SUSSEX POLICE RESPONSE: Thank you for your email, I have been on leave and so have ben catching up with my emails. Having been interviewed in custody, the suspect arrested was bailed initially to allow me further time to conduct enquiries. I have been able to establish that the suspect we had in custody was not involved in the theft itself, although he was in the group that did commit the offence. None of the other witnesses present who were willing to provide statements were able to identify him as having directly stolen the bike. We have not been able to identify who these others are and so that element of the investigation cannot progress further. In regard to the broken broom handle that the suspect had, he provided an account for this. During the melee when his group were detained, he was punched really quite hard in the face to the extent that he required treatment from a nurse at custody. The suspect who is 15 years old said that he had picked up the broom, broken off the handle and held it in anticipation of being hit again. This is a valid defence and given his age and lack of offending history, we would not progress this to a conviction. Thank you again for your patience in waiting for my response, Kind regards T-DC {REDACTED} Criminal Investigation Department (C.I.D) | C Section Crowhurst Road Police Station | Crowhurst Road | Brighton | BN1 8AF ##

exactly. No mercy. Be judged on the content of your character and your actions. Your age is completely irrelevant. And people thinking it is is EXACTLY what allows this to continue. They are CREATING an ADULT who is going to become 10x worse than his teenage self, because his teenage self was ENCOURAGED and he saw that he kept 'getting a way with it'.... STOP GOING EASY ON THEM. they don't deserve it at all. They don't deserve mercy or compassion. All these fuckin weirdos that think they deserve to be given a break because 'they're young'.... are JUST AS BAD as them......
@xxwookey Жыл бұрын
@@jamesjackson5020 Age isn't completely irrelevant. Youth do do stupid things. A large fraction of teenagers try shoplifting at some point. The smart ones never do it again if they get nicked and let off with a warning (that includes me aged 17 or something). So some allowance for the stupidity of youth is in order. Criminalising someone for life is not necessarily the best for them or society (see the USA and its epic and expensive prison population and a lot of wasted lives due to a very intolerant (and often racist) approach). I'd say going out with a balaclava and an angle grinder (and two mates) to nick bikes on a busy street is a lot worse than nicking a Deep Purple tape, but some compassion is in order. I'm mostly impresed that the Police turned up with 2 cars and several officers and did actually nick him. That doesn't happen in Cambridge when bikes get stolen, despite it being almost 2/3rds of the (not speeding/parking) total crime in the county.

This disgusts me for many reasons. There is the obvious but then there are several examples of why this society is knackered and why it will never change. The woman telling him to go is thinking about every agenda on her list and not concerned at all about the fact that he tried to pinch another person's bike with an angle grinder. The entitlement felt by certain groups nowadays is absolutely vile. Also we seem to live in a world where things like race, age or gender become the first and most important aspects of the moment when a crime is committed.
