Today I show you how I manage to live out of my tiny car day after day while I spend my time crossing off items on my bucket list. This lifestyle change has allowed me to travel the country affordably at this stage in my life. While it is not always ideal, I do have all the essentials I need to survive day to day and am grateful that my car is still chugging along! I try to stay in the mindset of gratitude for what I do have rather than focusing on what I do not have. If you have any tips for tiny home living, please share. I am new to this lifestyle and could use the help. Thank you all for watching!
SCAMMER ALERT! Please be aware there are scammers impersonating my profile asking for money in the comment section! This is NOT me, so please be careful, hold on to your money, and be sure to report the scammers! Thank you!

I did this for a while (about a year) to save money. moved into my midsized truck. Used a gym membership to take showers. It was a little easier for me, being a guy. I'm concerned about your safety. Had fended off a couple of "animals" trying to break into my truck a few times with a ah'em.. protective device. Thank God I never had to actually see if it worked. could tell a few more stories. Once transitioning back to a normal living situation, had a hard time sleeping at first. was so used to the truck. The other thing to deal with was laundry and keeping my living situation private from my employer. was afraid it would not look good professionally. I know this post is a little older now. Hope you are doing well and staying safe. God bless you ❤

Wow. I was homeless in high school and into my 20s. I often slept underneath the weatherproof tarps that covered the track and field equipment. Otherwise, I would be sleeping in my 2001 ford escort. Im 6’3’’ so i ended up sleeping vertically as well. I remember my classmates making fun of me as they started pulling into school in the morning and seeing my living situation. I felt like living in your car put you into this forsaken corner of society. Now, just discovering this video, I see someone who is living out of their vehicle is content creating and making an art out of living our of their car. If KZbin was what it was now back in 2005, I would definitely have made it through those years with more smiles and guidance. Thank you for this video.

It is so clear that you have put a ton of thought into your set-up while doing it very economically. You have all your bases covered! When I retired I built out an empty cargo van with the help of my good friend. I have to say that I enjoyed the process of thinking about and implementing solutions almost as much as I do camping in the van. What amazes me is how little I need when I'm on the road. But I know I need to get out & have my own experiences. Plus the college is only like 45 minutes away from my house so I could go home anytime I want to. But I guess it’s the fact that that part of my childhood is gonna be over; even though I’m literally about to turn 20 🤣 never thought I would be the type to want to stay home & not move out but I definitely am for my doggies. You should consider tinting your windows! Legality varies by state but I think it would help to keep the car cool in the heat and allow for more privacy. You have a lot of useful things in the car and only you should be able to see it! You can also buy some more interior space and extra cargo if you get roof racks with a tortoise shell up top Edit: I just saw your solution to the tints which was great. But tints aren't too expensive in case you change your mind
@jemr1865
@jemr1865 Жыл бұрын
Agree on the tints only because I think it actually gives away the living situation. If someone is scanning a park lot to break in, those homemade ones would stand out since they dont look useful for driving, only for living in your car.

I was forced to live in a 2002 Yukon XL Denali, I called it my "Hotel on wheels" since it was so big. Jersey winters were brutal at that time *unlike now*. Spending $100 everytime to fill the tank, just so I can have heat on those really cold nights suck, but I made it thru that time. I also put myself thru Technical school the entire time I was homeless. I say all this to say, if your choices are, sleeping on the streets, or sleeping in a car, make sure your car is big enough for you and all your gear.

I think I'll borrow that idea from you as I have been living out of my Dodge Grand Caravan for almost two years and I like for things to not only be organized but easy to get to whether inside or outside of the vehicle. And on a personal note, I love the fact that you carry your Bible with you. Although I do love music, right now I'm really into audio books. So my suggestion would be Jane Eyre (great for a really long drive) or any of the Jane Austen books, if you're into that kind of thing.

I bought 4 sets of black standard window shades/coverings from Walmart for all the windows at night. They pop open and close up quite small. I had black throw blankets and dark colored sheets so everything would look dark and be covered when someone looked into the car during the day. I did add a roof top rack and a rooftop box for more storage, a kayak and my bicycle. It really was my mini-RV!!! Good job sharing budget and compact vehicle living!

