It is so hurtful to see someone do this, my condition was caught at a stage where it can be managed and I can live a normal life. It was hard to hear my diagnosis. @@grasstastesbad I was going to comment about that, too. When I was watching her talking, I didn’t sense any gravitas. When I was diagnosed with Stage III Esophageal Cancer in 2018 (became Stage IV in 2019), I didn’t cry in the doctor’s office, because I knew he was going to give me bad news. However, when I went to work the next day and I was telling my co-workers about my diagnosis, all the emotions came out and I was shaking and teary-eyed. It’s not the same thing as telling someone what you ate for lunch. I don’t know how she got away with her lies for so long.

When I was in high school one of my closest friends had a really rare bone cancer. Another girl who I was vaguely friends with came into school one day with super cute blushed cheeks, so I complimented her, and she replied ‘oh, thank you, but it’s from my medication since I’ve got cancer.’ of course I said i was sorry she had cancer but moved on with my day. If it ended here it would have been great, but the mum of the first friend ran into the parents of the other girl and gave her condolences for their daughter having cancer, since she knew how hard it was to go through that. They were basically like ‘what?? she has heart arrhythmia, not cancer.’ so she had lied to her friends about having cancer cause she thought it would get her more sympathy that heart arrhythmia…

In school when I was like 17, a friend in our group pretended to have a brain tumour/cancer and basically said she had a few months to live and told us not to tell anyone. Obviously we told our parents because we were all upset that our friend was going to die. Basically long story short she went on with the story for a good few months. Then after half term we saw her drinking at a party and we were obviously concerned because she told us she couldn’t due to the cancer. When we asked her about it she said “oh I had brain surgery during the week of half term and I’m cured now” with her full head of hair intact. Obviously we all cut ties with her and she still alive and well today, was crazy!

I went to sixth form with a girl who told all of my friends that she had cancer but "don't tell anyone" as apparently even her own parents didn't know. (She was 17 and living with them, there's no way they wouldn't have been told!) I only found out after this had been going on for months, she was apparently going into London for chemo appointments, and it was so obviously a lie. But of course her friends didn't want to confront her incase it was true. But like the person you know, she said she'd had surgery and was totally fine now!!! Absolute rubbish, it made me so angry back then and still makes me angry now. She never admitted to it or apologised.

Same thing happened to me at 13! She faked cancer and only came clean when we started questionning her because her story made no sense. Then to get out of it, she tried to convince us that her uncle had gotten into a car crash, and that he wouldn't survive so she would get his liver and that would somehow cure her completely. We finally called her out and school officials got involved. She got a tattoo of a heart with wings and a little banner saying "sorry" not long after 🙄

Her not losing her hair would have been the biggest red flag for me. I didn’t have cancer but was hospitalized with a bad infection and went septic. I had 9 surgeries total and spent 3 months in the hospital, this included 10 days intubation in the ICU. Exactly at the 3 month mark my hair started falling out by the handful. Nothing was going to stop it, and in total I lost about 3/4 of my hair. When you go through something that puts a lot of stress on your body, especially when you are taking certain medications like chemo or in my case the anesthesia drugs used for my surgeries. There is nothing you can do to stop the hair loss it just happens so right there that should have been a major red flag. I had to cut what hair was left from the small of my back to being 1 inch long because I looked like a chemo patient and even then it was so thin i had to wear caps until my hair started to grow back. 3 years later my hair is still no where as thick as it use to be.

Luckily, I am now cancer free, but this video had me fuming. I hope she never experiences cancer for real, but knowing that up to 50% of the population will, she is doomed to come across it sometime in her life. The way she is proud of her GPA despite having cancer also rubs me the wrong way as I had to quit my studies and haven't had the energy to pick them back up, even if it's been almost 3 years since my point of diagnosis. I have lost 2 loved ones very suddenly to pancreatic cancer since 2020, so the fact that she weaponised that cancer for her personal agenda hurts all the more. There are very real issues in cancer research and awareness both in more general terms, but also within the cancer whereby certain cancers receive far more attention and funding than others despite having far higher survival rates, but now it feels like that message is tainted and that makes me sad. It truly is a horrible, quick and violent disease and my thoughts are with anyone who is actually dealing with it currently.

