I watched a documentary on Dusty a few years ago that blew my mind. Dusty was an extremely shy introvert, a long-haired brunette with glasses who was considered cute and lived under her real name (The Springfields were a band with Dusty and her older brother), Mary O'Brian. She had massive stage fright and created the character, Dusty Springfield, losing the glasses, putting on a blonde wig and make-up and acting a role pretty much the opposite of who she was. Talk about bravery. It's a very difficult thing to face your fears but even more difficult to throw yourself into deep water head first while just learning how to swim. She was a true legend.
