Saying 2013 without Giannis like everyone expected him to be this good 💀 that's what the draft is about, low risk high reward investments 1 through 60, even if you pick a bust at 1 the real downside is a little headache and pocket money loss compared to other salaries.

The book on Giannis coming into the draft was that he was a raw, high-upside player. People knew that Giannis had great handles for his size, combined with impressive athleticism. They didn't expect him to grow 2 more inches and become jacked, but even at that age he did have outlier traits that suggested he could be a really good player.

Until I see a draft class perform as poorly as the 2000 draft class, I’ll never take what these scouts and analysts say seriously. Because every other class they labeled as weak ended up having a lot of quality players and all stars mixed in. 😅

@sieusaopolo10
@sieusaopolo10 Ай бұрын
Kwame Brown and Anthony Bennett are 2 obvious examples for how the scouts and analysts fail to predict, this 2 players are consider as top prospects and they turned out to be a bust, so yeah we can't never predict a player or a draft class as completely untalented or full of busts. This is why i normally wait about 3 or 4 years after the draft then i will see how bad or how good they will become. There are so many factors that can affect young prospect development, for example, injury or the culture of that team, it's hard to say are good or bad just before the draft, we have to wait to see how they can tranfer their skill set into the NBA

Zach Edey is the true 1st overall pick this year. The numbers he put up are historically great (28.4 pts, 13.7 reb, 2.3 ast per 36 on 62.3% FG) and is similar to that of only players like Shaq, Kareem and Bill Walton, all of which went first overall, won MVPs and are in the HOF. People assume he's unpolished and slow, but he really isn't (outperforming Sarr in the combine lane agility, shuttle run and three quarter sprint, which i know, the combine isn't everything, but it also isn't nothing). He's got great touch, timing, footwork and shooting for his size. He's shooting over 70 % FT on almost 13 attempts per game as a 7'5" center. You can clown on me all you want, but if I'm Atlanta I take that with the 1st overall pick. He's like Yao Ming, doesn't put up fancy highlights, but so consistently good at simple hook shots and layups. Sarr gives me Kwame Brown vibes. People just assume he's a great defender because he kinda looks like he should be. But man, watching him you realize he's actually kinda trash on defence. Very bad rebounder and anticipation, commits a lot on pump fakes and crossovers. Not good at boxing out and using leverege, and therefore gets out rebounded by players that really shouldn't. Of course he has strengths, but he's quite raw. I don't think he's 1st overall material. I would definitely take Edey, Dillingham, Castle, Buzelis, Sheppard, Cody Williams over him any day.
@benmck10
@benmck10 Ай бұрын
He'll be out of the league in 5 seasons. You can quote me on that. His numbers are great, but so were Jimmer Fredette, Tyler Hansbrough, and Adam Morrison (and all those guys played in an Era that suited their games). Edey would have been phenomenal 30 years ago, but those times have changed, and there's a reason that archetype of player barely exists today. He is slow footed and lacks any other skill that isn't dependent on his height. The combine really means nothing, KD couldn't bench 185 once and it's never impacted his game. All you have to do is watch Edey's game to see all the flaws that will be targeted at the next level.

TLDR: As someone who has never cared about college sports, what most people are going through now with this draft class and barely knowing the upcoming draftees, I go through this every single year 😂. I have been watching and been a fan of the NBA for a decade and a half but I have NEVVERRRRRRRRR cared about college/international hoops, I will be honest and admit that I never know who anybody coming into the draft is until a couple of months before the draft. And yes that includes everyone from the draft for the past few classes. I've never heard of Victor Wembanyama in my life until like April of last year when he was popping off in his French league. I've never heard of Paolo Banchero or Cade Cunningham until a month or 2 before their respective drafts either. This happens for me every single year. As the NBA playoffs are coming to a close I randomly start hearing about the projected Top Prospects that can have a chance to be drafted #1. And it's ALWAYS somebody I've never heard of because I don't watch college sports.

