Terrific film. Who'd have thought a 77 year old movie would be so gripping? No CGI. No smut. Just good, old-fashioned plot!

Cagney deserved the best actor Oscar that year, I think he was the favorite, but as he was portraying a gangster, the best actor award finally went to Spencer Tracy who portrayed a priest in Boys Town.

The scene with Rocky cornered in the building surrounded by the police was taken from a real-life event. The bad guy was Francis "Two-Gun" Crowley. Only that scene, not the whole story.

These old movies are treasures. Too bad so many young people just turn their noses up and refuse to watch them because of the black and white film or no 3D effects. Those young ones are missing a glimpse into 1920's and 30's life, some spectacular actors and actresses and their best performances.

@EedTehWeed9 жыл бұрын
Not sure if it's come a "long way" assuming you mean they were inferior? The Method performers of instinctual realism such as Marlon Brando hadn't made their mark yet until the 40's which some believe was a saving grace for Theater as well as film acting. This here is a more traditional style but it took training. Also there are WAY more actors working in cinema today than there were 70 years ago. But how many can act convincingly and possess strong screen presence? Not many. I think many young actors are chosen merely on the grounds of looks, and haven't even taken an acting class. They may posses good looks and a natural charisma, but can they stay in character throughout long takes? Most of the unforgettable performances we see these says is due to great scripts in the hands of talented directors and skilled editing.
@MrWolfSnack4 жыл бұрын
The movie industry has totally fucked itself over since you made that comment 5 years ago. They do not even hire actors that are good actors anymore. They hire low rent and c and b rate actors into a blockbuster movie and very expensive films just so they can claim they were "culturally diverse" in the casting. So they hire an indian, a black person, a spanish person, and shoehorn them all in there. Ghostbusters remake that had the entirely woman cast was done entirely for SJW pandering - none of the actors could act worth a damn - and it failed hard. It was supposed to be a blockbuster.

A Great Classic! Cagney at his best! But I would like to see a remake of this movie in the near future. I could see either Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeremy Renner, or Russell Crowe playing Cagney's role and Christian Bale, Tom Hanks, or Matt Damon playing O'Brien's role. I think with the right director and screenwriters, this could not only become a box-office hit or a critically-acclaimed remake but an Oscar-Worthy masterpiece!

EN ESTA PELÍCULA TODOS BRILLAN.PERO LA ESCENA DE CAGNEY CUANDO SE DIRIGE AL PATIBULO JUNTO A PAT O'BRIEN💺 ES DE LAS MAS SOBRECOGEDORAS QUE HE VISTO.UN TIPO MUY DURO QUE ACABA DESMORONÁNDOSE. Also, If this film were to be remade, I think Martin Scorsese, Brian De Palma, Frank Darabont, or Francis Ford Coppola should direct it. If made correctly, the remake could fall in line with the small handful of remakes that surpass the original such as The Fugitive, The Departed, The Dark Knight, Scarface, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Ben-Hur, and etc.
