The history of the Royal Ballet begins here, in Angkor, the former capital of the Khmer Empire, founded in the 9th century AD.
The Apsara dancers lived in heaven with the gods. One thousand years ago, King Khumba, the legendary founder of the kingdom, fell in love with one of them. Charmed, the dancer came down to earth and became the Princess Mera. She then taught the secrets of the celestial dance to mortals.
Over the centuries, a link of divine beauty was woven between the figure of the King and the dance that fell from the heavens. The Royal Ballet was created from the love of art and power.

Khmer civilization is South Indians. who are the ancestors of the Siamese people before Khmer people, it's Khao Man. a savage race who live in this district Come to the royal family, ask for the Khmer people of the ancestors. The Khmer people have no language or culture. That are used are all Indian civilizations. Don't assume where you came from. Nowadays, I come to refer to Thai culture and art to the fullest. If you can read those hand gestures, it quite unique and more enjoyable. Only the original can perform with fluid and precise movements. Those fake copies dance with random stiff movements with no meaningful interpretation.

Thanks you for showcase our culture to the world, because international people would wonder why you say it Thai Apsara. When they see the dance performance in Khmer with the same song and language by Khmer people. When they visit Thai they see a different Apsara dance and doesn't speak the same language . Fun fact the music that sang and the language that are spoken are the same tone. I love Thai, please keep showcase Khmer dance so the world will get to know us even more.

Not sure why Thai people are getting so riled up. The legend of the Apsaras, the clothing, the dancing, the poses are literally carved into the walls of Angkor Wat. The legend of the monkey god is also prevalent in many cultures. Stories and myths get shared over centuries and interpreted in different ways, why get so mad over it? Is India coming into the comments to start a flame war? Hinduism was the earliest religion the Angkorian civilization after all.

Khemer is thelanguage for cambodians..The script for this language was developed by Inian Pallava varman kings who ruled Cambodia from indian Pallava script . Khemer language consists lot of words of Sanskrit and Phali indian old languages

It's Khmer dance, if you want to know all you have to do is ask all the dancer what county are they from and what dance are they performing. Is it a Thai dance or a Khmer dance. Don't just record and say what ever you want. Give credit to what it due. Ask the dancer I bet you it's Khmer. Wow those people are Khmer and you call them Thai.

People have asked and interviews with palace dancers, teachers and the late Great Princess Buppha Devi, they confirmed the Cambodian palace dances were heavily influenced by Thai dance, with Thai costumes and songs, and most important of all, with Thai dance instructors sometimes being loaned to the Cambodian Royal Court by the Thai Royal Court and sometimes with Cambodian Royal dancers going to study at the Thai Royal Court. The dances of the Cambodian Royal have been adapted to Cambodian tastes, so they are not Thai, but they are heavily based on Thai classical Royal Court Dance traditions. Unfortunately the Ancient Apsara dance of the Khmer Empire had long been lost, the Apsara dance of today is adapted from Thai dance style.

To the experience eyes, it is clear that this is a Khmer dance style. But the present Khmer dance are based off of Thai court cultures dance as Cambodia was once a vassal state of Thailand and prices and kings were raised in Thai courts before crowned king in Cambodia. So all the court cultures were all adapted from Thai royal court. It’s nationalisms that is fueling the argument of who came up with what. In some respect, both cultures influence each other and that is true globally.

If it was true that Thai culture was more developed than Khmer's then why there was no such big magnificent temple in Thailand like the famous Khmer's Angkor Wat ? There are no temple of such size and majesty in Thailand ..! Besides Thailand was never occupied by foreigners, luckily. a different destiny than the ever occupied Cambodia , so that's why Thai kingdom people are more culturally versatile in dancing etc, and on top of that the communist Red Pol Pot made the small Khmer nation still more poorer

@@axquivi And after more digging in research again, there was never Khmer empire but Khom Varman empire in fact, which were the ancestors of many Thai people today. You can see that Khmer popular in Southeast Asia is actually very small. Even today, there are only 14 million Khmer people in the world. This is because Khmers were just a minority people during the empire, and mostly they're slaves. Meanwhile, Thai people today are the direct descendants of the Khom Varman empire, continue to develop and move forward. Lets not forget that the Varmans who built Angkor wat brought the cultures from Phimai, Thailand, to build Angkor wat in Cambodia. This explains why Thailand is 169 years ahead of Cambodia and Cambodia still uses Thai cultures and everything until today ^^

@@iROChakri And then if you dig deeper and do more research, you'll found out whatever they call "Khom Varman Empire" is fake, and is a fairytale the Thais have been passing on. No historical record of "Khmer empire" being call "Khom Varman empire". There are less than 20 million Khmers because the Khmers during Angkorian era had to flee to neighboring kingdom to seek for better life after the fall of Angkor which explains the drop down of the population. While the Siamese on the other hand migrated from southern China (Tai Siam) and lived in Angkor or other Mon kingdoms, inheriting Mon-Khmer culture. Some Thais have Khmer-Mon ancestry, because the Khmers fleed (I already explained) leading to the Thais believing they were the rulers of the mighty Khmer Empire. Phimai was a beautiful classical example of Khmer arts built by Khmer people, very beautiful that neighbors would do anything to claim it. Pretty sure back then, 169 years ago in Thailand, they didn't have large buildings, shopping malls. If Thailand was actually 169 years ahead, they'd be the most advance civilisation right now, but it isn't fortunately and never will be. Khmer culture will always have large influence in Thailand ^^

@regqtillo4401 What research did you do to come up with your conclusion? I’m sure you’ve probably listen to the late HRH Bupadevi saying on film that Thai dancers and teachers were brought to the Cambodian royal court to teach the dances. The songs that were sung were in Thai but later were change to suit the Khmer audience.( You can find the video on KZbin) . Of course because you’ve done such an extensive research, you’d know that Cambodia was a Thai vassal state for almost 400 years. Princess were raised in Thai royal court, Ang Duong and Ang Eng both lived in Bangkok where they obviously absorbed Thai culture. When they crowned king of Cambodia, Thai court culture is brought to Cambodian court. But it’s obvious your comment had other intention and that intention was more NATIONALISM more than academic in nature.

Thais have no such dance and there is no other dance in the world that is like this. Only khmers have the gracefulness demanded by this dance paying respect to the angels of angkor. Seems like you love khmer culture to the point of becoming delusional. For a small group of Thais the influence of khmers make them delusional and forget their roots. Please appreciate your identity as a southern China culture. I'm sure you too have something to be proud of so please embrace your real root and stop attacking my people.