With all of that hype last draft with Wemby, it's nice this year's draft is more low key. The players won't have so many expectations to be some franchise changing player. Role players are a great thing. Not every draft needs a generational talent to be seen as serviceable.
@primstar44
@primstar44 Ай бұрын
I don’t understand what formula or procedure people use to judge players. Before the 2023 draft, people made the case for Scoot Henderson to be the #1 pick over Wemby, fast forward to the end of the 23-24 season and Scoot didn’t even make the All-Rookie second team. I am not throwing shade at Scoot, he has the capacity to become an All-Star in the future, but it would be too harsh to predict that he is going to be just a role player just after his first season. I honestly hate the NBA off-season because it is full of grown men who have never played organized basketball at a high level that judge and criticize TEENAGERS that have made the sport of basketball basically their life.

I am from Greece and I admit that I like the fact that Giannis, Jokic and Luka are, in this moment, the three best basketball players ...around this planet. And of course I don't forget Shai G-A, , Wemby and Embiid. Still, as a pure fan of the game , I find at least (very) concerning the fact that young US players are struggling a bit to show up. I mean... there is Edwards and ....Ja Morant who is trying to destroy his career by himself. After LeBron, KD and Carry.....what?? Even Tatum or Jalen Brown, two players I really like, actual champions, do not seem to be considered at the same level of those three ....at least this is what I receive from opinionists, analysts etc.

A year or 2 ago people we're comparing matas buzelis and cooper flagg to each other, in 2024 cooper flagg is getting praises and being called a future star, but nobody's even watching matas' games anymore, it's not like one of them drastically changed their playstyle they still play similarly and i would argue matas plays better defense than cooper from what i've watched. I really think there's atleast one all-star/all-star level player, mainly Risacher,Buzelis,sarr,Reed Sheppard and maybe Mccain, clingan and/or knecht Edit: also Rob dillingham dont know how I forgot abt him

Objectively, what was the worst class ever? In terms WAR, max WS/48, All-stars, All-NBA, etc?

Hatin video. Someone might emerge as All-star, like Haliburton was not expected to be that good.

What every draft tells us is that nobody knows as much as they claim. 2013 was down, but not at 1989 or 2000 levels (Giannis, Gobert, lots of good roleplayers). Wiggins was supposed to be the generational talent out of 2014, which people were right to call a good draft but were wrong on the top tier players. 2020 had Anthony Edwards, Lamelo Ball, Tyrese Haliburton, and Tyrese Maxey, and was supposedly weak leading up to the draft.

For Edey, looks slow sure, but he ain’t slow cause dude DOES have good agility. I’d say he moves like Jokic but more versatile. (watch his perimeter defense sometime. may learn a thing/ also, I know it’s just one or a few days but did we check the combine results?) And college seniors don’t have lower ceilings…. (Duncan, Nash, George Hill, Lillard, the Butler of Marquette, Draymond…) And again, dudes 7’4, 300lbs, last two seasons at Purdue avg +30mins/game (starting 34/34 games 2023 and 39/39 games 2024…) Purdue career avg ~25min… Just saying man research a bit better next time. Google can be a friend, but also an enemy. Gotta connect the dots. Remember this “If you steal from one author it's plagiarism; if you steal from many it's research.” - Wilson Mizner

I can’t wait to see when one of these players takeoff 2 to 3 years from now and people start going, I told you that guy was going to be good😂😂😂 the thing I don’t like about the draft is that basically you can hype up a bum like Ben Simmons and have no accountability basically

Most NBA players right now has their respective weaknesses and there are so many star potential prospects who are bust right now.

I think people are underrating this draft class because there isn't one guy who separates himself from the rest. This isn't a bad class there's just no Victor Wembenyama like last draft class or a Cooper Flag like we'll see next year.

No draft class has no potential guys who can grow in the right environment. Short-sightedness is such a detriment to the way we analyze sports. I’m sure this class will produce at least ONE person who is capable of either changing a franchise or aiding the star on the team.

It seems quite soon to tell it's a weak class despite the lack of all-star potential (I think it was also said the same about 2020 class and we end up with Ant, Lamelo, both Tyrese...) and I disagree with MPJ comparison about Risacher (because of defence mainly) but thanks anyway for the video it's always cool to know your mind ;)
