Last year, my friend and I sat down and discussed how this music touched me and others and the imagery and at one point she looked at me and said wait, this is very Jungian. Have you seen Carl Jungs redbook? I said no. I have been down a spiritual/ musical rabbit hole and im so happy you have the space to make videos about it. I think fall for me allowed me to project my need for someone else to be there for me. I desperately needed to feel not alone. I've desperately needed a community and some kind of enjoyment in life. This has been a strange journey. Im glad others are in it too. CS Lewis said "I sat with my anger long enough until she told me her real name was grief." Shadow work has absolutely changed my life.

Thank you so much for your comment & your vulnerability in sharing. The humility that comes from acceptance right before venturing into the unconscious is a powerful moment of clarity. It’s like taking a final breath of air as you’ve been treading water in rough seas & accepting your fate that “what you seek the most is where you least want to look” and that place will always be in the shadow, the unconscious. You’ve got this but remember you don’t have to do it alone. What resources do you need to be successful in ALL you strive towards?

We (humans) are spiritual beings having a physical experience. We evolved in small communities where our times around the fire, telling mystical (metaphorical) stories applied meaning and a self orienting north start for our mode of being. Without that, we live in a dead society & dying world. We need places to connect to ourselves and something divine. It’s sorely missed in this “modern” world.

I'm currently struggling deeply with a lot of things for the Nth year in a row, and I've gotta tell you, this is one of the very few videos that I've decided to make a "Life Changing Videos" playlist out of. I've watched this video twice now, and honestly? I don't think this is just a theory. A SLEEP TOKEN THEORY. Nah mate. I think you've cracked it; you've cracked Sleep Token. I don't know, it's that inner knowing part of my spirit that tells me this is at least mostly correct, aside from the minor details you've missed - like the cockroach - or oversimplified, generalized. And it's like I always knew, in the back of my mind, even though I never had any elaborate understanding of any of Carl Jung's work. Genuinely, amazing work man. This video is a banger that I know will leave a huge impact on a lot of people, which a lot of people miss at first, because like me, they gloss over the thing they've a deep soulful interest in at first - due to changing tides, whatever it may be - until someone guides them to a better/different/more correct perception of it. Thank you so much for this.

As someone who found Sleep Token through TikTok, all of the different opinions and ideas of what Vessel is saying in his lyrics were taken into consideration. Sex, pain, love, trust, distrust, hurt, rage, fear, so many emotions and unknowns that collided in a mystery known as Sleep Token. The discovery of self, the focus on that inner darkness, to connect with the unknowns of the universe, blends so seamlessly to show another view of the lyrics. I love psychology, I love looking inward, I also fear what I find because “why” is sometimes just pain and fear and sadness. I’ve heard people call Sleep Token a cult. Maybe it is, maybe it is a cult of self discovery and self actualization and understanding through music. Art is its own language with many interpretations. I’ll sign up for this cult if it means I can shine a light on the darkest parts of myself and welcome them into existence. Thank you for this

It reminds me of a passage from Tao Te Ching, “In pursuit of knowledge, every day something is added. In the practice of the Tao, every day something is dropped. Less and less do you need to force things, until finally you arrive at non-action. When nothing is done, nothing is left undone. True mastery can be gained by letting things go their own way. It can’t be gained by interfering.” I believe it is about finding “the way” or “the tao” in everything as to leave nothing undone. It IS the way.

58:33 My answer to this question is "nothing". Im watching this, cause I dont want to dissociate from anything anymore, to find a path for myself, to reflect on my most inner desires. SleepToken and the interpretations I developed myself and watched/read from other people on their album trilogy is a main part of doing this. Im starting to fo get into the works and concepts of some philosophers to find some answers for my questions on views of the world, but actually I found that Carl Jungs depiction of the human soul separating them into masculine and feminine parts would be a bit outdated. But it seems like you can interpret this concept in a newer way that fits more in todays society and values (just like with many other philosophies). So to get a new point of view on this through Sleep Token and your video was very refreshing and just a new experience in general. So thank you for that, I appreciate it. This was amazing! Thank you! I went through this “dark night” in 2013/2014. I’m blessed to be on the other side. It makes so much more sense why Sleep Token feels like a stab and a hug at the same time. Putting words and music to that time. My god! Just amazing.

