The good times of the 20’s ended in a big crash in 1929 when the stock market fell, plunging the nation into The Great Depression. Jobs were scarce and people used and reused whatever they had to get by. Garments became more fitted and less embellished. Simple sleek lines, bias cut dresses and up-cycled hand-me-downs were the fashion hallmarks. Sewing expert Angela Wolf shares some evening fashions from this era where a night out at the movies, was the favorite means of entertainment. All on Its sew Easy. The halter gown reminds me of Marilyn Monroe’s iconic style. She used draping brilliantly. Maybe her designers were inspired by the 30’s too. I think Vera Wang has also used the dress form draping method to create her designs. Translating that into daywear pieces is pretty exciting. Thank you.
