Hi Andy. I really do like the CB1000R, Honda did a great job blending an ultra modern bike with some subtle classic lines. It looks a fantatstic bike to be out on and i can imagine the buzz it gives 'you' the rider, so its great that these videos show how its possible to throw a few bits of kit at the Honda (and therefore any bike) and make it a perfectly suitable tourer. And when your 'tour' is over its a quick change and back to the nimble roadster. The enjoyment of tour videos includes 'Who', 'Where' and 'What bike'. There are already enough vloggers touring on "Gee ess's" that they run the risk of diluting our interest.
@AndyManCam4 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! I’ve always thought that it’s more about the bike you want to have when you get to the twisties. Rather than the compromise you make on way. I’d rather have a bit of windblast and need to stop more often on the way, and then have that nimble roadster when i get there! Touring so far on this bike has been a pleasure and i see no need to be trading it ‚up‘ to a BMW battleship any time soon!! 😎👍🏻

You’re becoming the Inspector Gadget of Honda touring there Andy. I love the idea of that light weight luggage. When touring on my GS with all three vario panniers & generally my wife, I’ve certainly got a load on board (just in case my wife reads this, no I don’t mean you). The panniers alone weigh about 13 odd kegs! Before filling so your new kit seems a marvellous idea. Enjoy your work matey, & love seeing footage of Germany. Cheers👍🏍🇦🇺

Thanks Russell. I think these weigh 1.4kg per side, so QUITE a saving! I can only recommend them mate. I’ve been really enjoying using them so far. The Blaze bags were good, but these with the clip on/off and lockable abilities are a step up for sure.

I can definitely vouch for fitting handguards. I fitted a pair of cheap generic Chinese specials to my naked bike, along with some Oxford Hotgrips, and they were an absolute godsend during in the winter. In my opinion, the best accessories you can fit to any bike when the temperature drops!
@AndyManCam3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. These guards were an absolute godsend over the winter months!
@soulrebelno13 жыл бұрын
@@AndyManCam You need some heated grips as well. The Oxford grips are very good, they have nine levels, and they get really hot - too hot sometimes - perfect for Teutonic winter! There are also the Daytona heated grips, which have a built-in switch, and are a neater solution, but I don't know how good they are. I'd never be without heated grips and handguards these days!
@AndyManCam3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! If you check out the wider bars for CB1000R video, I actually fitted the Daytona heated grips. I had some problems and they were replaced by the distributor, but I'm still not 100% convinced about their longevity. I've got the Oxford grips on the shelf for when the Daytonas give up the ghost!
@soulrebelno13 жыл бұрын
@@AndyManCam I've had my Oxford heated grips for a while now, and they've been great. They've been excellent over the winter in conjunction with the handguards, very toasty! I did originally wire them directly to the battery, but then I bought a INNOVV Power Hub2 distribution module, and was extremely happy when I noticed that the grips suddenly started to remember their previous state! I now don't have to remember to turn them on the next time I get on the bike, because they remember the last setting. There's some sort of electrickery going on, I think it's because of the ten second start up and shut down delay - back of the net!

Cheers Chris. I half agree on the tankbag thing. I was really sad when I found out that they didn't do a tankring for my bike. But it wasn't enough to not get the bike though! I'm not overly enamoured with the strap tankbag, but I'm actually very pleasantly surprised with the magnetic one. The size is surprisingly useable and the magnets (it uses LOTS of small magnets, rather than a few big ones, so it adheres to the curves of the tank very well) have shown no signs of budging at any point. The cushion is a real godsend on the longer journeys! And cheaper than an Airhawk too!

I have the same side bag racks but I've chosen soft bags. The zip is a very questionable solution on the side case. Not only it can be open in a second using a pen, but also if you drop the bike most probably the zip will be damaged and it may not close anymore. Soft bags for the same system are better i think, but they don't have an inside lock to prevent usage of the quick release mechanism.
@AndyManCam4 жыл бұрын
Horses for courses i suppose. I like the lockable feature and needing a pen to get into my bags is one extra tool than is needed to get into the soft bags! 😜. TBH if i drop the bike, the zip on the panniers would be the last of my worries!

I definetly prefer the old desing of the bigger tank bag with the outer rain cover. Not only you can put any water sensitive stuff in the outer side pockets but also you lose the convinience of using all the pratical internal side pockets and the cover net pocket since none of these are protected...
@AndyManCam3 жыл бұрын
Each to their own i suppose. I much prefer the idea of having things already inside of a waterproof bag. I hate having to stop and put on the rain cover! Plus the waterproof bag method means that the rain cover isn’t taking up any space inside the tankbag. Also anything that needs to be protected from rain in the side pockets, i just also put into plastic bags.

@AndyManCam4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Christopher. Seems to be all good. The wide angle probably distorts the distance between, but there's plenty of clearance. Also the boxes are ABS hard plastic, so a tiny bit more resistant than nylon. That said, I've gone back to the stock can for vibratory reasons, and that has a much shallower angle, so double OK!

The Racks are great. Really happy with them. I have been very pleasantly surprised with this magnet tank bag. It has loads of small magnets, rather than a few big ones. Seems to fit to the tank really well and holds solid. Agreed that the large bag is a bit too big for anything less than a round the world trip! Not sure what the in between Option would be. Maybe check out the Legend gear range?

I prefer Hepco & Becker. Their 22L Orbit cases are better than these SW-Motech one. Zips can fail and they leak anyway. And the bags don't half look flimsy. No, afraid they’re too small for that. An 11 incher is probably about as big as you’ll get in there. (That’s what she said).

Cheers. I'm torn with Tankbags lately. I LOVE having the easy access to all the essentials without having to get off of the bike, but I also hate covering up that beautiful tank. Plus sometimes the tankbag gets in the way of the more spirited, head down riding!

With the straps, it’s a bit faffy. But with the magnets, it’s easier than the tankring ever was. Just move it to the side, stick it back on the tank. Always had to balance the tank Ring one on the seat and it often fell off 🤦🏻♂️

I love that bike. I tried one but being a little over 6ft it was just too cramped. Gutted. S1000r a little more roomy so maybe that one instead. Sigh.

That surprises me! I found the S1000R far more cramped! I guess it’s more to do with how your 6 feet are apportioned!

Don’t let me sway you mate! Gotta go with what works for you! But definitely try both again. For as long as possible! I couldn’t possibly have known from my test ride, but the CB bars are way too narrow. Horrendous wrist pain after a weekend trip! That’ll be the next thing to get swapped!

@AndyManCam3 жыл бұрын
You load your bags on, get on the bike, and tour. Touring isn’t about protection from the elements. It’s about riding somewhere and seeing something. You can get protection from the elements in a car. That’s not why I ride a bike

Is it so hard to believe that the stuff could actually be good? I think you’ll also find that i only really raved about the panniers. The rest was more of a show and tell. I don’t have to use this stuff and trust me, if it didn’t work, i wouldn’t. In fact I’ve already taken the footpegs off and decided that i don’t like using the larger tank bag.
