My grandpa always had turkey vultures nesting in his barn and he donated the land that he lived on to a wildlife and forest conservation organization when he died so that the land and all those turkey vultures would continue to be protected and cared for

These guys are very smart. In Mississippi a flock would hangout in the trees in my yard. I would occasionally give them any leftover meat. One afternoon I heard a light knocking on the door. I open it and one of them was standing there just looking up at me waiting for food. This turned into a almost daily routine. Then I deployed to Iraq when I got back I didn't see them for almost a month, then randomly I heard the knocking again. After a year of this they just stopped showing up, I hope they just moved away and nothing happened to them.

She seems like quite the character. She was doing everything from preening, to yawning and even demonstrated Bitey Gwen when you mentioned it by snapping in your direction. I'm glad she has caregivers who have the knowledge and experience to deal with her different behaviors. Hopefully as time goes on you two will develope a strong trust bond.

Have you heard the one about the Kansas turkey vulture who got tired of eating roadkill? He flew away to see if he could find something else, but didn't, and when he got back and asked what was for dinner, his mom said, "Carrion, my wayward son".

I once saw turkey vultures flying like 15 feet overhead, which is quite low for them. Turns out, our trail was very near a cliff with fantastic views, so they were about 75 feet above the lake, which made more sense. Another time I slowly drove past one eating roadkill in a neighborhood, expecting it to hop away or fly off, but it didn't, we just kept an eye on each other as it continued eating, like four feet away from my passenger door as I crept past.

Seraphina is doing great! She's still living in the fox enclosure with the dirt floor. Gwen moved into the old raven enclosure. It was open because the ravens moved into one of the yard spaces attached to the Beaver House where there's more space for the two of them to cohabitate happily.

HELP ME!!! 😭 I have a black vulture that came here, over the summer. Before that, a raven. A leather tether attached still, to it's leg. Someone is raising/ keeping these illegal birbs, and has released a bunch of them around this area. I spent all summer making friends with the raven,in hopes of eventually catching him. I did it 2 weeks ago!💪👊 I finally caught that raven! 😂🤪 He's safe and sound in a local birb rehabilitation center. Thank God. Now Ive gotta catch this vulture, and do same. Except..... I'm in love with him!! How do I get legal, to keep him?? I know it's crazy, and a lot of work, but I CAN do it. I WANT to! He'll never fly again. 99% sure. Whoever did this to these birds, broke his one wing, while clipping the feathers. I can maybe see ravens, but WHY a VULTURE?? Why would someone do this to a VULTURE?? Or ANY animal, for that matter? 😭 Pure evil. I'll get him to the sanctuary, if I must, but winter is closing in. And I'm in love with him. I wanna keep him around, if he wants to stay. Any help here, anything at all, please, contact me at MuddyCreekMountainMuse@gmail.com. Thank you. God bless. 🙏❤️🔥😘

Hello Gwendolyn! I live in a retirement village and always wonder (humorously) at the large number of Turkey Vultures and Black Vultures that frequently circle over our golf courses. Hmmm. She might look ok in a broad-brimmed "Church-lady" hat, but PLEASE do not fit her with a toupee or wig -- that would just be wrong!! :)

@@animalwondersmontana there's something about a toddler-sized, flying dinosaur, grim reaper bird of death that just doesn't sit right with me lol. I'd rather cuddle a King Cobra 🙃🤣
@catzkeet48603 жыл бұрын
@@curtism-w6b it's a bit unfair to call then "birds of death" The vulture didn't kill the animal usually. In fact they're doing us a favour by cleaning up dead animals so they're not rotting away everywhere. Vultures are incredibly important to the ecosystems they're a part of, and are harmless to humans. I get that you said its an "irrational fear" It's sad you have that, but don't let fear make you ascribe motives to animals that simply aren't true.
@curtism-w6b3 жыл бұрын
@@catzkeet4860 I didn't say killer birds. I said birds of death. Death calls them in. That said, vultures do sometimes kill prey. Turkey vultures, almost never. Black vultures will kill small animals and all the way up to calves and lambs.
