Nik, you should do a Progression series of yourself learning how to scream even though you're mainly a guitarist, like a practice video once a week in-between your routines to see how you're progressing. that would be super fun and entertaining to watch

@Randuski
@Randuski 2 жыл бұрын
@@NotAManYouCanMend yes it was perfect. But there's a reason there's so many different methods of teaching it. You're basically tricking your body into doing the action, so then you can identify within your body, what to tighten, what to relax, so you can do it on command later. for some people, one trick will work perfectly. for other people, that trick doesn't work because they have a different relationship with their vocal tract. Stoked that you got it so quick! My false cords are a little harder to get moving. its not so easy for me to relax them and get them moving haha

Don't consume olive or any other oil for that matter. Not even vegetable oil. It raises your cortisol levels which lowers your testosterone levels (which completely kills your energy and makes you feel like shit). So does eating flax seeds or other lignans. So don't eat those. Don't consume fat free or flavored yogurt. And don't consume trans fats or hydrogenated oils (like in peanut butter). Alright, well, that's about it. See you.

Another thing I'd like to add: personally when tracking vocals for my stuff (Hardcore yelling) I like to get a warm, not hot, cup of water with throat coat with lemon, add agave and natural honey to it and sip on it in between takes. It helps with coating your throat if you begin to feel some wear and tear from it but also will help your recovery.

I would like to have an in-depth view of all his knowledge of why he prefers those methods above others and why things work the best for him with what he does. Awesome tips btw! He mentioned He mentioned Melissa Cross’s warmups, which I use to warmup for clean volcal as well as fry scream with satisfaction, (although I add a good 10+ minutes “fry warmup” after Melissa”s warmup to practice fry scream.) Melissa Cross’s warmup are fully explained in her first documentary about screaming, entitled “The zen of screaming.” It consists of a series of fourteen short melodic “exercises.” Each exercise repeats a short melody multiple times to cover your vocal range. The first two take the sound of “zzz.” Then is the “buzzer.” Then, with the sound of “eee,” you sing the notes 1-2-3-2-1 on one breath. Next exercise is the same, but you add notes 8 (octave)-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 after 1-2-3-2-1. Then comes “mee-gee-hee-hee-he-he-he,” all on one note, and repeat with higher and higher pitch... If you really can’t find the movie “The zen of screaming,” provide me with means of contacting you, and I’ll try to help you out.

@@ghastlyshimmer That's a good one too! There are so many people who talk about food regarding singing/screaming and everyone says something different, most of the times no alcohol or stuff like red bull (fizzle drinks) or whatever, but then there are also people who appreciate alcohol for singing..... Jared Dines made a video a very sarcastic video about what to do for screaming (for example: drink ice cold water, which you obviously shouldn't be doing) but i would seriously love to know what people really do to get it :)

I have a question about this-- what is the pain like? Sometimes I get a mild discomfort or like.. different-from-normal feeling where my throat feels slightly more sensitive I guess. It's not super noticeable and I don't know whether it's indicative of needing to take a break. If not, it means I can get more singing time which is good for practice and I enjoy it. It may just be dryness so when I get it I drink water but I'm not sure. Anybody have any thoughts or advice? I try to trust my body/do my best to quit when I think I should but I am a person who lacks common sense sometimes. Thanks in advance for anyone's thoughts/advice.

So I scream everyday and I can go on and on and on for maybe ~2 hours (3 hours on a good day). Not to be another comment asking for tutorials, but maybe someone in the comments can help me out. I'm capable of singing and want to condition myself to expand more on technique. However, when I sing, I can feel my diaphragm begin to spaz out after about 20-30 minutes and it starts to create some sort of hoarseness (but not the kind that hurts). Basically I could try and go for an extended note that's not out of my range but sits on the higher side for what's comfortable and upon projection it will just give out. Now, here's what I know. 1) Improper diaphragm control. Obviously both style of vocals utilizes it but singing is much more softer and needs to be controlled like a feather slowly falling to the ground. Screaming, well its like slamming into a barricade (the barricade being the barrier that protects you from damaging your voice). 2) Improper Breath control/lack of endurance. This is where I THINK my problems lie. Breathing sounds like something we don't have to think about but it's actually harder to maintain consistently where it keeps your diaphragm and your vocal chords at equilibrium when changing back and forth from screaming to singing. Maybe someone can share with me a little more detail about building that endurance and what you're looking for when controlling the diaphragm when it comes to singing and maintaining that composure. A band I used to be in when I got out of high school beyond-aphelion.bandcamp.com/ was kind of prog-metal-ish?.... the song structures didn't have structure and I would try to incorporate some metalcore/post-hardcore elements to what was basically a mess of instruments over one another (and no I did not like it lol). But the songs on there always managed to make my diaphragm give out even though I was comfortable in that range (only when practicing as a band and yes.... even live...it was embarrassing, don't wanna talk about it lol. lets just say I'd end up having to scream over some parts that were supposed to be singing to cover it up... and yes it tend to work.. especially metalcore shows where other bands didn't have any singing). Anyway, haven't played in a band in 3-4 years and notice I still have this problem despite trying to approach it differently everyday. Any thoughts?

Good vid man. The lows I can get easely but the highs in false chord, I feel so awkward with it

Yeah for some reason when I go high I just instinctively switch to using my throat lol. The best thing to do though when switching from comfortable lows to highs is to make sure you’re only changing mouth and tongue placement, not your distortion.

Same! My highs sound a bit strange, i use a lot of air but still don't have a 'solid' feeling, and idk whether I'm doing it correct or wrong. I have no friends who like these things so the only thing i can do is keep watching these videos but yeah, still can't get it.

Are you able to hit clean high notes without over tensing? That could be the biggest limiting factor.

Dude, I was able to apply it almost as soon as I watched this! I was so scared of damaging my vocal muscles but I’m barely in any pain, I’m still going to get lessons for it but your techniques are so easy to understand! Looks like I’ll be covering some lamb of god eventually 🤘🏼🤘🏼

It is very strictly recommend to hold a balance between pressure and voice while doing false cords, because you probably (and many times probably) will get yourself to just very crackeling voice instead of false cords

Hey so female vocalist here. I have looked up every tutorial on the planet and I’m trying to follow every step that everyone says but I’m still having immense trouble doing a false chord properly without exhausting my voice and getting hoarse. And everyone says I’m doing it wrong if I’m getting that way but I am trying so hard to follow each step. What do you think?
