With a lackluster men's Final Four, Caitlin Clark captured America's imagination because she's the closest thing we've seen (in either the men's or women's game) to Steph Curry -- who, as we all know, is Black. Meanwhile Angel Reese is a fine player -- but she's an Athletic Frontcourt Big. In other words, there are dozens of players with similar games in the WNBA, and hundreds like her -- albeit, not as good as her -- in women's college basketball. We've seen Angel Reese before; however, like Steph Curry before her -- we've never seen anything like Caitlin Clark. What I thought was off-putting about Reese, is her taunting didn't appear spontaneous or to stem from love of the game; it appeared to be planned. She said as much after the game, that she wanted to "clap back" at Clark -- for something she did during the Louisville game. So it wasn't a natural emotional response; rather, she chased Caitlin Clark around the court, almost in desperation at times -- in order to take her shots. We'd have to go back and look at the tape, but I bet Reese was mad at Clark for trash talking a Black player on Louisville. Does anyone, in their honest heart-of-hearts, believe that Angel would have made such a point of taunting Clark, and put so much time, thought, and energy into it...if Clark had trash talked a White player on Louisville's squad? I obviously can't say for sure, but I doubt it. So then now who's choosing her reactions and behaviors, based upon race? I think that would be Angel Reese. And I suspect that she's bitter, resentful, and jealous of Caitlin Clark. But as I said, I think all the attention paid to Clark isn't because she's a White player --- it is BECAUSE, not to put too fine a point on it, she plays the game like a Black Man who happens to be a modern day sporting hero to millions of us...i.e., Steph Curry. My only point, is that I suspect most peoples' parents and grandparents -- like mine -- taught them to be "a good loser," as well as a "good winner." And while I understand that Reese may have felt left out of the spotlight while her team was on their championship run, when the "Bayou Barbie" thing didn't gain any traction outside of Louisiana -- I don't believe it was because of her race. It seems to me, for example, that Michael Jordan -- who is Black -- gets his fair share of reverence from fans and media alike, as a player. And people seem pretty excited about Victor Wembenyama coming into the league -- and he's also Black. And last -- but certainly not least -- when it comes to racism, I offer people who loved how Angel Reese comported herself that night, this fact: on my favorite podcast, "The Right Time With Bomani Jones," Mr. Jones -- who is Black, for those of you who don't follow him -- called out Angel Reese, for acting "like a jerk" that night. I won't ask you to take my word for it; I'll paste the link in below, and you can listen and check my facts for yourself. He said it on the 4/3/2023 episode. Mr. Jones didn't have much nice to say about Angel Reese's behavior, as the game was winding down. So what I would ask you then, is this: Are you gonna start calling Bomani Jones a racist now? He said the word "jerk" multiple times, in reference to Ms. Reese. And if you're at all familiar with Mr. Jones' tremendous body of work, then you know he's the first one to jump in and correctly identify something as racist -- whether it's in sports, or society at large. I guess the only other thing to say, is that Caitlin Clark -- again, if you've bothered to pay attention -- has NOT been using her White Privilege to "clap back" at Angel Reese. In fact, she's done the exact opposite. She's been doing media to say there's nothing wrong with what Angel Reese did (a notion Mr. Jones and I disagree with), and that people should let it go. So Caitlin Clark appears to be showing class, in a situation in which she was not afforded the same courtesy. Here's the link to "The Right TIme With Bomani Jones." Rate and review him, and give him 5 stars. And remember -- if you only give him 4 stars, then he'll be inclined to believe that you're a hater 🙂: www.espn.com/espnradio/podcast/archive/_/id/12563086

The best team definitely won! The officiating was still atrocious. The criticism is somewhat fair, but the overall criticism of black athletes in the media is not.
