Jairam Ramesh is more than a media incharge of the largest opposition party in India. He is an author, a former Minister and a TV anchor. So much so that one critic called him the "Aishwarya Rai of TV" when he used to anchor a TV show. In an animated conversation with Smita Prakash, the maverick politician was sharp in his criticism of the media which he says is biased against the Congress. He defends the Bharat Jodo Yatra of Rahul Gandhi and says it is rejuvenating the cadres. About his past avatars, in the party and government, Jairam speaks about his interactions with Rajiv Gandhi, Dr Singh, Sitaram Kesri, Narasimha Rao and others. He gets animated when he speaks about other political parties claiming to be the real opposition as opposed to the Congress. A South Indian by birth, Jairam has learned to speak fluent Hindi and switches between English and Hindi in the interview.

It's good to see congress back in action after a long time. The titanic tries to move in the right direction. Congress did the best thing to appoint JR instead of PK for communication. The twist in the game will be in 2024 as BJP will come back to power with more seats than in 2019 thanks the to perfect triangle between BJP, Congress and the regional parties. Jairam Ramesh is a very simple and humble person who has attachment with Chikmagalur even today. He has been treating every individual equally and with integrity irrespective of being in power or not. To share one of my personal experiences, we had visited him in the New Delhi office to meet him when he was RDPR minister. As we arrived he was already leaving to attend an urgent and important program. When he realised that we had come from Chikkamagalur, he postponed the program for by few minutes and spend time inquiring about us. He bid us farewell after a good talk. It is rare to find such people.

SUGGESTION: A podcast is a deep conversation where there's no interference while the other person is speaking. You made it somewhat like a regular interview by saying something or the other even before Jairam Ramesh completed his sentences. And the other thing is for podcast to not become an interview, there should be conversation which is beyond the topics of the regular interviews. So if the guest is a politician (like in this case) we can avoid political questions where he/she attacks the other party and defends his/her political stand. Just a polite suggestion smita ji. 🙏

Thank you for bringing Mr.Jairam to your podcast. It is important for voters to hear both the parties and their narrative. Although I dont agree with him on most of the things he said but I do agree that few media channels have become absolutely biased. For a strong democracy in India, a strong opposition is very important. Although my Vote is for BJP, I hope congress will step up and be a strong opposition to BJP and not let India become a single party nation with absolute power.

Smita Prakash is in the process of image rebuilding for herself because she has often been seen as a BJP supporter/ spokeswoman. I remember one of her interviews where she interviewed the PM who is not known to be giving interviews . 1. Economic inequality is inevitable result of fast growth but very well managed through redistribution. 2. Social polarization is a counterpoint to the false narrative built by congress party for large part of post partition. 3. Weakening of federal structure can be discussed but several regional parties have fallen prey to corruption, criminalization, and casteism. Congress far from helping the situation has often supported these same tendencies.
