Buddy gave me a small black painted foothold trap . Its a longspring style. Its really touchy and hard to set it. I need to learn to set it. I do set it but i just use luck to keep it closed as when I move my hand from the pad it sets up half the times or snaps . I want to use it for gophers as its a smaller one but it does have a strong spring. It breaks pencils.

Nice, if the trap is touchy the dog may be to worn or there may be wax on the trap making it slippery, i find the easiest way to set the longspings is breaking them over the knee method, go to youtube and find meat trappers video on longspring vs coilspring traps, he will show you the "breaking over knee" method for setting longsprings.
