Animal testing is when non-human animals are used in experiments. Animals can be tested on in numerous different experiments, including to determine the toxicity of chemicals, as well as whether or not products are suitable for humans. In this video we will look at both sides of the argument, examining why certain people think animal testing should happen, and why others staunchly oppose it. The arguments for and against animal testing have been put into 3 groups, ethical arguments, arguments about efficiency, and arguments about the cost of animal testing.

Let’s start with ethical arguments, by far the most popular type of argument used to defend or attack animal testing. Firstly we need to understand what an ethical argument is. Ethics concerns what is morally right and wrong, so ethical arguments for or against animal testing focus on whether or not it is morally right or wrong, Proponents of Animal Testing argue that it is morally right as it has helped with the development of many life-saving treatments for both humans and animals. Opponents of animal testing argue on the other hand that it is cruel and inhumane to the animals and that there are often alternative methods that could be used to test products’ suitability for humans. There is also the moral argument that animal testing is acceptable because animals are inferior to humans, they lack sentience and reason and have historically been considered inferior throughout many different times and cultures. Opponents of animal testing say that this argument does not speak to the benefits of animal testing, instead it attempts to justify humans causing harm and suffering to other animals, simply for the sake of it.
Animal testing can also be justified or criticised on grounds of efficiency. Efficiency means getting the most out of something, not wasting resources.Proponets of animal testing argue that animals are very close to humans when it comes to DNA, organs etc. meaning that testing on them provides insight into humans. However, opponents would argue that we are not that similar to the animals that are tested on, we are bigger, have different skeletons, etc, making testing on them a waste of the animals’ lives. Plus, opponents would also argue that tests on animals do not always reliably predict results in humans, meaning some drugs that harm animals help humans, and some that harm humans, do not harm animals, again furtherng the argument that animal testing is inefficient
The final group of arguments for or against animal testing concerns cost. In terms of Cost, opponents of animal testing argue that it is a waste of money as the results are not necessarily predctive of results in humans, and the same tests can be done for cheaper via stem cells and synthetic organs for example. Proponents argue on the other hand that animal testing saves money as it avoids lawsuits and the cost of drugs having to be remade if they fail human trials.
Overall it seems that Animal testing is favoured by some because they think it helps save lives. By testing on a living organism before humans it helps speed up the process of producing new drugs for patients. On the other hand, opponents of animal testing question whether animal testing is really worth the pain and suffering it causes to animals, as it is expensive, not always reliable, and has many different alternatives. I'm a former employee at two different research facilities that used animals. Research using animals is like terrorism in that terrorists hide psychotic urges behind religious and political beliefs, while researchers who inflict pain and death on animals hide their psychotic urges behind scientific beliefs and career status. I personally think that if humans need to do testing to see if something works it should be used on people that’s willing to go three with it. Cause think of it this way if a human wanted to get in space they would send a human willing to risk their lives and testing cures on humans is no different. Unfortunately there is no way of treating those animals well in laboratories, for I read about monkeys exposed to tests are not given water at all until they obey with testing. Then water is their reward. So these poor animals comply with pain just in order to get water. Dogs/cat get blind and handicapped so are the mouses and rabbits. No good is coming out of that…

I'm about to express my OPINION. I think animal testing is acceptable as long as it remains humane and there are no other EASY ways to obtain the desired information. Yes, it may be a little sad to watch but we have to discover and learn new information somehow. As someone has already said, lots of ground-breaking, life-saving things have been constructed from animal testing such as anesthesia, the heart-lung machine, organ transplants, skin grafting, joint replacement, insulin treatment for diabetes, dialysis for kidney failure and most cancer therapies. Also, I REALLY enjoyed the video btw!

Personal opinion. I honestly think that animal testing is justified. If you think about it, we need a way to test out how vaccines will work with humans. What’s the closet’s thing to that? Animals. Rats, mice, hamsters, share similar dna structures to human. One of the biggest contributors to clinical trials is if it is safe for human. I think it’s important to test beforehand. Hence the animal testing. It would allow us to look at what would we need to change. Many disagree that it is inhumane. I see that, as long as that animal is being researched and being laid to rest after, there is no problem. Lab rats a bred specifically for these testings. A big question I would like to ask is, if not animals, would you prefer humans? Either way the new substance would need to be tested regardless. I’m pretty sure that most people wouldn’t be too keen on the idea of being tested on. What other alternative would you suggest if not animals bred specifically for research?

If it can affect animals too/ if it's meant for animals/ then I can see where you're coming from but if people want to find a cure for our own kind then it only makes sense to test it on us. If people who are financially struggling to afford treatment for something then I bet they would most likely be on board with getting tested on if it's for free. Also there is an argument that convicts (rap*sts, ped0s, abusers etc) could be tested on for products such as beauty products and whatnot instead due to the fact that innocent animals don't deserve to have products tested on them that are not even made for them. Not to mention how they also got sent to space and many of them died because of humans. This is just my opinion and honestly I just hate how humans are always dependent on animals for everything because it is totally unfair to them🤧

There are convicts and megalomaniac politicians. And there's also another alternative which is not doing research that could be harmful to any living being. And if we can not supress our intelectual curiosity, well then, we (the ones doing the research) should be the ones taking the risk. That much more responsable than taking someone who got nothing to do with our urges. Think of it this way. You're walking in the street, minding your own business. Unbeknownst to you, there are a couple of guys watching you with the intention of kidnapping you to take your organs. Well, you may think of them as horrible people, but lets's say that they want your organs to help save the life of a child. Maybe the child of some big shot, politician, mobters, whatever, but a child. And let's say that they forget about the kidnapping thing and just stop you to tell you the situation, would you accept? It's a child, you know. Do you see the problem, now? It's not only unethical but also illogical. You see, people can put all the excuses they want, but the truth is: we do experimentation with animals because we can. There's an alternative, but we won't do such a thing because it would be controversial and most people don't have the guts to do it anyway. We humans are total pieces of shit, we should admit it and own it. Or we can just keep being hypocrital about it to protect our ego. Theoretically speaking, we do have the alternative of maturing and accepting the reality that everything shouldn't go our way, people die and suffer, that's life. But that's totally unrealistic for we are absolute irresponsable cowards (that's how we make it to the top {whatever that is}). So yeah, better keep being hyprocrital pieces of shit.

Every year more than 100 million animals die because of animal testing in just the U.S. They are confined to barren cages, socially isolated, and psychologically traumatized. Things we wouldn't have without animal testing: anesthesia, the heart-lung machine, organ transplants, skin grafting, joint replacement, insulin treatment for diabetes, dialysis for kidney failure, most cancer therapies. To name a few.

@@deadaccountignore5566 There are alternatives to animal testing just look at cell cultures and using in vitro using human stem cells. Animal Testing is outdated and the funding it gets from tax payers dollars mind you needs to go toward funding toward alternatives using the 3 R’s to models that are more similarly structured to that of humans. 3D bio printing is a thing now too.

You would be surprised how much money goes toward animal testing. It’s expensive with most testing failing in preclinical trials. Better to go to school than to be close minded to the future of not using animals in drug testing.
