This is getting depressing. I have been playing games since the late 80s/early 90s. In my 30s now, I want younger gamers to inherit a space that is cool and awesome, filled with passion. That is what gaming is about. But now with loot box slot machine psychology being added as a norm in AAA gaming, you have to stop and think. Strip off the flashing lights, the catchy sounds, the custom skins, the random rewards, and what you get is the training of internalizing, habitualizing the practice of gambling into us. It is behaviour psychology 101. We are being trained like rats in a skinner box. Thats what greedy publishers and developers think gamers are now - rats to be trained. There is a reason yt gamers like Angry Joe, Total Biscuit, Jim Sterling, YongYea and others are sounding the alarm. The gaming landscape is slowly but surely adopting gambling orientations, just to nickle and dime gamers for more money. Like trained rats in a skinner box. Unless we say no. It is the younger gamers that will inherit the gaming space. Young gamers will come to the gaming space thinking all this slot machine loot box nonsense is normal to gaming when its not. And after decades of habitualizing, internalizing gambling-gaming practices, where you think these new adults will be? Upright people no doubt but with gambling tendencies. And we're talking of the current and next two generations worth of people. And if adopting slot machine psychology becomes such a money maker for these greedy publishers and developers, what else in gambling will they try to push into gaming. And you know they will if there is no outcry now. My advice - Check out of AAA gaming. Go back to behaviour psychology they are trying to use on us. Do not reward nonsense behavior. Check out of AAA gaming where they are starting to treat gamers like rats to be trained. Support Indies instead. Indies still carry the heart of gaming. Gaming is not about money. Gaming is about gaming.

Ask yourself, in the time you have been gaming, when did $60 become the standard price for a game? Last gen is when game prices stabilized, so about a decade ago. Since then, we have seen AAA game budgets skyrocket, and the price of a game has not increased. If we were to simply account for inflation, we should be paying close to $75. DLC is one way publishers were attempting to recoup their investment, and gamers are upset, sometimes rightfully so because it can split the playerbase. If we were to be content to pay $75 for a game, maybe all these strategies would go away. But as gamers, we would all cry foul if the standard price of a game rose $15 as well.

For about 4 years now mobile games have been KILLING it with gatcha roll based systems. Just look at games like Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, and DBZ Dokkan Battle, and you will easily find streamers who are spending well over $1000 on gatcha rolls for cards or equipment. The community of gamers that whales on games supports this business mechanic, and big devs HAVE to have seen the success, so it becomes the next logical step to paid DLC. The potential for additional revenue is x10 higher with RNG roll gatcha systems. I want to be mad about it, but gamers are speaking with their wallets and we are dooming ourselves. Yo angry Joe's, my son loves star wars and loves gaming. This kind of thing pisses me off as a parent and a gamer myself. Come Christmas Santa brings them the game they want so badly, already spending god knows how much on the initial purchase. Next day the child comes and cries to buy 'credits' and DLC because they can't get the new guns or attachments!! Emmanuel A I see them altering the system, definitely. The problem to me seems to be that the loot crates simply give you slightly better gear, but everyone seems to be angered by that fact alone. In reality, the upgrades seem to be minimal. GTA V is a pay to win game, but no one seems to be bothered by that. I feel like if EA not only had a better reputation, but also focused on perfecting the loot system to balance it out and demonstrating how minimal the affects of the star cards are, then few people would be angered by loot crates. This isn't a pay to win system. There will be tons of star cards in the full game, the gunplay seems to be tailored to better skilled players, and the only star card balancing seems to be on the ships. Overall, the system is on the right track; it's flawed, but its getting on the right path.

People used to joke about paying for ingame bullets, there are games with microtransactions for that nowadays. I still remember Battlefield Vietnam which had no progression. You didn't even need an account, I'd join a game and like 3 people never even changed their name from the default "player." I usually played on a bot slaughter server, the game play and community were so good there was really no need for progression to keep me coming back. There really isn't much of a difference between a hacker/cheater and a pay to win player. I'm afraid that won't work, even if loot crates are ruled as a form of gambling, the US government doesn't actually have any laws regulating online gambling. Only two states have laws against it, but none of the others do. You'd need to lobby to first have federal regulations put in place regarding online gambling, THEN convince lawmakers that lootboxes are a form of gambling, all the while furiously hoping those idiots who probably haven't played anything other than solitaire start to over-regulate because some oversensitive religious/feminist groups hop on the bandwagon to lobby for more censorship.

DLC was initially actual expansions to games. That was great, getting more content in a game you enjoy versus having to wait for and buy a whole new iteration. Now what DLC devolved into is awful. As for paid for loot boxes, they should only be cosmetic. OW does it great IMO. I preordered Battlefront 2 in 2005 for my birthday. When I got to the store they had sold my copy to someone else. My mom, brother, best friend and I drove 1 hr to several other stores before we found a copy- that store’s last copy. We drove home and my friend and I stayed up all night playing it on the PS2. It was one of my best birthday memories. So sad that EA has ruined this franchise. I preordered Battlefront (2015). Was so disappointing. I won’t be preordering or buying this.

I had same expectations... first 2 originals were the absolute best shit ever, the ship to ship battles was the the most fun you could have with your cloths on, blew me away it wasn't in the relaunch in 2015, and after paying a stupid amount for the pre order on the reboot I have less than 10 hours put into it because EA took thier shitty batlfield engine and painted a star wars skin on it, not just lazy but a complete fuck you to the fans of the franchise, fuck EA, fuck the developers and anyone who took the legend that was battlefront and bastardized what COULD have been amazing , mind blowing and satisfying and instead left us with another watered down fucking turd put out soly for the use of sponging money.... sad sad day

But now all game devs are starting to get greedy with micro transactions and are slowing their future developments of games. Patrick Binosa Yes, that is true. However, what Joe is getting at is that players can just pay for gun while others are working hard to get it. It takes forever just to get 100 crafting parts even after hours of gameplay (and that's not including upgrades). The problem is that second guns and upgrades require hours maybe days just to get near them regardless of skill, but you can just skip all of it and pay for it.

That's not paid to win. If a guys get's the weapon faster but you can also get it by spending more time playing that's not pay to win. That's fast forward if you want to call it. But Joe saying this game is pay to win utter bullshit. I played 16h all classes all modes guess what? Half of the time I forgot about star cards and still was top 3 on the board. Hell I had most kills with Officer which Joe was crying was shit. He just can't play an officer. Anyway... Not once I felt a player killed me because he had better star cards. Also Joe didn't mention about the "Carear" tab which awards you so much credits just for playing the game. I completed all the challenges guess what got all the weapons and most star cards and I didn't spend one crafting material. For fuck sake... You cried about DLC so EA went with improving that. Of course they need to make money somehow if the DLC it's going to be free. I suspected that and I'm fine with that. Games now costs more than movies to be produced. You people will bitch and moan about everything. Loved the Beta. Like the Star Cards can't wait to see more. Already Pre-ordered.
