in my opinion the plot that the episode attempted was this: The Villains are too strong, the girls can't defeat them Suddenly: Gnome The Gnome offers himself as Evil-b-gone in exchange for the girls powers The girls oblige, the gnome makes the badguys away and everything is fine. But then the Gnomes actual plan comes into motion: Slowly but surely he takes away everyones individuality, hopes and dreams to turn them into an army of fanatics Basically he makes everyone give up their freedom for security, and then exploit the Townspeople. The Girls then realize that by giving up their powers and with that their agency to the gnome they exchanged a threat for a tyrant Which also returns the powers to the girls since the gnomes deal stipulates that he can only keep their powers if he makes evil go away But he himself is evil, therefore the pact goes away And then the girls fight the gnome and win everyones freedoms back* At least thats what i think the episode attempted, but ultimately failed since they did not show the process of everyone becoming mindless slaves cept the Girls and Utonium. That or the Gnome makes evil away completely and therefore everyones lives become entirely empty and boring and sameish. I dont know

Thing is I feel like despite having 22 minutes, this entire episode was rushed. Like it could’ve been 44 minutes, giving us more time to see the effects of life under the gnomes rule, showing the gnome letting the power get to his head, which causes the girls to realize the loophole in their deal. Basically the issue with this story is that there isn’t enough time to throughly explain things so plot points just seem random. Aside from that, the music is actually pretty great-especially Jess Harnell’s vocals.
@medusasea7913 жыл бұрын
Considering that in the actual episode the gnome was sad at the ending, it would've been nice if he started out as a good character, then let the power get over his head, and at the end, after the girls got their powers back he realised what he has become and changed for the better.

@JCBro-yg8vd3 жыл бұрын
I think I know why this episode was banned when it first aired: It's not because of the bright lights or the communism allegories. It's because the destruction of Townsville looks strikingly similar to the attack on the World Trade Center. And this was coming out within the three year anniversary of 9/11, so networks were still very sensitive about any possible ties to it or anything that could remind people of it.

Assuming the Gnome and his "cult" was an allegory for Communism, the episode does a terrible job at making it bad and Capitalism and "freedom" better. When it comes to the contract, the story works for the following reason: The Elders gave him PERMSSION to bring peace and eradicate evil, so long as he held up his end of the deal. Sure, it physically shows him taking the girls' powers, but he doesn't realize he doesn't have them until after he tried to used his spell on them again when they confront him. So how did he not hold up his end of the deal? He brought peace, didn't he? Everyone was happy! No one prevented anyone from doing what they wanted to do. So what gives? He got too comfortable. He grew power-hungry. He loved the praise and devotion that he got from the town and began to demand more. His flower could represent his pride or greed, and it grew to such a massive extent that it wrapped itself around Townsville, constricting it. As for the yin-yang and good/bad philosophy, what helps me get it is to look at the bigger picture. Utopia and Peace. When you live in a Dystopia, you want to feel good, plain and simple. Utopia makes you feel REAL good. When you feel that good, you can't be motivated to do anything because you already have it made! No problems, no worries, no pressure, just bliss. That's not peace. I'll get back to this later, i gotta go for now, but yeah.

i dont quite think it was a deos ex machina... as the gnome did break his promis as he promised to set townsvile free in exchange for thier powers. because he had,while he realised it or not,not rid townsvile of evil but merely replaced it when he abused the towns willingness to bow to him and surrender thier "lives" as he put it. thus rendering what he took from the girls null and void...as it is also heavily implied that the power he weilded didint come from him rather was governed by the "elders" and likely had binding laws he had to obey.

Mr. Enter, I just need to point out how you DON'T NEED A SEIZURE DISORDER TO HAVE A SEIZURE. It's possible for flashing lights to trigger a seizure in ANYONE. The reason it's more common in a cartoon is the colors, as while rock concerts they just appear to the eye as bright flashes the eye can't adjust to (and to someone with seizures the eye will TRY to adjust rapidly, leading to the seizure) But when you add COLOR into the mix well... Everyone's eyes are gonna try to adjust. And if you flash contrasting colors IT HAS THE SAME EFFECT. Whatever you believe, and however rare it is, let's point out one more HUGE thing: A concert has a thousand attendees. A SHOW HAS A MILLION. That makes it 1000x more likely to produce a seizure. I do appreciate the seizure warning though. I close my eyes whenever that clip was on screen.

Way better than the original review……thanks John and Kota for fixing this editing job. At first I kinda thought it got copyright blocked or something, but then after the Star Giant video reminding me of the odd edits she did. Very unneeded in my and probably everyone’s opinion

As a communist I will say the gnome doesn’t even represent the stereotypical evil commie in anti-communist stories. I think people thinking of this are making a stretch, and the song freedom beef kind of reinforces this weird idea that the gnome is a representation of communism. At best, he’s more representing of a religious cult, as many people forget that religious cults tend to promise to bring piece but at a price. Moreover, none of the writers or Craig himself stated that this was representing communism

Also moreover, we must remember that during the 2000's Evengelical Christanity was at its Zenith, with George W Bush in office, Jerry Fallwell Sr and Pat Robertson to name a few, I could see some people not liking the supposed figure that looked like Jesus. And, as Enter said, Communism wasn't on the mind of Americans during this era. it was more so defeating Osama Bin Laden, Killing Saddam Hussein, and so on. So, I think it being labeled as anti-communist propaganda is just a Strech we are making from today's angle given the rise of interest of socialism with the youth today.

I agree to an extent. I think it's more likely that the Gnome is a representation of authoritarianism in general instead of communism specifically. I don't know. Your thoughts are just as good as mine, but I am kind of conflicted because the creator himself said that the religious imagery was unintentional, and the villain does share some socialist motifs such as the red rose. I still think it's authoritarianism in general because of just how vague it is and how little answers we've gotten. Then again, I am a libertarian socialist so my views might be creating a sort of warped bias idk

I mean: the plot might not be that great, but quite a few of these songs (such as yin and yang) are a BOP!!!

If you want this kind of story done right (with one of the best villain songs in gaming), look at the 3rd semester in Persona 5 Royal

Maybe the Gnome not breaking his contract is a reference to the serpent in the Garden of Eden never lying yet we are supposed to believe that the serpent is evil.

If you love Jess Harnell's singing voice, you really should check out his band, Rock Sugar. It's basically band that mashes up heavy metal and pop music together to create song fusions. If you're curious, look up "Don't Stop The Sandman" (a fusion of "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey and "Enter Sandman" by Metallica).

Glad you got a re-edited done for this. I’m not joking when I say I genuinely think the original would have been better if you edited it instead of Stargiant.

I agree. Even Mr. Enter's first videos look better than any of Star Giant's, or at least with less errors.
