​​@@DailyCorvidbest part as well is that Warlord Games isn't as suffocating of homebrewed/homemade units, models, etc as Games Workshop is. If you own a 3D printer there is a massive community for terrain, aircraft, etc to help flesh out your games

Bolt Action is a fabulous rules set. And while I encourage people to support Warlord Games, you don't necessarily have to use 'official' models to play the game. There are tons of alternative models for the numerous forces available in the game, so playing Bolt Action doesn't break the bank, and you can play with what models you want. For example, I don't like the fact that Warlord vehicles are 1/56 scale (which I think is much too small); I built and painted 1/48 scale vehicles that I picked up from traditional model manufacturers, and I feel the models are much more appropriate.

5:36 - Newbies to the game might wonder how come the infantry piling out of the vehicle didn't have the same to-hit number as the vehicle itself (i.e., '5' vs. '6': 3+cover+small target), given that the infantry moved as well. It's important to mention that U.S. troops firing with M1s and BARs don't suffer the -1 shooting penalty when moving due to the army's special rules of "Fire & Maneuver". 😉

If Joe is playing Americans, i believe they have the M1 Gaurand special rule where they dont get a -1 move penalty for shooting those semiautomatic rifles.

Another good WW2 wargame worth looking at is Flames of War. At 15mm scale the models are smaller so the game plays up at a 'reinforced company' level rather than the 'reinforced platoon' level you get in Bolt Action. For when you want to run 20 Shermans over some Nazis :D

My middle child will play these sometimes. So a few questions as a new starter to Bolt Action. Q1. The US Engineer squad has a flame thrower, two BAR's (LMG's) and apparently two machine guns? Maybe the rules are different for the US forces but how many machine guns can you field in a squad, particularly an understrength squad? Q2. The US troops are facing early war Germans??? Are the second squad Heer, standard German infantry, which makes sense because no armour, or Grenadiers which are an elite-ish unit? They can't be both. Q3. What was with the shot at Game Workshop. I hear this a bit on Bolt Action vid's. You guys are so intimidated by GW you can't miss a chance to troll them? Why can't you just play and enjoy this game. I play about 20 different wargaming systems without rancour on any of them. By the way, you do know that the designers of Bolt Action were former GW developers right. Q4. What the hell is a Belford armoured car? No mention of the guns in it by the way. From what I can make out the vehicle is an SdKfz222 light armoured car with an anti-aircraft gun squeezed in, lets not go with the rest of it. So I am thinking, if you and the other videos I have seen have this inferiority complex about GW where you have to troll them, and your historical continuity is all over the place without context or explanation, and this is representative of the Bolt Action community, I will only be gaming with my son only. We don't need the toxicity or historical ignorance. We can game other systems in games clubs.

The moral tests and the whole roll to do what feels like anything at all (moving vehicle, getting out of it) seem way too swingy. Losing 50% of a squad and not being able to move at all to one bad roll you can do nothing about doesn't sound fun to me personally.

Talking about list building, if you’re German never pick the stug. It’s too expensive for what it is (despite historically being one of the most important and numerous German tanks). Always pay marginally more for the much better panzer 4.

True gaming is coming back to the table. Corporate encroachment on video game development has destroyed the art form and made it less relevant than it’s tangible counterparts. Book readers know that the content found on the page blows what you can find on the screen out of the water, but there was a golden age of cinema where that wasn’t true…..but again corporate encroachment killed the art form.
