Sir Embrum49 The Great Moth Actually they don’t change color to blend in, they do it to show their mood. And to attract mates. :-) But yes we need more reptile protagonists. Mammal-favoritism needs to stop!

@powerstar 2028 I agree. I also like the designs because, since I have mental fatigue in conjunction with autism, it helps me to get more projects done and make more time for other tasks when drawing with a similar style to that.

@powerstar 2028 Same here. I usually draw character sprites from a 90 degree overhead view (like in Hotline Miami) since that requires less frames of animation than the usual isometric 45-degree view. I want to make time for learning how to program a game when I get a better computer to do that on.

I don't think MrEnter quite knows what "Uncanny Valley" is. In order to be in the uncanny valley zone, a character must closely resemble a human being, but this resemblance must be slightly imperfect. This provokes feelings of uneasiness to the audience. A 4k textured 3D model of a face with a million polygons could be in the realm of the uncanny valley. Some cartoon insectoids with far apart eyes on the otherhand would not even be close.

I think I can see the idea for flies: With some design work, anything can be made cute. Heck, just remember Rufus the naked mole rat from Kim Possible. Have you seen those things in real life? And bugs being made cute isn't unheard of either. That said, the combination of cute designs plus pretty detailed explanation of how these anthropomorphic flies live... with very fly-like elements of gross/rotten food and other bodily features... yeah, nope. Edit: To The Buzz on Maggie's credit, the character designs are pretty cute indeed, even if some fit more in the "uglyu cute" definition. Still clashes with the "live like actual flies" setting.

This show came out at a time when I was avoiding Disney Channel like the plague because 90% of the programing was filled with crappy tween girl sitcoms, and movies that I wouldn't touch with a 50 foot pole. (As you can tell from my avatar, I'd rather watch old 'Disney Afternoon' shows than what Disney channel was cranking out at the time since I wasn't a tween girl, myself. So I was having NONE of that.) Having said that, you would think that 'The Buzz on Maggie' would be a fresh take on these tired old cliches just to stand out, and not be like all the other tween girls sitcoms. Unfortunately, the concept backfires with what else the bring to this series. To be fair, the bug characters look cute enough in a stylized sort of way, but incorporating the not so pleasant aspects of flies doesn't do the show any favors. That's why they never bring in too much information of what say Jiminy Cricket, or Zipper are suppose to eat. Also, Jimmy, and Zipper's character designs look much cuter than Maggie, and her friends. Which is how you make bug characters more accessible to your audience since they're not so pleasant looking in real life. (Or how 'Spider-Man' is less about spiders, and more about the struggles of Peter Parker's daily life.) Also, you should've inserted the fly near your hand, and have it bump into it instead of your chest. It looks more believable to the reaction you're trying to convey.

The main reason why The Buzz on Maggie turned out to be widely overrated is because it has is because it has stereotypes like the whiny main female character who is a bigger fan of stereotypical tweenybopping than late 20th Century rock, a prissy mean girl as her arch-rival (the worst of the worst, like the former), Maggie Pesky’s family as nothing but tropes, Raina as Maggie’s best female friend who plays drums and more. I guess that by watching some other review I can see why people defend this trash (no pun intended). Oh, who am I kidding?! I know this is a pre-2010s cartoon, but people try too hard to make it look good for more reasons than just the animation, which admittedly, is the only thing this show got right.

I honestly find the character designs adorable. Perhaps if they just didn't make the show about flies? And just have it be of other kinds of bugs, like bees or butterflies? “Flies are the most disgusting animals” I mean, you say that but when you look into human anatomy it’s not even close. The fact when you look at a person all you see is dead upper tissue layers with eyes, coated in BO causing bacteria, face mites filling our pours, knowing that majority of catchable diseases are transmitted by humans and I’m not even mentioning the inner workings like the fact we constantly drink our own snot as it trickles down your throat. Yea flies ain’t that bad, especially since there’s a lot of species that don’t even bother humans that often. You can’t really say anything if you haven’t seen a baby eat with its hands with its mouth open before vomiting or just ate a really spicy curry and well you get the idea

Throathead✔️ your constantly flaking skin cells into your food tho so that’s just as bad. Literally everytime you order food in a restaurant your eating 1-6 people’s dead flaky skin cells with their own microbiology layer of bacteria. Also yes, personal hygiene stops bad smells, but it doesn’t put that large of a dent in bacteria populations and change the fact only 43% of all the cells in your body is you, the rest is various forms of bacteria, viruses and parasites. The human body isn’t clean at all, it does it’s job and is pretty basic as far as mammals go but saying “humans are super clean” is like eating food off a toilet seat covered in crap and saying “this is a very clean plate” (although a dirty toilet seat is still cleaner than a human mouth but whatever).

I was one of those girls who actually watched this show. The only things I remember are the best friend being played by Cree Summer, the theme song, and one episode where Maggie and her older brother get all uppity and bratty because their grandpa is in town and letting Pupert wear a red hat that the other two got to wear when they were kids. Like, the three of them are at war with each other because of a fugly red hat. That episode was really fucking dumb.

WELL SAID! I watched it pretty often for a while & was pretty entertained in some ways, and yet confused or even annoyed by it in others, and I've always had trouble understanding, much less explaining, most of the why. Now I see some of it was actually _because_ I was nowhere near the target demographics, plus I have to admit some of my value system was rather upside-down around then. That said, I'm glad you mentioned some of my favorite things about it being among the best parts of the show: the title song (especially the sentiment), the almost-clever title, the quick-change gags in the title sequence [even if obviously inspired by Melissa Joan Hart's "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" & possibly other shows], and the creativity of the setting/'world' design & some of the concepts. I daresay it had potential... maybe not much, but more than we got!
@eatatjoes67515 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I watched it when it was on for a little while, and I thought it was pretty neat for the thing it set out to do. I could stand Maggie's voice & the theme song, but what I couldn't stand was *Pupert's voice*

@@karaoconnoraliasraidra Yeah, basically they're apparently equally aware as we are how gross they are, and are constantly trying to scrub the ick off of themselves. I think that applies to roaches.
