Animal Crossing Tragic Story

The most saddening bit for me of this story I realised after watching it a few times is this person's mother was homebound with illness and the game from what I've read let's you do normal day to day activities which the mother was not able to do and most likely wanted to do with her family.

I know its been years but all these comments are annoying me. If you've actually played the game, you'd know that even though the character does occasionally get letters from their in-game mom or dad, the mother in the story is using the letter sending feature that allows letter communication between different players to send her own letters with presents to her son. There's no big DEBUNK here. It's just how she chose to use the letter feature.

This was just so sad. I literally cried my eyes out. This really does snap you back to reality to make you realize that the world just isn't about games. Family is more important than anything in the world. I am 19 now, and have been an animal crossing fan ever since I was a little girl. I am deeply sorry for your loss, and will pray for you! My mother also LOVES animal crossing and this story really had effected me. Thank you for sharing your story for I am sure it had opened up ALOT of eyes.

Y'know, this might be a coincidence, but I have the same story as well. I showed my aunt Animal Crossing City Folk, she was in her 20's and like your mother, she was into it. She had lupus cancer and she stopped playing somewhere in the summer of 2012. She somehow got this in 2009-2010-ish, and she passed away between February and March this year. When I booted my game again, same story as you: weeds, etc. She sent me tons of presents. If she were here, thanks Lanein.

A friend told me this story on the way back home... reading it now makes me really upset...but knowing that there's people out there without a mother makes me appreciate my mother a lot more. GUYS! Yes mom is a character in the game BUT if you pay attention she had her own avatar in the game therefore she can actually send letters to him! And even if it is fake (I still don't think it is though) it still teaches a lesson!

There are real stories similar to this one. There is the real story of a father and his son playing racing games in order to bond. Many years later, the father died of cancer. And eventually, the son had to clear out his "man cave" in the garage. And there he found the videogames (PS2 and Gamecube games). He hooked up the consoles and started playing some of the racing games that he had played with his father using the memory cards. That's when he discovered that many of the tracks had the "ghost" car of his dad. And he remembered then that back in the days they had a competition where his dad would try his best time on the tracks and he (the son) was supposed to beat them. He never could beat them. So all the best times that were saved on the games where of his dad. So here he was crying his eyes out as he raced alongside a ghost car that his dad had maneuvered many years ago when he was alive. It was a testament of his love for his son.

My mom has MS too and she used to play this before she became fully paralyzed. My brother still has all the gifts and letters she sent him. She used to use the stylus (we had the DS AC) to play since she couldn't use her fingers to push buttons. Fishing was her favorite hobby. I can relate to this story so much.

This story connects with me on such a deep level. My mom also has MS & used to play the DS animal crossing because she could use the stylus. She would always send me letters saying she loves me and she'd send some to my brother too. I always kept them. Now her MS has gotten very bad and she can't do anything, but whenever I see this video or hear the story, I think of my mom.

Though it was an automatic message, but reading something sent a long while ago from a person who had passed, is a hurtful feeling that neither i can describe n u just wanna go back to the time n wished u played everything is different. My mom died of cancer in 2004. I remember a week after she died I found the christmas presents she bought me since she died right before Christmas. I showed my aunt and she burst into tears because my mom and her spent the 3 days before going into the hospital finding me that. My aunt having to hold her up while looking. She was sent into the hospital before she could even wrap it. thinking about this broke my heart.

This comic really hits home for me. It reminds me of my own Mother. When I was a little kid, I became deaf. My Mom knew I was suffering just trying to understand what people were saying to me. She didn't teach me to use sign language. Instead, she introduced me to Sonic the Hedgehog, the first Video Game I ever played. Within it, I learned trial and error. Basically, I have my Mom to thank for my interest in Video Games. My hearing eventually came back.

The letter he shows is an exact message from the in-game mother. He also mentions how they all sounded pretty much the same. The game would have kept mailing him even if he wasn't playing because his mother was playing and she played long after he quit it seems. I hate to say it, but they probably were from his in-game mother and he probably forgot there even was one. I'm fairly certain his real mother would realize he wasn't playing anymore.

What's sad is that despite having multiple sclerosis, being progressively disabled - physically and mentally, stuck in a wheelchair inside her house, she still made an effort to provide for her children in whatever way she could. I know that she wasn't ACTUALLY "providing" for them, but she probably had a lot of alone time to herself (before it got really bad) while everyone went on with their lives, and this was one way she could 'help' her children, given her state.

i just had an argument with my mom over something that was kinda trivial, didn,t even tell her goodnight as she went to bed. After watching this, i immediately ran to her room, gave her a big hug and a kiss and told her sorry, goodnight and that i love her. Arguments are a normal thing and happen in all families, but don't let it ruin your relationship with your loved ones. Love them while they're still here.

My father passed suddenly when I was a troubled teenager, I never thought I would need to hurry into loving either of my parents, and he was gone.. I slowly matured and finally went to my siblings, I told them one of my biggest regrets was my never telling Dad how much I loved him, and that before Mom dies, I will tell her.....we finally did lose Mom, I had been able express my love for her and thank her for all that she ever did. I think he would know the difference between the Mom the game sets you up with, and his actual mom. His mom probably had a character name, and even if she did, she could change the bottom name to mom. Plus, the "Love, Mom" letters had random things on it. He said his mom said pretty much the same thing every time.

Doesn't make the story any less sad. As a writer, I can see that retrospectively, even without thinking about the game mechanics, the story is sad. How she sent the letters and such. That being said, you would probably know this game than I do (I have not played AC ), it would be a coincidence that the presents/letters automatically sent reflected what had happened. In simplicity, everything (including the automated presents/letters) was fatefully arranged for the story to unfold.
