One small correction, the fire thing is actually pretty normal for oil rigs. It's a way to burn off certain waste products that can't be used or stored safely which are also gained while extracting oil.

@kristinahuchison25112 ай бұрын
@@tatsudragneel4761same thing with Frozen. Personally I find Frozen severely overrated and never got why it blew up in popularity. I remember watching it and being pretty disappointed by how insanely popular it was. The main reason it was such a big hit?? Disney heavily promoted Let It Go, which is a very similar song like Part of Your World which is what made the Little Mermaid a huge success and made Ariel one of the most popular Disney characters. Let it Go was literally what made the writers decide to make Elsa a tragic and misunderstood hero instead of the villain, considering the Snow Queen in the original novel is the villain. I don’t hate Cars or anything, and do find the story with Radiator Springs and Doc Hudson adorable, but the reason why I don’t particularly like the franchise as a whole is because how unlikable Lightning is for half the movie. He’s literally an egotistical jerk who constantly makes fun of Mater and the other characters behind their backs and constantly complains about having to fix the mess he made. It just makes me uninterested in Lightning’s redemption and learning humbleness and stop making fun of others

Also, the ending REALLY bothered me too. It made no goddamn sense at all. A car that was for using traditional fossil fuels and against new alternatives sought to make an alternative fuel look bad... after INVENTING the alternative fuel himself. What if he just, oh, I don't know...didn't fucking invent it to begin with! I could see if, like, his twin brother or another car was inventing it to replace fossil fuels, and he had the inventor kidnapped or killed to pose as the inventor himself so he could sabotage it, but since NOBODY else was coming up with competition for fossil fuels, then why invent an alt. to sabotage at all?
@someanimedweebiamsure70712 жыл бұрын
You’re missing the point. The whole point of Axelrod inventing Allinol was to create a supposed alternative fuel, then sabotage the racers using said “alternative” fuel in an attempt to make alternative fuel look bad/dangerous, leading everyone else to turn back to gasoline, turning to the lemons, who possess the world’s largest untapped oil reserves, getting rich after all their years of mistreatment from society.

I do agree that Cars 2, Planes, and Planes 2 were not necessary, but I have to disagree with you, because I think that the original Cars was a great movie. The story was complex and not as simple as many OTHER movies, and the characters were all diverse, having flaws and perfections. For example, Lightning was a memorable character because all he was focused on was his own personal gain, not caring about the needs of others, but learns that life isn't all about winning. This theme developed over time, not just in the blink of an eye, which is good because that would show laziness and lack of story from the writers. The movie also shined at providing a surreal world in which the characters lived in, which did carry over to the next movies, also with it's great animation and scenery. Not to mention it had one of the greatest third party movie Wii games of all time...

"Why does this movie exist?" Because they wanted a guaranteed profit that would have kids everywhere buying toys based on their movie. It was made to be a financial success, not an artistic one. It did exactly what it was meant to do, and it no doubt helped immensely in funding their other films. People who get mad over this movie REALLY miss the point. Not every movie sets out to be an artistic masterpiece for the whole family. It makes me really sad that this movie was shit in the end. It had such a great concept that I would have enjoyed very much. I loved the fact that they made cars talk and they had an entire realm of cars all of different makes and models.
@VGamingJunkieVT6 жыл бұрын
At least Cars 3 turned out fairly well, in my opinion. They learned not to overuse Mater, the times he's actually used are actually done well, and it focuses on McQueen struggling to stay relevant. It's an interesting twist where the stubborn young jackass in the first movie is now aging and out of his prime, so to speak.
@Ergeniz6 жыл бұрын
I think Cars 3 was horrible as well. Also, the supposed message was broken at the end anyway. Frankly, I don't see how even the first cars got so popular other than the fact its animated and children tend to be very indiscriminate about what they watch in regards to that.
@KeybladeMasterAndy6 жыл бұрын
Tech Romancer That's just it, though. The movie is not all that popular. I mean, I really like it and I liked the third, but neither really made waves at the box office. The overwhelming majority of the franchises success comes from the merchandising, as Mt. Enter pointed out. If anything, the movies are popular to...not necessarily hate, but dislike.
@Ergeniz6 жыл бұрын
Makes sense. You see I work in retail, and I can't tell how much merchandise we're bombarded with that has Cars slapped all over it. Or Minions. I don't really follow box office stats, so I did assume that all the merchandising correlated with that. Which was pretty stupid of me.
@Ergeniz6 жыл бұрын
In anycase, I've always thought Cars was one of Pixars most underwhelming and bland franchises ever. I never got the appeal of it, nor what exactly it was trying to get across. Even if I was a kid, I don't see why I would be interested in the toys, either. They're just cars with a face on them - that's it. Its utterly unimaginative.

