My childhood was in a Anglo indian house boarding. I miss those days tates. I still search for the watery beef stew which goes with bread. Its not the beef or potato I look for. Its that gravy

Thank you Bridget. I have just made your Bo Bo Curry and watched you cooking Glassie, which my late mother's used to cook for us when we came home from school. Brings back very good memories. I think as we live in the UK my mother may have served it with vegetables, but I can't remember which ones now? She used to use Steak and Kidney. Perhaps that made it go further with 7 mouths to feed! She was a good Cook like you. I so much value your Cookery Demonstrations as it brings back all the memories of my mother's good cooking too, as we grew up. God Bless you and take care x Mary

Dear Mary. Thank you so much for your kind words. Means so much to me that my cooking is like the way your mum cooked. Yes the older generation were so versatile. They knew how to stretch a dish by adding veggies so that there would be enough for everyone. Look after yourself. God bless

@@bridgetwhiteangloindianrecipes Thank you Bridget. I think she made Mashed potato with chopped raw onion and Mint in it and probably possibly Cabbage. I will try it. Though I don't eat much red meat nowadays. But probably OK now and again. I may try adding Mushrooms or Aubergine. Or just try a vegetarian version. I will let you know how I get on. God Bless x Mary

Hi Bridgette, so lovely to have stumbled on your channel. Just to give you a little of my background, My dear Grandpa came to india with the British Army, and decided to stay back when the Brits left India and bought a lovely rambling bungalow in Jhansi where he settled down. He met my dearest Nanny at one of the balls that they used to have, Nanny was born in India

Sorry Bridgette, dont know what i pressed to post the reply before i finished my story. Grandpa's surname was Messer, and back to my background, Nanny was born in India out of British parents they were the Crudgingtons. They fell an love and stayed in Jhansi which was a very rural area which is probably what attracted Grandpa since he came from London. My dear Mummy became a nurse and took up a posting in KEM hospital in Bombay. It was there she met my dear Daddy( punjabi) who was a doctor at the hospital and from all accounts it was love at first sight and within a year they were married and my eldest brother (one of 6) was born a year later. They stayed in Bombay until the family migrated to Australia in 1973.It was getting very hard to find gainfull employment with all the Government regulations that made job applications etc written in hindi which to us was a second langusge as we spoke english at home, the government passed legislation which guaranteed a fair proportion of jobs were given to the schedule castes, so they decided to pack up and move to Australia as some of my Mum's school friends ( the Cunninghams and the Osbourne's )from Jhansi had already moved to Australia and kept telling them how good life here was they called it the land of "milk & honey" so they came and landed in Sydney where they stayed till they moved in with me and my family about 15 years before they passed away. They were allowed to leave India with only $8 per head so they had to find various ways to smu ggle funds out like gold jewellery etc. When i cook for my family and friends they get to taste all the beaut Anglo Indian dishes and with no word of a lie, my darling wife's favourite dish is "Glassy" so it makes me happy that someone like you is out there preserving our Anglo Indian culture and cuisine. Anyway it is so lovely to meet you through your channel and i'm sure we'll talk again soon. Kind regards, Roy.

Dear Roy thank you so much for telling me about your lovely family right from your grandparents till now. So happy to read your message. Especially your family’s journey to Australia. I knew a lady Aunty Peggy Candem from Jhansi who got in touch with me around 15 years ago. She used to be very involved with the Anglo-Indian Association of Jhansi and took great interest in maintaining the cemetery in Jhansi. Sadly she passed on a few years ago. Glad that you cook our Anglo-Indian dishes and your dear wife loves it.

Looks delicious. Our cook use to make this almost every night with Chapatti. Wasn't my favourite dish back then but I am certainly going to try making it. My family and I left Howrah back in 1966. My Father was the Chief Controller in Howrah station. Surname Watson. Thank you for your cooking recipes of Anglo Indian food.
