Thank you! I rescued a Singer 348 that was destined for the dump. It threads the same way as the 338. I was missing a couple of the steps until I saw this video. So helpful.

OMG, Gracie! That is less than a pack of needles. Model 337 is a heavy-duty portable all-metal machine, AND it's a great color too! I like this model so much that I made a 32-video step-by-step restoration Playlist about it. If you find any issues with your beauty once you start using it you may find answers in my playlist. You can find it here: kzbin.info/aero/PLsCOZgzzaiKJxbOOMKQPvmeTRqi0dhGa5 So happy for you to find this model at the best price ever. At $2.50 it's better than getting it free, IMO, b/c exciting to find it. Thanks for sharing and good luck.

No worries, Jenna, I have about 50 more videos for this machine and its little sister the 337. First, though, It may be a good idea to download a copy of the Instruction Manual for Model 338. It is 38 pages of info about the machine and all of its functions, and it is FREE. Here is the link: www.singer.com/sites/default/files/outdated_product/SINGER%20338%20Sewing%20Machine.pdf Here is the link to 20 videos for model 338: kzbin.info/aero/PLsCOZgzzaiKK4y8dsq3oMKJFTGsoNJWmi I also have 30 videos for Model 337 which is basically the same machine, but without changeable fashion discs. Everything else about is the same, and this series is a step-by-step restoration of the machine. You do not need to do that (unless you'd like to) but if you have a problem, need and adjustment, need to know how to oil it, or maybe replace a worn motor belt, then this series will show you how to do it. kzbin.info/aero/PLsCOZgzzaiKJxbOOMKQPvmeTRqi0dhGa5 Model 338 is the machine my daughter asked me to restore and she is very happy with its versatility and strength. I hope you will enjoy yours as much, and thanks for watching my channel. OH!, and welcome to AndyTube.

I inherited either the 338 or 337 from my Grandmother, it works GREAT, was told by a repairman that it's all metal & not to get rid of it because today's are all plastic junk & fall apart! I now have it in storage, so I'm not sure which model it is, they're that similar. Do you know if the Bobbin is a Class 66, supposedly the 337 takes a Class 66 Bobbin? I downloaded both the 337/338 Manuals from the Singer site but they don't seem to mention bobbin #'s. TY in advance!!
@andytubesewing1953
@andytubesewing1953 2 жыл бұрын
Both models are wonderful machines. Model 338 has a flip-up "door" in the middle of the arm cover for changing the ZigZag pattern disc of which there are about 30. Model 337 has standard ZIgZag only without the door on the arm cover. They both take Class 66 bobbins, part#172336. I prefer the ones actually made by SInger over the generic ones. I have bought these for many years now; www.ebay.com/p/664504770 You can also find them at stores like JOANN's; www.joann.com/singer-plastic-class-66-bobbins-3-pk/2725018.html Class 66 Bobbins also come in a metal version. It's your choice. I prefer the plastic as they won't wear down the bobbin case over time. Happy sewing, Joker, and thanks for watching my channel.

I'm not sure why either. I've never had that happen. For me, I'd just double-check the threading paths, especially the in-and-out of the pigtail. If it is sewing well, especially during wide zigzag then I guess you're OK.

Why doesn't the top thread grab the bobbin thread on my Singer 338 machine when I lower the threaded needle?
@andytubesewing1953
@andytubesewing1953 4 жыл бұрын
I think it does not like you, Mary. OK, enough with the jokes! It may be something as simple as the needle is in the holder facing the wrong way, the needle is not inserted all the way up in the holder, the needle is threaded in the wrong direction or the needle is bent. That's just the needle possibilities. Another reason is that the timing of the needlepoint to the hook point is off. That does not happen too often with this model b/c it does not use a timing belt, but it can happen. Maybe the needle bar got pushed up a tiny bit from a jam or needle strike on the case and that makes the thread loop too high for the hook to grab on the way by. Maybe you inserted the bobbin into the bobbin case backward and the hook grabs it for a second but can't pull it off the bobbin. It is really the hook that grabs the needle thread and wraps it around the bobbin thread and makes a lock-stitch. You can try to pull up the bobbin thread by holding the needle thread and have the slide plate open and watch what happens. Is the machine new to you? I have 19 more videos of this model: kzbin.info/aero/PLsCOZgzzaiKK4y8dsq3oMKJFTGsoNJWmi You can download a free manual from Singer at this link: www.singer.com/search/support?title=338

When I worked on this model theplug for the cord on the side of the machine kept slipping partially out. I'd move the machine on the bench and then the light would go out. Tapping the plug with the heel of my hand was all it took. I checked the prongs and wiring inside and all was well. I think the hole in the plug, which have brass tubes inside, were jsut stretch out a little. If you want to get into the machine I have 32 videos for the sister model 337 which has the same parts and the playlist is about taking the machine apart and cleaning adjusting etc. It will show you the plug, wiwirning and motoer, etc. kzbin.info/aero/PLsCOZgzzaiKJxbOOMKQPvmeTRqi0dhGa5

@andytubesewing1953 7 ай бұрын
 @BeachLover-kn5ov you should never have to push a bobbin down like that. Singer would not have designed the machine that way. It sounds to me like you have a class 15 bobbin a class 15 bobbin has flat sides and is taller. What you want is a class 66 bobbin. It has curved sides like a teacup saucer and it's not as tall. It's made that way, so the thread can slide over the top of the bobbin case and bobbin. If you're using a class 15, it's probably catching the thread when it tries to slide over. This is a common thing when people pick up a used machine. You can Google class 66 bobbins your machine came from the factory with plastic class 66 bobbins. Many prefer the older metal class 66 bobbins which are okay to use also.