"If people aren't taking you seriously, then they need to change." Okay, I actually don't hate this movie like most people do, but that line made me furious the first time I heard it. "Be yourself" does not mean "act however you want during any situation." You should be able to discipline yourself during certain situations. If not, you present yourself as someone who shouldn't be in the situation and people naturally don't take you seriously. But according to this movie, those people are just ignoramuses.

the moral of the film is this: do not let the opinions of others, changes the idea that you have of yourself. No "be idiot in every situations is okay!!1!1!"
@ShadyDoorags8 жыл бұрын
Luci & Ombre The movie states it's moral outloud, which I quoted in my OP, and it is completely wrong in the context it's being used in. Mater was not only publicly embarrassing during a professional event, but he was actively causing Lightning to lose the race because he had no forethought of his actions, which to Lightning looked like he was just playing around. When people screw up and present themselves as a screw up, if that's not how they want to be seen, then they need to do something about how they are acting and how they're presenting, not the people reacting naturally to them.
@luciombre77948 жыл бұрын
It's true. Mater was wrong. He took too lightly the situation, and his behavior has humbled the person he loved most in the world, Lightning. The point is that he realized he was wrong. ( "Idiot? That's how you see me?" "It's like everyone seeing you"). When McQueen apologized and said to him "now, be spontaneous", he didn't say "now do the idiot again", but " I am your friend, and I know you're not just a fool. Believe in your abilities. " The contest isn't wrong, for me. it's normal: for live well in the society, everyone needs to change a little its own character, and this, Mater understands it, but changing totally or starting to hate yourself for the opinions of others, no. It's wrong. This is just my point of view. And, sorry for my english!

One of the most insulting things about this is that the "moral" of the story ("If people aren't taking you seriously, then THEY need to change!") sounds almost like it's aimed at the audience. "Yeah, we've put the most annoying character in the spotlight and even lowered his intelligence from the first movie. We're pretty much forcing you to laugh at him, so we can shake our fingers at you for doing so later. We're lacing the film with cultural jokes that are borderline offensive, all while we preach to your children about environmentalism and the evils of big business, even though we ourselves are a big business. And if you don't like what we're doing, well, YOU need to change!"

Cars 2 and Hoodwinked 2 Pros and Cons differences Cars 2 Pros: -Very Detailed Backgrounds -Charater movements and texture move more realistically - Takes full advantage of its spy angel - more locations than the first one - Plot is less generic. Cons: - Main Character is not very intresting - Some Scenes do not connect to each other - Some actions to forward the plot is weak - WGP Racers are mostly stereotypes - Very Mean Villains for a Pixar film Hoodwinked 2 Pros: -Charather design is more easier to look at when compared to the first one. - Trys to continue its story form the first film, like a good sequel should Cons: - Lip Syncing is off most of the time - Bland Backgrounds - Old Charaters from the first one are either reduce to a pop culture Refrence, a running gag or redicliously dumbed down - New Charaters are more stupid than the original - Has pop culture references to *80's-90's RATED R films* (examples: Silence of the Lambs, Scarface, Goodfellas,ect) - Running Gags have a cruelty towards the charater they focus on - Does not take advantage of its spy angle - Story elements are either very stupid or make absolutely no sense, such as the build up to the Super Truffle - the most of the 2nd act is entirely pointless - Has a massive ego (Saying animation anylists have no life, saying Sequels of movies are better than books, calling food network the devil, Ect.) - several missed opportunities to forward the plot. The one I would rather watch is obviously Cars 2. Hoodwinked 2 was just a big complete sin in animation.

brightfamia I completely disagree. Shrek 4 at least was decent and had an interesting plot about Shrek in an alternate universe. Shrek the Third on the other hand was just painful to watch. I mean, it was built up in the trailers as this epic climatic showdown between him and Prince Charming, which I admit at the time thought it would be as awesome as Shrek 2, if not better. And what did we get instead? A mediocre plot at best about Shrek finding a whiny loser high school student to take the place of the deceased king. Not to mention it had the absolute worst climax to any fairytale story EVER. I mean, wow... when you actually have villains actually listening to someone about not having to choose to be evil as the way to save the day, that is as low as you can sink. At least to this movie's credit when Mater tried that exact same crap, the villains were smart enough to not fall for that. Maybe this was Pixar's way of mocking Dreamworks for daring to try something that asinine.

