Allow me to correct you about Celine Dion. She is not an English singer. She is a French Canadian singer and her first language is French.

For you who are in fact québécois, are you comfortable with how Céline pronounces the words "coeur" and "bonheur" in this clip? I find it way too americanized, and not how you would actually say/sing the words in Québec.
@claudest-gelais8456 Жыл бұрын
@@mattiassjostrand5018 It's a little bit in between "coeur" and "cair", "bonheur" and "bonair". If you understand french, you'll know what I mean. But you're right, she's leaning towards "...air" instead of "...eur". That's not the way most of us pronounce them. The English (British) equivalent would be a word like "water". The North Americans would pronounce it as "Victor". But neither pronunciation is wrong, just different. I hope it answers your question😉

@@louisegogel7973 My favorite is still Louis. When l listen to him l cry. I love jazz. But more than that, l love Louis Armstrong...for one he single handedly changed the entire world's perception of Music, and he had a huge heart, with a God given desire to bring JOY...sound familiar. When Angelina won NGT, Mery was in the audience screaming,holding up two big signs, with who's picture on it? Also do yourself a solid, and watch him sing " Dinah".

@@MICHAELASHER. I love Louis Armstrong. He will forever be precious, beloved, and so very respected in my books. I love the way he sang and spoke. He was such a great one! Have you a reference of his saying Diana? Edith and Celine are up there with him! Angelina is different for me from all others. I can only explain it in that I be.i eve she has an open connection to Source, what I call Divine Love, and that touches me when I listen to her, think of her desire in this life, and see her way of walking through life. Each has contributed to the beauty of this world. May we each respond in kind with compassion and adding bits of beauty in small ways wherever we go in our lives.

Madonna did a pretty decent job of this song! It surprises me--not sure why. I am particularly fond of this song as it was prominent in my 2004 Spring wedding. The chanteuse and her French cabaret band lifted our celebration into a poignant affair wrapped in a bubble that kept out negativity. Angelina Jordan's version---her emotional quality comes close to that. I like the other versions that come closest to the Edith Piaf French version, and I strongly assert the song belongs to female voice, though Louis Armstrong captured Edith Piaf soul in his rendition. Alan, this is another wonderful contrast and compare session! Thank you for showing a bit of its history and a few of the many covers of this song. I would love to hear Angelina Jordan sing this now in her 17 year old voice, performance/studio level. It would be so rich! Merci beaucoup! Kudos to you! Grandma Ellen and bonjour.

Yes, I agree with you and, moreover, Lady Gaga's rendition is no where near that of Madona's in terms of sounding "French"; may she recover completely and swiftly from her illness...

Here's the story, at least from my perspective :) Every performance I listened to leading up to Angelina's version had something 'wrong' about it. Without going into detail they distracted me from the beautiful message of the song. Only when I heard Angelina sing it did I feel she was singing from her heart and the message of the song was coming through loud and clear. Her interpretive skills at 10 years old are to be fully appreciated because what we listen to is music coming from her soul in the sound of pure love. Amazing doesn't even come close to describing how she can convey her emotions to us through song. Unlike many artists she doesn't 'try' to create the emotional connection to her audience. She doesn't have to because it's on auto-pilot and as she sings us the story of the song her words reflect love and our hearts cannot resist.

There is no way Angelina fills the fullness of what Edith Piaf had. Listen to Edith, we can't hear her breath, she is not " thinking" as she sings. Angelina is very young and simply does not have the mature lungs to have a constancy in her breath that Edith Piaf had. I can say this and still look at Angelina has being really cool, as she shows human capacity. At the end of the day, it has nothing to do with the so-called " talent" belief, she has practiced and developed - probably with the support of parents who understand how it all works. If more of us realized this, what Angelina is doing would be a norm, as it should be. These children show us more of what we can do. As Christ said, you can do what do and more. It is all about focus and structure, and that given without force or punishment. That is the key. Look at Edith Piaf, she had a parent that gave her a skill. One that would support her in life.
@RobertDeMartin Жыл бұрын
@@RebDalmas Reb, I understand completely where you are coming from and I respect everything you said. This format wasn't fair to any of the artists because, even if it wasn't the intent, comparing them was an end result. Where we differ, Reb, is in your explanation of what Angelina "is all about". Comparing Edith and Angelina in any way should not be on the table. Edith had and Angelina has a great affect on people who have listened to them and have also found out how wonderful they are as a human being. Edith, of course, lived in a very challenging time in our lives and her voice gave anyone listening a feeling of peace, love and more than anything else, hope. 'It's because of who she was'. In today's world, Angelina gives anyone who listens to her joy, happiness, hope and above all, love in her voice, 'It's because of who she is'. The sound of love in their voices is something which is not manufactured or taught in school. The love comes from the soulfulness within them. Our hearts feel their love. Our heads try to make sense of everything but we struggle because we are feeling the emotion of one person touching another and employing logic is just a waste of time. Reb, we understand the sound of the recordings available of Edith are poor compared to today's standards. People interested in Edith must read about her and then they can better interpret the way she sings. Angelina, if you allow her to touch your heart is a wonderful experience. Of course she is well schooled and is very dedicated to what she is doing. But, there is no denying, when she sings she identifies the love in the message of a song and she can relate to it even if the subject matter doesn't seem appropriate for her to sing at such a young age. She is all about love and we can feel that love. Questions? People have their own varying opinions of 'what is going on', BUT, one thing we all agree on, she is very special as both a performer and human being and to have discovered her is a moment in our lives we will never forget.

To me they are all different and each rendition has it's own charme. I wonder how it will sound when Angelina take this song on again because I am pretty sure her voice will fit better to the song now due to her age. By the way: keep also an eye on Lucy Thomas from your home country: She is not to compare with Angelina (that would be unfair to both Angelina and Lucy) but.... she is is very, very good as well in conveying the emotion of songs to her audience. Worth to watch. I do follow her as well and with as much joy as I follow Angelina.

There is a jazz version by French singer “zaz” who is a fan of Piaf of course and sings many of her songs. I remember hearing a really good rendition by an American singer who lives in Europe called Rhiannon Giddens too.
