i dont think its a dead game because i dont think games die. i dont think a game is *meant* to die - that's a pretty recent thing that i really hadn't heard of until the last few years. i love complaining about this game too, but i also genuinely think the game that we got is still really good. people are still starting new channels with new horizons game play! i just dont think we need to let games die if we dont want to. (also, it was $60, im running this thing into the ground)

Yeah honestly the idea of games dying is so weird to me, since there are so many old games that haven't been updated in years but still have a thriving community. Though also I'd say it's a bit different for a game like animal crossing, which by design was "meant" to be played in real time (side note: obviously play however you want, I'm just talking about what the developers originally intended). Usually when devs want their players to return every day, they regularly add bits of content to make it more fun, like time-limited events for example. I really hope we get more of that with the next AC game (we probably won't lol), cuz for me that's a big wasted opportunity for ACNH

I think the only way to stay entertained with the game is to choose a theme and go with it, like restart and use a theme to decorate and choose the villagers, like a japanese island/spooky island/cowboy island. Otherwhise you end up building the same island over and over again

I feel like it's the opposite works me, actually. Any time I try to do a theme I get so bored with it I just want to reset and do a diffrent one, but with a non-theme island, it feels alot more fun to do whatever I want, whenever I want.

to me, the game isn't dead because there are so many island ideas I want to do - Until recently I only ever played on and off, set myself/forced myself to do a theme I eventually lost interest in and stopped playing... That changed a few days ago when I reset my island and gave my island a less themed name and I'm just allowing myself to actually enjoy myself

from where i'm at, animal crossing: new horizons isn't a dead game because it's not a live service game. they released a full game, and then a dlc and that's it. the only way i feel it could be considered a "dead game" if they were actively always doing updates for it, new events and trying to keep an ongoing active community, things they aren't trying. it's a game that you beat and can continue playing or stop, that's the point of it. which i think is nice when there are so many unfinished games that acts like a live service game when it's not supposed to be. btw, absolute adore your content! and there's nothing wrong with getting bored with it but still wanting to play, so you restart your island. as someone who still has their og island, i never saw a reason to do so, and still enjoy playing it when im not playing my other games and catching up with my villagers.

some tips to not get bored quick, don't go to treasure islands or cheat, grind for your own money, get villagers that you don't normally get or aren't the "popular" ones, don't have a specific theme, change your island per season or your own holidays, collect everything in the museum

I'm gonna restart my forever island at some point because resident services is way too close to my airport. Originally it didn’t bother me, but on my second switch, I made a little entrance and must make another. I don't think the game is dead because the community keeps coming up with different challenges and themes to keep it interesting and fun. I've mostly played casually but now I've gotten into decorating myself. I kinda want to make my own channel. But I really don't want to teach myself how to edit videos.

I've never played an animal crossin game until my little sister asked me to help her play acnh she got 4 Christmas. I got months of progress & flattened her island to make it easier for us to party play. The problem is some of yall don't have enough patience & are perfectionists, which is a volatile combo. I only restarted once to get an island with less rivers. If I could change & borrow some mechanisms from other simulator games to make acnh more practical & fun, I would bc I think the developers didn't think some mechanisms through enough.

So I still play. I started playing in June 2020. I couldnt find a switch (yay lockdowns) but my sister and brother in law found a used one for my birthday that came with animal crossing. I still have that original island and play frequently. I wish all the time they'd update lol, it's boring except I can't get blue roses or all the fish so I still have those at least to do. I also have the dlc to play on there so it's fun. That said, a year later I bought the animal crossing switch and had another island there but have reset twice cause it does get boring once everything's built and you bought all the stuff you want, there's not much else to do. I recently reset again and am redoing an island right now. Restarting is fun haha.

I guess most of the reason i’m enjoying playing animal crossing right now is because i played it on release and then didn’t play again until i was gifted my own switch october of last year. I also never cheated when i first played the game because i didn’t have a nintendo account, so being able to get money and items from free treasure islands to get straight to the decorating/terraforming part of the game has been something i’m really appreciative of. Im working on the first two islands i intend to complete. I do really wish the game worked better and that the nintendo switch was better at running stuff in general, but other than that i’m ok.

I want to reset my island so badly but I have good villagers and I’m afraid I won’t get lucky twice. Marshal moved in without me doing anything he just moved in during the beginning of the game, Rosie was also a beginning villager that I didn’t nave to use tickets to find, Beau came after one of my other villages decided they didn’t want to live on my island again but she was a random spawn I didn’t have to use tickets. Lastly Judy was a random spawn from a villager that didn’t want to live on my island anymore. I did put chai, Marty, and kitty on my island by tickets or Amibo cards. But I was lucky with the rest. My biggest reason I want to reset is because I started the game before I had my own profile so I’m playing the game using my brothers profile and I want it to be mine. I can have another profile but everything is already done so what’s the point?