When I was a kid, I was raised by my grandma, and me & her went all over Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio, going to various antique malls. I've often said when I retire, if God forbid my wife passes away before me, I'd like to travel again, but next time, not only going to antique malls and flea markets, but also hiking in the wild. Just today, my family and I got back from the Smoky Mountains in east Tennessee, and while I'm not a fan of cold weather, it was a good trip. While there, we got to see a wild black bear. If you've never been to the Smoky Mountains, you should go. It has a lot of beautiful scenery with lots of trails, creeks, streams, and small waterfalls. Just make sure your brakes are in good shape! Your cardboard option is actually, unfortunately a very clear giveaway that someone is sleeping in that car. Also a roof rack would be ideal to help when you leave your water heating baggie on the roof. Otherwise, awesome stealthy set-up for living in a car. Love! Love! Love! Keep it up, I lived in my van for 4 years, now I'm in an apartment and I find myself lost, paying someone money so he can let me live in his own house, keeping up with the Johnesses and all that stuff. I cannot wait to get another one and live again in it until I can finally live off of my online business. Cheers!

this hit home! I miss my van so much it's pitiful i wouldve still had it if i hadnt have come back to the city and got stuck at a so called friends house!!! I was trying to fix get it back up and running but me and the so called friend ended up falling out and i had to leave my van there, i told her that i would come back and get it and the day that I would come get it and when I got there to get it it was gone, she sold it along with all of my belongings inside. So I had to move into a place, Moving back into a house gave me anxiety, i worry a lot now, and yes it is paying someone to live in their house, omg i cant wait to get another van but now my children are bigger and used to living in a house, so ill have to wait until they are on their own to even start again, man being in my van was the most enjoyable time ever...i still go back to those memories...

@@YaGirlKanina Well, I don't have children yet, I just can say that if you don't start today maybe you will regret it later. I was so focused on myself when I lived that way, hitting the gym hard everyday, earning my money as a self employed without any stress at all, learning the craft that in the future will make me probably millions, and now I'm stuck here, always running and working extra hours just to make ends meet, losing time for the things I really want to do (not studying or training almost at all). I've been like this for around 10 months and I tell you I'm done, I'm not going to sacrifice my life just so people think "normal" about me. I don't care "living like a bum" (in their eyes) for some time. We will see who is the loser when they end up excruciated for working their entire lives for another person and then realizing they wasted all his life just to pay bills.

If you’re looking to save space I’d really recommend looking into solid shampoo and conditioner, the little bars are way easier to store. Also the brand I use ethique also has dishwashing and laundry bars which are great for camping and are way easier to travel with imo. I hope you’re staying safe and having a happy new year!

Been in my corolla since 2020. I tried the trunk thing but it wasn't for me. I lay diagonally in the backseat and if the seat is all the way forward I have just barely enough room to lay straight if I want to, I'm a side sleeper though so no issues at all. Every 3 months I completely go through everything I have and see what I need to keep and what I can get rid of to save more space. Happy trails out there!
@nomaderic

@C. Lord I'm no expert but I've been a side sleeper all my life. I'm one of those people that sleep in a fetal position. My posture is perfect. I'm sure I offset all of that though because I'm a weight lifter and I keep myself in great shape. If you didn't exercise and were very sedentary I can see how that would be a problem

Do cops ever knock on the window when you’re sleeping or do you use campsites only?
@nomaderic
@nomaderic Жыл бұрын
@Heather Storm no I don't think I've ever paid somewhere to sleep. Sleeping isn't as hard as people make it out to be. Find a spot where you blend in, don't draw attention, and go to sleep. Wake up when the sun is about to come up and leave. It's really that simple. In the hundreds of different places I've slept in my car I've only gotten told I had to leave twice.

You are extremely strategic in everything you have! Also, I think the cardboard with fabric over it is better than tinted windows. We have tinted windows, but I still feel uneasy about leaving my stuff inside sometimes, because people can still see in if they really take a good look. Not that they would! But, they could.