@monicaf42247 ай бұрын
@@TheR.Y.S.E.Movement Horrible, abusive marriage here. Totally understand. I think the video somehow validated my experience not only as real, but is also somewhat universal. That time I really was drawn to dark and unexplored parts of myself. From the music I was consuming, the books I was reading, the videos I was watching. It opened up something in me that needed healing. While at the time it was soul crushing, I am so grateful of the person I've become because of it. And the parent I am now. I am on the other side. That has to be why ST resonates with me and why your videos give me such "ah ha" moments! Thank you!!

I apologize for the long comment. But great job man, you killed it. I would like to contribute a few of my interpretations. I don't know if I agree with the interpretation of the trans experience but it's possible I misinterpreted. To me the transition is the taking off of the mask and integrating despite social reprisal. White chrysanthemums (if I got that flower correct) can represent mourning and grief, and white roses can mean innocence and purity. My interpretation of it is that he mourns the corruption (cockroach) of a relationship that started innocently and became something toxic or rotten. There's also symbolism from the Chymical Marriage in the water allegory. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for all your hard work on this video, it is enlightening and so good to hear your perspectives on Sleep Token's incredible art! 29:16 I just wanted to share my thought on the topic of anima/ animus and trans people. The way I see it, everyone has their own version of the archetypes (and there are more archetypes than we can count) and therefore one's anima/animus is simply an unconscious and opposite reflection of the tapestry of masculine and feminine that live in the conscious self. So, integration of the two would still create a syzygy of masculine and feminine in consciousness, but the way the two are separated into conscious and unconscious before integration is unique to every individual. I don't think that, just because someone is gender non-conforming, it means they are struggling with anima/animus possession - the duality of opposites between their masculine and feminine might simply have a different boundary, and not all of the masculine and feminine traits fall on opposite sides of the coin. Just my thoughts!

I just really want to add that there is another KZbinr who has connected the Anima with the right brain hemisphere. The silent personality inside of you that gives you inspiration and can only communicate with your conscious self in dreams and visions. We are all actually and literally two people/personalities. I don’t know if you’ve researched the hemisphere topic but I find it extremely fascinating that this would be vessels anima from where he accesses this creativity. The same KZbinr called our brains “magic jelly” and I’m using that term forever now. I believe if there is anything beyond the physical, then the right brain is the only part with access to it.

Imagery of the cockroach. Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but Carl Jung started exploring synchronicity when he was doing some dream analysis with a woman in Switzerland who described a golden scarab, when one suddenly appeared on the window. This was a profound experience for Jung who believed it indicated synchronicity. As such I think it probably symbolises synchronicity in the song in some way.

Just gonna chime in my interpretation for Alkaline: “Acid nor alkaline” So water, true neutral, and again with the water theme in an album about drowning. He’s drowning in her neutrality. “Caught between day and night” Twilight. Another middle point that happens twice a day. The transition between union and separation. “Caught between black and white” Grey, another neutral. Light and dark. Given the songs name is “Alkaline” (or base in chemistry terms), mixed with the recurring theme of opposites making neutrals, when you add in the first two lines “Every once in a while something changes; and she’s changing me”. The song is about diluting yourself to match your love/obsession while never being able to become exactly like them

Wiping tears from my eyes writing this.... only discovered this incredible band this week! Your breakdown of their work had me laying my hands on my chest to soothe my soul as it was being seen and heard. I have PTSD from being a police officer and working in the child abuse unit, interviewing the children and historical abuse of adults. As this work was very traumatising I kept it a secret for 20 years. Not telling anyone about the traumas I experienced. They turned into my shadow self, coming out in self loathing behaviours. It’s only now after seeing a therapist that the shadow has shown ‘himself’. I always thought he was sabotaging my happiness by creeping in intrusive thoughts, terrifying images. But after doing some Journalling exploring who this shadow was and what they wanted from me was life changing. As the song Ascension describes, he is there as my friend...all along...helping me find the path to my mental freedom. I resonate with Vessel and the torture of the shadow. It’s tormenting ways. Silent and loud together! This is a long post, but I truly hope those that hold trauma ‘inside’ will only destroy you....slowly. May Sleep Token be therapy for you all. Thank you for reading and know you are not alone and there is light.....so much light xxx

