 2. I'm not dedicating my paid time towards squeezing beach balls for whatever tired reason. You know what else teaches control over an opponent? Sparring, grapple training of almost any kind.. literally anything other than squeezing a ball lmao. If this indeed teaches a fight skill then the NBA has a plethora of possible black belts already one step closer to becoming efficient fighters..

It may look like over reacting but it will make you wince and may cry out..... Keep in mind street fighters don't practice every day even when they are sober. .....Men like these practice every day for hours. Most of the time they will avoid confrontations and keep away from street fights..even Gracie trainers say flee..get away avoid ...avoid...but if you are forced break something on attacker...do not sell anyone short......respect everyone ..don't Bragg...try not to criticize unless you have had at least 50 fights or more...learn to listen...... listen to learn..thank you and may GOD ALMIGHTY BLESS ALL OF YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES FOREVER IN CHRIST JESUS..

@@alxdava2004 i am talking about rhythm and point of impact, every real striking martial art utilise this. ask any boxing coach, they overutilise those two. secondly, you talk about real life application on what being shown, of course if you only monkey see monkey do, it wont work. it need certain physical trait in order of that to be working and knowledgeable of muscle and joints. for example i believe you know how hard is muay thai fighter shin right? it also the same with okinawan karate, they train their fingers and toes bones for tens of years to be that hard, that is why only senior practitioner has that degree of hardness. you can also see the same with other traditional martial artist, most of them has hardened certain part of their body, even if their understanding of pro fighting is lacking. it only means that they are not experienced in full fight spars. jujitsu back in the days need to go to redlight district and beat up thugs in order to upgrade their belt. that is what lack in today traditional martial art.
