I co-sign that. This guy was really insightful and you could really tell his love for the medium. I absolutely love the idea of an anime episode, especially with him. Idk if you guys have done akira yet but if not that's a no Brainer. Also a good cg compared to bad episode would be interesting. Like comparing attack on titan to the new(bad) berserk series. Also any thing by studio gibli or masaaki yuasa. When it comes to anime i could go on for years but I rather use that energy to continue my campaign for the movie chocolate on stuntman react lol.

My favorite thing about Olaf is how much his segmented body contributes to the visual comedy. The three different snowballs that make his body are all different masses and have their own inertia; when he’s running and comes to a stop every snowball lurches forward a little bit by a different amount. I’ve always appreciated that detail

it depends... if your production house is tight AF, you don't have the freedom. that and also stopmotion... that one is planned through like mad, there ain't gonna be a frames extra or short... and also depending on the types of production, if you're in a TV production, there ain't gonna time for much experimentation, especially in anime in japan...

Capitalism! Yeah, way too much credit. Way too much money. On the upside, lots of really good movies have been shot with unknown actors and been very successful. My fav VFX set *jank tidbit* is from the first time Puss in Boots is met in the Shrek movies. Its a shot of him sitting at a table in a bar, with his bottom half visible, and his top half in shadow, with only his eyes visible. when they used the model as normal, the composition of the scene seemed off, *so they detached his head from his body* because they knew it would be in shadow. so when you see that scene, Puss' head is actually floating a ways above his body like the Cheshire cat. I don't know why, but its just one of those VFX things I heard or saw somewhere and it stuck in my head ever since.

Literally anything by KyoAni. They are without a doubt the undisputed best animators in the industry. The quality of their drawings and animations combinted with actually clever cinematography is genuinely unparalleled. Albeit unlike ufotable they usually dont do action stuff with big fights and explosions and stuff like that, so the animation isnt as "in your face" as it is with ufotable, but the quality absolutely prevails nonethelss if you pay even slight attention

Off model deformations are incredibly common in 2d and 3d animation. You can see an extremely weird wolf mouth at 6:51 for example. The trick is making them move fast and last only a fraction of a second. If you look at the more spectacular animations from League of Legends characters, they're monstuosly deformed XD

Commenting this here too because I'm just super passionate about this show right now. You've covered the original Tron and Tron: Legacy, but I bet you didn't know there was a Tron cartoon in 2012 called Tron: Uprising. The show was seriously underrated and looks GORGEOUS. I'm not sure if it was the first for this, but it was definitely one of the first examples I can think of of a 3D animated show that tried to look 2D and I think, given it was 2012, they pulled it off pretty well. Also just Robert Valley's style is so unique and cool and made all the already beautiful action sequences that much more appealing.
