Did you know many characters across the entire Animal Crossing franchise have been named after people that really exist. From Animal Crossing on the gamecube, through Wild World on the DS, even City Folk Wii, and New Leaf 3DS, and also New Horizons on the Switch, Animal crossing villagers have had unique reasoning behind their names.

Quick correction so no one gets it wrong on their history exams: Anmundsen was the first to reach the south pole, but he didn't discover Antarctica. That happened nearly a hundred years earlier. I don't even play NH but my favourite reference character has to be Marlo. Brandon stuffed cotton balls in his cheeks for that performance, so having him as a hamster villager is just perfect.

Another thing about Gloria the duck, in Pocket camp, theres a little thing that pops up in the loading screen that says "somehow, she got it in her head that shes actually a swawn. So just play along ok?" So that might be spot on.

this one is a fictional character rather than an actual person, but the villager Pierce may be named after the character Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce from the popular tv show MASH, as Pierce in game's catchphrase is Hawkeye, and the tennis sweater he wears in New Horizons was a popular style around the 1950s, which is the time period the show MASH is based on.

To my best guess, this is due to a picture circulating that was just a steak knife stabbing a bottle of ranch dressing. One person was very confused and didn't get the joke, and everyone was like "nobody tell them" and now we celebrate the Ides of March.

elvis is my favorite villager so i do wanna add that the favorite saying is his old one - in the newer games, his favorite saying is "better a live coward than a dead hero" which, to me, tries tying him in with the cowardly lion from the wizard of oz weirdly enough.

Cyrano is one of my favorites. But my favorite villager, Melba, is partially named after Nellie Melba. Melba is from both Melbourne and Melba toast, which was named after Nellie Melba. Oh and speaking of normal koalas, Alice was named after Alice Springs, which was named after Alice, Lady Todd. Sydney was also named after Sydney, which was named for Thomas Townsend, 1st Viscount Sydney.

this is kinda sad but I got teddy on my island when I 2ndly started animal crosssing(I deleted my previous game on accident and got sad and hated they game for a year). My old dog was named teddy so to just see an islander that has the same name as my old dog was so heartwarming to me and he is my favorite islander now. I have a his picture ilh so much.

The bear Klaus. It isn't obvious, you need to know several things first. 1. In this case, Klaus isn't the abbreviation of Nicholas, but of Claudius. 2. There was a roman imperator, Claudius, who was head of the state from the year 41 to 54. His son was the definitely more widely known emperor Nero. Now you know why he is wearing a toga. Speaking of people of the antiquity: Ankha's german name is Kleo (after Kleopatra VII)

Small nitpick - but Benjamin Franklin didn't actually suggest the turkey as America's national animal. Rather, he was objecting to the idea of the bald eagle as the national animal, as he believed it to "be a bird of bad character." He was basically saying "if we're going to pick something as bad as the bald eagle then we might as well just make it a turkey." He's still associated with turkeys because of it, so I think it's a fitting name regardless! Plus, I can't be the only one who thinks Franklin the turkey and Franklin the Founding Father share at least a passing resemblance, right? 😆

Roald Amundsen wasn't the first to explore it, far from it. The British have been in Antarctica years before he ever set foot. In fact, when Roald was in Antarctica, the British and Japanese had their own expeditions going on at the same time. So, yeah not the first to explore it.