I'm sorry Nila, but I still have to give you the same answer as I did on your other comment. I do not have any records for your model, and neither do the 3 people who share records with me. None of us have any information on a model 615u. Without records, we can not find a part number. Without a part number, we can't advise you on your plates, or plates of other models that may fit your machine. We wish we could help you with that. From looking at pictures on this Blogspot it looks like the 615u is very similar to the 600 series Touch and Sew models >> sewing-machines.blogspot.com/2014/09/singer-615u.html If that looks like your machine then there are many sellers of Touch & Sew parts. Here is an example of a parts seller who has model 625 parts. www.sewingpartsonline.com/singer-625-sewing-machine-parts.aspx?sort.ss_cat_sort=desc&index=1 The problem is we don't know if parts for these T & S machine will fit your machine. We do not have the part numbers of your machine to compare to the parts of these type T & S Machines. Here is a customer service number in the USA for The Singer Company >> 1-800-474-6437 and here is a list of authorized Singer Sales & Service place in or near Edmonton >> www.google.com/search?ei=MDHFXMXNJ8Sc-gTRtKeADA&q=singer+sewing+company+in+edmonton&oq=singer+sewing+company+in+edmonton&gs_l=psy-ab.3...12219.15594..15962...0.0..0.93.1292.15......0....1..gws-wiz.......0i71j0i7i30j0i8i13i30j33i10.v48kwey1TE8 I live in Arizona, USA. You asking me about where to buy parts in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada would be like me asking someone in Manila where to buy stuff in Zamboanga. IMO, if parts for the 615u are so hard to find, I would buy a Singer 403A or similar vintage metal machine and ship it home to replace the 615u. Just saying.

I've been thinking about that 615u number. I only found one picture of a supposed 615u and it looked like a Touch & Sew Model. Is that number on the machine, or the foot pedal? Here are Singers suggestions of where to look for model numbers >> www.singer.com/find-your-model Places I've been in the Phils ** Subic Bay, Manila, Quezon City, Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, Ozamiz, Oroquieta, Dipolog. @andytubesewing1953
@andytubesewing1953 3 жыл бұрын
Congrats on your "new" machine! What a bargain. No one makes parts like this any longer, so we have to find someone selling parts off of a machine. This thread guide is on SInger models 327K, 337, 338, 347, & 348. I look for the parts on eBay by searching for the model numbers. It's really hit or miss, on the thread guide you may have to buy the whole arm cover. FYI, the thread guide is two parts, the top piece you see is 179644 and the underpart is 179645. There are some great part sellers I have worked with and if I see them selling other parts from the model I will contact them to ask if they have the arm cover or thread guide. If they do they will list it as they know there is a buyer. Say the arm cover plastic was cracked and broken, but the thread guide is OK. They may not list it as who will buy that? If they know you will and they have the part they will list it and notify you. Here I a trusted (by me) seller I have done this with and also bought parts from and they have other parts of the 338 arm cover listed. You may ask if they have the thread guide and maybe you'll get lucky! 🙏 www.ebay.com/str/remliquidators1?_bkw=singer+338 BTW, if you need the Instruction Manual for your 338 you can download free from Singer at this link: www.singer.com/search/support?title=338 Thanks for watching my channel, and good luck.

Hi Andy, I have threaded my machine exactly how you have. When I sew for some reason the thread keeps coming out of the needle. Any suggestions? Thank you
@andytubesewing1953
@andytubesewing1953 4 жыл бұрын
That's very odd. 👀As the needle goes down, the take-up lever follows it down and lets the thread get slack so the hook can catch it and wrap it around the bobbin thread, then the take-up lever pulls the thread up to remove the slack. It sounds like your take up lever is pulling on the thread at the wrong time and before the hook catches it the take-up pulls the thread back out of the needle. Honestly, it sounds like the needle thread is ran from the spool to the needle incorrectly. The thread does not break, right, but just pulls back out of the needle? If the thread is run Ok then the timing of the take-up lever to the needle is off and that is very, very rare. An assembly mistake concerning the parts. If you ever make a video of threading and sewing let me know and I'll take a look at it. This is a video about the stroke & tension of the take-up spring (not lever)or check spring, but it shows some of the theory I explained above. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooCvfKOspNOhhqc My Grandma would tell you to pull all the thread out and redo it, but what did she know after sewing for 60 years? Good Luck Danielle.

Hi Andy, thanks for your video. Because of it I identified an incorrect step in my threading on this machine. I have a question though, do you know of any places (internet forums etc) where I could talk to people about setting up this machine? I have a problem where threads keep breaking or getting pulled out of the fabric and I'm almost sure there is a tension issue. If I run the thread through the tension wheels and drop the foot it feels difficult to pull through even on the lowest setting (0). I'm not shy about adjusting things I just need to know how to approach it without making a big mess of it as I've never worked on a sewing machine before.

I don't do internet forums but know they have vintage sewing groups on Facebook, Yahoo, etc. I do have 50+ videos about working on models337/338. Model 337 is the standard Zigzag version and 338 has the insertable pattern disc capability. Here is my playlist for working on the 337: kzbin.info/aero/PLsCOZgzzaiKJxbOOMKQPvmeTRqi0dhGa5 Within that playlist are two videos about the tension unit. Removing it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJDcoHiGqcpjb6s and replacing and adjusting it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKLEpnyFjNhseas The videos are tutorials about the tension. You may have a broken crossbar on the indicator or it may just be very dirty inside. The 337 playlist is a tutorial for a complete restoration on the machine. I later did a shorter playlist about model 338 which has a couple items the 337 does not. That playlist is here: kzbin.info/aero/PLsCOZgzzaiKK4y8dsq3oMKJFTGsoNJWmi I think within these 50 videos you will find some answers. Thanks for watching my channel and good luck.
