Yes, you missed the part where the interesting people come in. Andy is too much of a jerk, and nobody wants to. Also, his culinary ideas are kinda meh. Andy/Bon team, I like the vids but I have something to add to this. I eat this style of food everyday (my wife is Thai Lao). I would change a few things with this; 1) use Oyster mushrooms, pan or oven roast them, then shred them like string cheese. 2) You must have Cilantro, obviously some peoole don't like it but it makes the dish. 3) You must also have pulverized toasted sweet rice (uncooked stickey rice that is pan toasted and pulverized....I use a vitamix). 3) Use Thai chilis, just less of them. 4) Finally, once everything is cut and the mushrooms are roasted and shredded, smash in a large clay or wood mortor and pestel. It helps create the texture and flavor of authentic Thai/Lao food (larb [pronounced laab] is more of a Laotion food].....should also be eaten with sticky rice (moderately if on diet).
@Hollis_has_questions5 жыл бұрын
i'm already planning on using Thai chilies, but love the cilantro idea! i'll also try some pan-toasted sweet rice powder, judging by many comments.

Lao community represent! 🇱🇦 Please educate yourselves, Thai restaurants we're introduced by Lao people in fear that marketing Lao restaurants won't be successful. Years ago, Thai people looked down on Lao people. Laab is actually a Laotian dish. We eat it with sticky rice.

@ihearttube5 жыл бұрын
Yeah as a Thai person I feel bad about this. We have a lot of dishes in common but, if I have to be specific, Laab is more a northeastern Thai dish than a Thai dish and could be more Laotian than Thai. Since the Laos-Thai borders were fluctuating for the past hundreds of years even before we have these modern nation-states, a lot of things are both. And Laos don't get enough credits for the food advertised as Thai. Actually many things are Thai to the West but they're actually shared by more than one ASEAN country like Som Tam and durian.

Added a bit more fish sauce than he did and a little ponzu...just bc we like ponzu. Its now completely different but the fix made something awesome and way more bareable. The chopped wilted cabbage makes it kind of like noodles which is pretty cool too.