I'll share more upon the video's end, but for now I'll take a guess at the cockroach symbolism here. Couple of things worth noting with that. Firstly, it could be an interpretation of possession feeling like a lingering infestation that you thought was dealt with, but in reality the root of the issue is still present, cus you haven't found it yet. So naturally it's gonna crop up again. Note how dingy the room the women reside in looks too, the deeply neglected and let go state it's in. That to me says there's a glaringly obvious problem that isn't being addressed, and the lyrics only imply that things are only about to worsen in hindsight. Secondly, cockroaches are said to be able to survive nuclear fallout and the initial blast of a bomb. This could mean that Vessel is a survivor of sorts, or perhaps that he's in survival mode in this relationship with Sleep. There is a gun present all throughout the video, and by the end it does see a usage. Finally, the specific cockroaches used are one of two species(specifically Dubias) commonly used as 'feeders' for various arachnids like tarantulas or scorpions. Which is interesting, considering all the discussion of jaws, teeth, biting, flesh, etc. And I say that, because tarantulas and their close cousins spiders, among the several symbolic meanings they have in dreams, can represent a negative/toxic female relationship in your life. Maybe that last part is stretching a bit, maybe it isn't, but I present it anyway. As for me personally, for now just know you have the perspective of a witch who's recently dove into shadow work as well alongside divination through tarot and/or Seiðr, and being a music witch(I know the spelling is wrong, but I don't have Nordic letters atm on pc...update: fixed it now.). My start having been in crystal magic, thanks to my Mother. Hmm, well I was gonna wait until the end, but now you've mentioned Like That, and I'm now realizing why my Shadow has been enjoying this one a lot lately. Note, my own relationship with mine isn't anything adversarial these days. If anything, its a mutual protective, empathetic bond/understanding. I'm wondering if my Shadow is concerned about something again. My temper is very much indictive of my sun sign, Aries, but it also has a rather frighteningly vindictive streak. That streak has often left me hating myself in the past, and admittedly, I still struggle with those feelings if it gets bad enough. Perhaps after a recent outburst my Shadow felt the need to check in/remind me of things. Course Like That and Descending have been contributing to my creative endeavors recently too, wonder if my work has gotten her curiosity. Course I say things like I wonder, and get an affirmative feeling in response. A witch's intuition everybody. Anyways, now to see what you've got to say about Descending, should it come up. Oh well, Are You Really Ok is bound to be mentioned at least, certainly excited to know about it more. That's become a favorite of mine and my Shadow's as well. Knew it, but yeah this one is intimate for me too. My Shadow and I went through all three albums a week ago actually(minus the EPs honestly didn't know about em), and the journey was honestly a lovely one. Are You Really Ok in particular, was a mutual declaration of empathy and pleading from and for us both. I've even used this song when performing Seiðr or reading tarot. Music has become spells for me these days, and Sleep Token's entire library feels more than made for it. Seeing your video thus far is all the more validation of my identity in witchcraft as a whole. Whether I go Solitary like usual for me, or tend to the coven I accidentally made in my friend group lol. Consider your question answered early btw lol. Beyond what I've stated though, I suppose my views of my general health, body type, and at least three familial relationships spring to mind as well. There's certainly days where I've verbally cursed out my body over the health I'm stuck with. Hyperthyroidism, Vaginismus, and Tourette's(wasn't diagnosed officially, but my Dad was early on and I've showcased symptoms as long as I can recall) specifically. Seriously the amount of random moments of bamboozlement it gives me just piss me off or simply confuse/annoy me. I often use humor to better manage those particular feelings, bit of the self deprecating sort. I've always had an acceptance of my Tourette's as being part of me, at worst I get annoyed these days. Anger at it only really happened when I was a teen. The Vaginismus has reached a similar level of acceptance, it only really gets under my skin when I have exams, not going into any further details for obvious reasons. As for my body type, which comes from my Hyperthyroidism actually, I didn't used to have issues with it. It was just normal when I was growing up, no one said anything, showed concern over my weight, until I was 21 and got my first exam(do not ask why it took so long for me to start those pls and thank you). Doc asked if I wanted a blood test, cus my bmi was so low, forget the exact numbers. Just know I was under 90lbs at the time. Anyways I agreed, and found out that I had Vaginismus through the exam and received the other diagnosis from the blood test a week later. This explained why I have an underdeveloped looking body type, why I'm an adult loli, a body type currently being demonized as being unrealistic or pedo bait. It's hard hearing that so often now, you have no idea how much I've come to despise those who say such things, even if I can understand why. Imma quit talking about this for now though, this has gotten quite long already, and my Shadow is growing angry alongside me. Better simmer down and get back to watching, Sleep Token is a mutual calm for use both after all. Ok nice and calm now, and I've reached the end. Not much else to add though, beyond that I and my Shadow are happy for this video. If you or anyone in your audience has some questions for me, feel free to ask away.

