I doubt you'll find someone who just loves all animals indistinctly. Consider that humans are animals too, for example. A lot of animal lovers also have no issues killing bugs, and hate mosquitos and flies. It's all subjective. I feel "animal lover" in general is an incorrect term to use. Obvious logic says animal lovers enjoy being around other animals. Of course they WANT them to be in their habitats, but if you are out in their habitat and encounter one, you ENJOY it. If you could be around a bunch of animals all the time and you love animals, you'd love it, hence the zoo phrase and the obvious assumption that he isn't being literal can be made

People are allowed to have phobias, but to dislike some animals just because they're not cuddly is just plain ignorant, superficial, and shows lack of curiousity. All natural creatures are fascinating and beautiful in their own way. No one is saying she had to touch any of the animals, but at least show interest and ask questions. Not many people have the opportunity to be up close to these animals, so I think real animal lovers were offended by her reaction

What's wrong with skunks? There have been skunks bred for pets for more than fifty years. Sadly, in most states, you can't own a domesticated skunk. And they also remove their scent glands when they're young, which seems a bit cruel to me, but I've heard domesticated ones make good pets.
