Why havent I seen this? - you ask. Ive been pondering this myself, and my theory is this.. She has atleast 150 performances that are in some fans top 10 list. Thats how good she is. So you could ask 15 fans for a top 10 list, and never be suggested the same song twice. I have so much trouble suggesting her to people I know, because I know that if I just find the right one, out of 150 (or something like that) I am certain Angelina will have a new fan. I always come back to that my favorite from her is usually the last one I listened to 💖

Hey Zack. The version of this utterly beautiful song that I'm most familiar with is Neil Diamond's; he is a phenomenal singer, but there is a chasm of difference between his version and Angelina's. This song has two parts: on the one hand, there is the profoundly sad, heartwrenching part describing the storyteller's reaction to a loved one leaving. This is juxtaposed with the happier part that relates the great difference in the singer's feelings if the loved one should stay, and even that part is laced with the tragic acceptance that the person would leave anyway. Neil Diamond, although generally quite expressive, still did not make you feel those differences that clearly. Angelina makes you feel, down to your soul, those contrasting sets of emotions, so poignantly that you feel as if it is actually happening to her right in this moment, and even as if it is happening to you.

The background of this song is, she is pleading with her lover not to abandon her because she is pregnant with his child. She is 11!!! You should check out the original recording on Grandma Mery's channel. When Rusty made this video, he cut out several seconds in the beginning, where she rolls her eyes as if to say "here goes nothing," then she goes into her singing trance. He also cut out the happy little girl waving "bye" at the end while laughing. Although that is usually adorable, it just wasn't right for this emotional song. He added the "Painting effect" & balanced the sound by increasing the volume of the soft parts & decreasing the volume of the loud parts. I really love this, the emotion this girl exudes is phenomenal.

I firmly believe we will see her in movies, even soonish. She was young enough here that she was not restraining herself. You can see changes as she entered her teen years and became self conscious. She re-emerges at 18, letting it all go vocally with Bad Valentine Piano Diaries. She had two years to process the pain she didn’t sing about in the 16 yo pop version. Toby brought it out of her in the jazz version. Can’t wait to see her on the big screen.

Not sure any of those people mentioned ever covered this. It's on one of my wife's Rod McKuen albums...only place I ever heard it. As I recall this a French song whose author shared it with McKuen. Rod, by the way, was not much of a singer. He used his gruff, deep voice to speak/sing his music that all had this melancholy feel.
