I absolutely love this dress! It looks so lovely on you. I wish it was much simpler to make as just beginning to sew again. I'd really like to wear 50s inspired dresses of my youth. Ironic that I like this style in my late 60s as my waist left me 10+ years ago. Thank you for sharing.

I've found that making my own clothes has actually helped me to be more at peace with my body. Having clothes that fit well is really good for how I view myself, and sewing also helps my mental health.

@@maudline exactly! It reminds me of something Zack Pinsent said once on Instagram, talking about custom clothing. "There is no such thing as sizes, only you-sized". That's helped me ignore the labels on sizes and only worry about fit.

I just enjoy watching you sew, though your historical garments are what I originally subscribed for. I’m particularly loving your self drafted patterns like this one. I completely understand about not loving your body, as mine is a source of negative feelings. Those feelings have lead me to learning to sew so I can create comfortable clothes I actually WANT to wear. Thank you so much for all your hard work and for your wonderful talent. Love, light and blessings to you and yours.

She inspired me so much! Sometimes being that person to inspire others is worth being a little uncomfortable at first. i try to remind myself often of a quote my therapist told me. angela, please, do not feel bad about your body. 1. you are maturing. your body will naturally become more curvy. when i was 19, i weighed 130/135 lbs. i was 5'6" at the time. i thought i was fat because i couldn't wear my friends clothes. (in retrospect, i now understand the concept of being petite and smaller. while i have short bones - my length being in my torso- they are large in diameter. also, i had a much larger bust than they did). with my first pregnancy, i gained 50 lbs. i had no idea how to dress it and hid behind ill fitting clothes. in my late 40s, i learned to accept my body and to wear clothes that actually fit me - not too small. i finally found some joy in clothes shopping and putting my best foot forward. don't waste years of your young adult life disliking your body. there are always things we will hate about it and that we have to learn to dress to make the bad things regress and the good stand out. accept your body (and you are beautiful by the way. lovely shape). wear what you want to wear and make what you want to make, just make it a little more generous. by the way,... the weight gain for me did not end with the first pregnancy. by the time it was all done and said, i got up to 340 at one point. i do not accept this weight and i have worked on getting it down. but i refuse to hide behind tents until i get down to a healthy weight. and i get complimented regularly on my style.

Beautiful dress! You have a fantastic eye. Very clever. My only other thought was that your body needs to be clothed whether you're happy with it or not. Why not use it to demonstrate that you can fit "problem" areas with success? That is a skill many of those "Runway" designers lack!

Just listening to your commentary teaches me about sewing.

You and your amazing creation are beautiful. I know you said you didn't quite like how broad you made the shoulders but in my opinion it really accentuated that gorgeous flit and flare skirt. I love that silhouette type and wish I could understand pattern drafting well enough to create that pattern for my body type. I completely understand the feeling of not quite liking our bodies. Those moments get me sometimes too. You have an amazing skill that lets you tailor what you wear to suit your style and preferences so keep flaunting all your amazing creations. Just remember it's you that makes the garment look great, not the other way around.
