Anime is becoming and or is mainstream now and as someone who grew up watch anime when it was considered unpopular or just a generally nerdy thing to do its quite the sight to see now that anime is popular some anime is trendy and with that has come a lot of ppl I've noticed that tend to dislike this for anime and bringing a lot of points to explain why its bad but for me I tend to disagree and with this video I hope to explain why I think anime becoming more popular or "mainstream" is a great thing we will discuss the journey of how anime became more and more mainstream Going from shows like Akira, Dragon Ball, Naruto to shows like Attack On Titan all the way up to now with shows like My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon slayer we will discuss the problem some anime fans have with others those being the cringe anime fans or my hero fans as some call them and various other complaints hope you like it

YOOOOOOOOO the part about watching divided eps on youtube and one of the parts always missing is the truest realest shit!!! I started watching One Piece that way haha. I love you so much, I do feel the same way about Black Lagoon. It is cool that more people are getting into the genre, the super hero comparison is SO good, it´s true, we were deemed nerds for liking comic books and super heroes and now it's mainstream.... and there's nothing wrong with it. Letting go of being bullied, or more lightly, being made fun of is an important step as you become an adult, so people should let go of all that "but back then nobody like it and I DID!!!" It's chill, we know. You were cool all along, you were "right" about that show. Now share that love with as many people as possible, so that they can feel what you felt watching for the first time. And now, to end: I WAS HERE WHEN INTERNET PITSTOP DIDN'T EVEN HAVE 600 SUBSCRIBERS, YOU NEW GUYS ARE ALL "FAKE" IP FANS!!!! Naah I truly hope that doesn't happen to you, like I said above, I enjoyed the content so much of course I told people about it, of course I shared it. Embrace the love ya'll. My main concern is anime going mainstream would cause all anime studios to make their stuff to appear to the mass general audience instead of keeping to what made them amazing in the first place, their uniqueness. I want Japan to keep pushing Japanese stuff out. Its a nice fresh thing instead of westernized stuff all over.

Honestly, more power to people getting into anime for the first time, my only problem is when shounen fan boys wanna act like they're superior to me and act like I'm trying to be a hipster when I say I don't watch shounen. @coltonowens2742
@coltonowens2742 Жыл бұрын
Okay I know your comment is a few months old, but I really have to ask. Is it really fair to write something off just because its "Shounen"? Not all Shounen is "fighting anime". Bakuman is Shounen, but its about various inspiring manga artists trying to realize their dreams of becoming authors. Haikyu is also another one based around Volleyball and doesn't have any fighting. Often times, Shounen is the very best at exploring character arcs.
@TombaFanatic
@TombaFanatic Жыл бұрын
@@coltonowens2742 I think it's typically fair to write off whole genres as not being your type. I'll give a show a shot, but time and time again every shounen I watch is just boring to me. Just like how I don't enjoy reality TV or RPGs, and youtube make-up tutorials, I'm pretty skeptical I'll enjoy things similar to what I've loathed in the past. I'm positive my tastes are boring to a good chunk of people, watching 4 girls sit around a cafeteria table discussing snacks is probably as attractive as watching paint dry to many and I wouldn't push it on people who seem to think so.
@coltonowens2742
@coltonowens2742 Жыл бұрын
@@TombaFanatic I'm really not asking this to be a condescending asshole, do you enjoy any piece of media that centers around characters on some sort of journey, trying to accomplish some sort of task, and watching them grow and develop along the way? That's most Shounen at its bare bones. The LOTR trilogy isn't Shounen, but it very much has those elements, and those elements are pretty universally enjoyed by most everyone, so unless you find absolutely everything with those elements boring, I imagine its really hard to not find at least one series you like. Your taste described above are allot more broad and defined vs Shounen, so its kinda hard to compare the two. Hell as much as I hate Clannad, it has a very clear overarching plot, with things and events that happen along the way, that have a very broad appeal.

Yeah I don't really relate to this at all. Maybe it's some American shit. Beyblade was common with younger (1st to 4th grade) kids but Yugioh was played by kids up to 6th or 7th grade. Granted that was during the height of Yugioh's popularity in the west so maybe you're somewhat younger? I'm 29 by the way. But I also think maybe anime in Latin America (and Europe also) never had this weird stigma it has in the US. This past week I stumbled upon a video where someone claimed anime started getting mainstream with shows like Attack on Titan, thought it was just someone with a very stupid take but that prompted youtube to start showing a lot of videos of Americans talking about anime getting mainstream in the 2010s and not the mid 2000s with stuff like Naruto hitting western television. Like a friend put it, "to me anime is mainstream when my dad could recognize Naruto and he doesn't know what an anime is".