I couldn’t imagine what that family member would’ve thought if she were alive and came across some disrespectful girl lying about having the very thing destroying her life and stealing her from her kids and husband. This isn’t just infuriating it’s wrong on so many levels.

I lost a childhood friend of mine to cancer a month after she turned twenty. She was fighting for years, but was informed that it had spread-stomach to head to chest. I can’t wrap my head around lying about having an illness to begin with, let alone something as serious as cancer. Vile. I will never be able to forget how absolutely broken her parents were at her funeral. Her mother especially, losing all her strength-howling on the floor-having to be held up when lighting a candle… and later turned around and stood with her back facing the coffin getting lowered into the ground, silently crying. It’s heartbreaking. Then there’s this… it’s unfathomable that anyone can lie about it with a smile plastered on their face revealing zero guilt. Despicable.

I was diagnosed at 17 with Fibromyalgia and recently found at I am high risk for Breast, Thyroid, and Colon Cancer after having surgery to remove a thankfully benign tumor in my femur. Seeing this girl lying about having cancer and trying to get sympathy and peoples money hurts my heart. Personally I never wanted sympathy for an illness I have, I hate being pitied. I am a fighter and no matter how much pain I’m in, I rather work my hardest to show strength when I am still struggling. One of my proudest moments was being able to do a weekend hiking event at my university only 2 months after surgery in the snow and struggling to walk. That being said. This girl lying for “clout” is essentially making it hard for people to believe people like me who have invisible illnesses.

Secondly, pretending biotin(?!?) of all things is going to stop people losing their hair?? Losing your hair due to treatment is already hard enough without someone giving you hope a little supplement is going to help. I'm not in the medical field but the only thing I've ever seen work to prevent hair loss during chemo is wearing a type of ice/cold cap on your head... At least lie properly if you're going to lie...

I usually am just a lurker but I recently got diagnosed with a rare genetic disease Alpha-1, as well as CFS from complications of having my liver start malfunctioning. I am 22 years old and was extremely active, never drank or smoke and ate healthy. My body no longer feels like my own and I am legally considered disabled. The clip in the beginning is so hard to watch because it's so accurate to how it feels to be sick when you don't obviously appear it, or have to fight through each day. I also am trying to finish out my college semester with a 3.8... it's just too similar to how I'm feeling and the fact that it is all fake is just so saddening. I don't know how to interact with people my own age because it's so hard to find others who understand or relate, so hearing from someone who seems to get it, but be lying about it, man that hits home to a dark place :( My heart goes out to all my fellow autoimmune folk, especially those who are dealing with it so young. ❤

When my husband was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma last year they made us pay for everything up front even if we didn’t owe because our max out of pocket was $7500. We spent 10-12K(they sent the overcharged money back after 8 months)in one month because they threatened to not do testing if we didn’t pay what they thought we would owe. My family helped us out but there were people crying in the oncologist’s office about how they were going bankrupt. I find it extra disgusting that she conned people out of money and now they might not be willing to help someone that actually has cancer. March 15th we get to see if my husband is still in remission and due to some symptoms we are really scared this year will be a repeat of last year. My husband was diagnosed at 44 which is rare for Hodgkin’s lymphoma and we had our kids pretty young so we will have our youngest going to Georgia tech this year. Our eldest is doing online college because of her immune system issues.

My husband had stage 4 colon cancer (did chemo) and my father had skin cancer AND lymphocytic leukemia (got chemo and radiation). Neither lost their hair. My husband kept working and unless he told you or you lived in our home, you would have never known he was going through chemo and dying.