While I hesitate to defend a lukewarm, lackluster attempt of a movie, I would like to point out one speculation on Mr. Enter's point about Axelrod's engine. My guess is that the blue was supposed to be a surgical tarp. Seeing as an engine would be akin to a heart in the world of Cars, it seems likely that working on an engine would be treated as a surgical procedure. It doesn't change how many other cars are supposed to have that engine, and I certainly see why Mr. Enter had an issue with it, but I believe that's what they were going for.

In Mr.Btongue's excellent critique of the Mass Effect 3 ending, he mentions that many plots take the form of "We must stop blank." The entry for Cars 2 reads *"We must stop merchandising revenue from falling during FY2011."* Cars was ok, but this sequel was clearly just to make some more money. They don't actually have a story to tell, as they did with the first one. This is my great fear with Frozen 2.

DownwithMarx true but frankly the protagonist was really weak. It isn't a coincidence that most people prefer Elsa or thought Elsa was the protagonist at first. Long story short this movie is problematic but the good music and beautiful animation saved it, I don't think the sequel will make it though...
@DM_Dad8 жыл бұрын
Levi's Height Infires my Jams That's partly a pacing problem too. Elsa has the powers, is older and therefore becomes Queen, and the beginning is focused on her struggle to hide her power. She's also the one to go through the arc and really learn something. Anna just grows up a bit. It's actually a good example of the difference between "protagonist" and "main character."

The general view on the 1st Cars in 2006 is either okay or you can ignore it. It was just a small bump in Pixar's otherwise great reputation and in the 2000's, they were doing better than Disney who were losing a lot of money on a bunch of their animated films and didn't get better till towards the end of that decade.

Michael Caine also played Austin Powers' dad, which just makes the casting even funnier. I'm actually kind of disappointed they didn't make his character a mini minor in this movie as an in-joke. "Wait, your spy car is a mini?" "It's not the size, mate - it's how you use it!"

You know, i'm surprised someone else besides me and my mother actually remembered how good the Austin Powers Trilogy was! Thanks! And the hippie van did give me Austin Powers flashbacks.

0:03 To show that even the best animation studios aren't perfect. Pixar was bound to have a dud someday.

I haven't seen either of the Cars movies but two thing I can say just based on the reviews. If the world is populated by sentient cars why did dinosaurs still exist? Why are there Americans, British, Germans and Japanese and other human nationalities? Couldn't they invent at least some fictional names for different cultures even if they would have modeled them after real cultures? And why do cars make wasabi? I like the idea of KITT and Transformers but my suspension of disbelief doesn't apply to these cars.
@carlbloke87978 жыл бұрын
MsDjessa maybe the dinosaurs are cars like how there are tractor animals but yeah maybe the minivans can take the place of the Asians

The good news is, Finding Dory gave it a PG-rating for "mild thematic elements". In which, it is the the first G-rated franchise for the film to give it a PG-rating. I wish Toy Story 4 would be rated PG or G!

As someone else said in the comments, there is nothing wrong with making things just for money. The problem is making products that are poor in quality. You can't make something with little to no effort just to make money. It just doesn't work like that and will not make you successful in the long run. I have no problem with people who make quality stuff just for money. I have a problem with people who make awful stuff just for money. Even so, Pixar is a film company, not a toy company.

Another thing that's worth pointing out is the one car's mention of dinosaurs. How did they exist? Were there car dinosaurs? Did they ever think that through?

At 20:30 you mention that they couldn't kill off Mater in favor of toy sales. Bing Bong has a tragic death scene in Inside Out and they still got away with selling toys of him...which actually confuses me....also I really shouldn't be comparing Cars 2 and Inside Out, that's like comparing a shitty hotdog you bought at a gas station to a filet mignon.

5:40 Actually, that’s incorrect Enter. The sensation caused by wasabi/Japanese horseradish is not capsaicin-based, but rather from a more volatile form of allyl isothocyanate that can in fact be neutralized by water. Running to the closest water source, in this case, was indeed the smartest move Mater could have made to sate the spicy

Just saw another one of those "But its a kid movie!" comments. Being a kids movie isnt a excuse. The Lion King is a kids movie. Everything is made by adults, and should be able to appeal to all ages.
