Honestly, I think Cars 2 would be best as a spin off movie about Mater’s ultimate tall tale. It would have been hilarious if the end of the movie had McQueen saying the typical: “Mater that did not happen…but it was a super cool story.” And show Mater winning first prize for the best story during a Radiator Springs storytelling contest. There. The movie is somewhat “better.” Have Finn watching in the background and then flying away with Holly just to add the typical “Mater’s Tall Tales” spin on it too. The movie had potential but mixed too many plots at once. Cars should be about McQueen’s racing journey. Mater’s Tall Tales is…well…Mater’s Tall Tales. I firmly believe that someone wrote a fan fiction on Wattpad about Mater becoming an international spy just for shits and grins but then the story somehow made it to an employee at Pixar, who in turn pitched it to John Lasseter and Lasseter said “Well, we don’t seem to have any other ideas for a Cars sequel and we got a whole bunch of warehouses full of Cars merchandise to sell. F#%k it! Let’s just go with this!”