I love that you acknoledge that Sleep is "the most real god", or at least the most real god Vessel has connection to at the moment. Our soul/ anima/animus is that which ocupies that realm, so creating an integrated relationship with that part of our Self brings us much closer to the God/s.

I can't express what i want to say becuase I dont have the words to do so. Ive been watching this video for 3 days now and i can only get 15mins each time not due to lack of quality, but its because you will bring up a subject or an idea that I hate hearing because it resonates in a way I don't feel comfortable with. Its too accurate, "Who tf is this guy and what makes him able to 'talk' to me so I understand more than just words?". I'm also on the spectrum (high-functioning Asperger's) I've been dealing with conflicting feelings about what it means to me and how to improve my mental state with this variable at play. You made a mention in Calcutta "... without his love, missing that part of himself, the feminine animating energy for his creativity, his inspiration, his intuition" I met someone who brought that drive for those "feminine energies" and I was happy, I felt whole. I need to learn more about this so I can understand what is going on. I'm grateful that this new idea for me is being presented in my favorite band who I listen to for the "story" . Im sorry for the long rant of a comment but I needed to say the quiet part out loud for my sake. Thank you for this.

I appreciate the long comment because to me, that is you sorting out and making order of unconscious contents. Often, we require the space to hear (see) our thoughts/ concepts out to see if they build a more united & cohesive worldview. Once we have a spontaneous “linking” of unconscious contents it returns back to the Self and integrates into who we are. Fascinating stuff isn’t it?

Great video. I too wondered about some of the sporadic fluctuations in song placement within the albums. I think this is indicative of what Jung called feeling-toned-complexes. In some sense, the ambivalent structure of the process of individuation, like the unconscious, is messy and chaotic, particularly with the affective influence which the Anima has on man. In this respect, to try and enforce semblance and order on the material is ultimately futile. As Jung said about the shadow "It cannot be argued out of existence or rationalized into harmlessness". What's also interesting is that the age of aquarius aligns with the age of the divine feminine, with which we are currently in, or approaching. We only have to look at current events to see the influence of this from the collective unconscious. Just my thoughts, thanks for sharing

Bravo! Gorgeous text you’ve presented. It is very human of us to attempt to create order and meaning out of such unconscious chaos isn’t it?

Interesting! I always related it to the 7 hermetic principles. ❤ This is a good ride too! Love me some Jung.

This is the next layer that I will be exploring in another video. I wanted so badly to bring the 7 Hermetic Principles but wanted to keep it through the lens of Jung.

I have avoided this video until I felt I was able to take in the meaning of what was actually being said... Integrating the shadow is much more complicated than most realise and that's where intuition comes in, always it is within the subconscious wherein most answers are found.... I am still finding what it is that I'm avoiding within, but maybe that just means that I am not ready to take it in....

Wow that's an interesting comment. What was it inside you that felt you weren't ready to receive?
