I love that this family does not follow the norm. They are in captivity and do the best instinctually. Humans try to humanize gorillas rather then seek to understand. Shabani is special because he exhibits strength and care. I like when he gets the family running after him. I like when he is silly and Kiyo and Annie are also silly. Nene is not someone to get rid of because of her age. Perhaps that is the mentality of some humans. And Ai needs the space to be herself even though she does not perform like humans think she should. Love to the whole family with respect

Ai has had 2 babies & didn’t take care of either one. Why be so disappointed that she’s not having another baby? When Nene is done living and the kids have moved away, I bet the zoo gets another 1 or 2 more females for Shabani.

@@TheFlashyWeasel This zoo has contracts with zoo's outside of Japan trading other animals (the polar bears and lions) so they can trade for other Gorillas and likely will when Nene dies. Kyoto City also trades with zoo's outside of Japan. Exporting/importing licenses aren't as difficult as they used to be which is why Kyoto City has signed already to bring in a new female gorilla. It's possible.

@@lady4vols but to separate her would upset them terribly. Gorilla females normally stay close to their mothers, sisters, daughters throughout life unless something tragic happens or they follow another silverback.

They have feelings and emotions and there moments like anyone else right they make good parents and grandparents and uncles and aunties and stepparents and brothers and sisters they are very smart and intelligent animals always learning something new each day from the gorillas they make better parents and friends than most people out there much love and respect to the gorillas instead way to go very impressed really enjoyed and appreciate the vidoes please keep them coming appreciate you guys thanks !!!! Todas fêmeas gorilas que eu conheço apenas nene e Ai desrespeita o líder... isso e muito triste, e ainda fico mais triste que Shabani um gorila tão bonito, gentil, brincalhão, protetor, um bom pai e não muito agressivo não é admirado pelas fêmeas ☹️ até a Annie que não tinha nada aver com o ocorrido ficou com medo da Ai. Shabani precisa ter uma fêmea que de todo amor e carinho e que respeite ele..

They do it in the wild and in captivity. I've witnessed wild female use vocals to let a silverback know she's upset, especially if there's friction in the troop. And Merry has done it to Hoako. You'd be surprised how much wrong information is on the Internet. If you'd like to know some truths, feel free to ask. I'll guide you.

@@thewisepowerchair2369 You forget these are captive gorillas. Their behaviors are somewhat similar , but different in many ways. Genki's mother died from wounds from a silverback. There was no troop to help or defend her. In the wild, there have been actions where females have fought silverbacks, especially over their babies.

Ai was mad that Nene left her to sit next to Shabani. At least Ai was moving -she is a sitter and doesn't give Shabs any loving. Shabani is phenomenal! Nene was cool in this video.

If only all female gorillas were like Tayari. She can't keep her hands off of D'jeeco. And she's quiet comical crawling over his head when he doesn't move, sitting on Jabali and dragging him, punching D'jeeco and stealing his food. They're 😂. I love Shabani and wish the same for him, but it would probably upset him to be removed from his family.

I often wonder how captive gorillas are supposed to respect the silverback. Shabani doesn’t get to lead his crew to food and shelter nor does he have to protect his family from threats in the wild. All he can really do is break up scuffles and flex his muscles it seems. I’d be really curious to see him interact in the wild (as long as nothing bad happens to him haha but I know there’s no stopping that)

Eventually, Nene will die. Kyo will go and be with a female or other silverbacks. Annie will be with a mate. That will leave Shabani and AI. They will bring in another female. Hopefully, Shabani will mate with both females and have new babies

Speaking in human terms, Ai has definitely divorced Shabani. A while ago she had sex with Kyomasa. It would be nice if Shabani were moved to a different enclosure (with Annie) and could have a female who wanted him.