@@ez6888 I'm absolutely saying Europe had anime before America. You have to be completely ignorant to say otherwise. Europe (Italy and France in particular, and to a lesser degree Spain) and Latin America have imported Japanese television shows, both animated and live action, since the 70s. America started later in the 80s and for the most part edited the shows far more heavily. Old European dubs tended to change names but changing the entire branding and basically making up an entirely new plot like you see in the American version of Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets) or Robotech was far less common. America is very much behind the curve when it comes to respectful contact with Japanese media, regardless of how much money it makes;

I'm well aware of the "anime fans are nerds" stereotype in the US but I think something happened in the 2000's that kicked it into overdrive. I started high school in 2000 and the biggest anime fan I met after the first few months was a Mexican guy who would play stuff on a laptop for friends during lunch and would smoke after he got out of class. He was cool, but not in the "varsity sports player with rich parents" cool. I blame the greater exposure of the medium, from Cartoon Network's Toonami to various Saturday morning blocks. The latently weeb masses ended up overwhelming the liberal-minded artsy and college types and Star-Trek watching sci-fi fans who mostly consumed it in the 90's

Similar to why many people disregard old video games because of graphics. Crazy how we went from getting our asses kicked for liking this stuff to having 12 year olds harassing manga artists on twitter(rip Kubo and Horikoshi). What a time to be alive. Anyways, I like that anime is growing because that just means more for me, personally. But, like with anything that gets popular, there's always gonna be "those" people that try to ruin shit. Cringe weebs are fine because they're fans like everyone else, just mega weird, they're everywhere and that's ok. The people everyone needs to watch out for are the no lifer's that bash on anime and it's fanbase simply because it's different. They'll be outright malicious in most cases or, as one of the dumbest ideas ever to exist in history, pretend to like anime so that they can "take control" of it like it's a singular object(not how anime works but ok). They never win but they keeping trying anyways, if only they put that much effort in touching some grass. All in all, anime is currently a phase for pop culture just like how comics and videogames once were. The people that like it will stay and the rest will move on eventually. I'm just glad that the "us" of today's generation will have an easier time experiencing the same excitement we did when we first started watching.

Your point about gatekeeping, and the whole "not a real fan" is interesting because I think some of it comes from people wanting others to watch more of the medium, and to explore what it has, but with the people you showed, who I've seen plenty of too, yeah its definitely not a good light. I've seen the more positive version of this in other communities, like gaming communities for long franchises (Persona, MTG, etc) I can go into it only having played the latest entry, and more enfranchised people are happy to talk about it while also giving me recommendations and suggestions if I wanted to explore more, but its never looking down on me. Of course it goes both ways, there's bad in gaming communities, good in some anime communities. It's definitely growing pains, and we'll have to deal with it for a while, but hey, at least not everyone is like that, the people genuinely wanting others to discover more stuff and are welcome and supportive are great.

My mom was the one who got me into anime. And growing up I rarely had friends that liked anime, it never really deterred me because anime is just it's own ocean of personality and genres, so my thought process was, " Lol who needs friends I have anime." Of course, I still got the friends I had to watch anime even if they hated it. But to talk about normies watching anime. Personally, I don't really care what anime people like or how many ect, because even if I don't agree it makes them happy and why should I stop them. But recently I've been encountering " fake anime fans " and it actually made me uninstall TikTok because it was just pissing me off. And it's not petty shit, this is, " Yea I watch anime but if you watch more than 50 shows or collect figures," stupid shit like that. It doesn't make me want to gatekeep or anything but yea these bitches really do be watching couple KZbin then calling me weird for watching like +300 shows.

I've been into anime since 2016 and it's wild how much the culture has changed even since then. I joined at the tail end of the "aot season 2 when" wave and was totally bullied for being into anime in middle school. I used KissAnime constantly and the KZbin thing was real. Imo it's really been with Demon Slayer and JJK that catapulted anime. That and oddly enough EVA getting put on Netflix. The amount of people I know who've watched like 3 anime but one of them being Eva is wild.

Watched anime since ‘98/‘99 in fifth grade renting a vhs of Evangelion from an indie video store, the fifth volume so it was ten episodes in and had no idea wtf was going on but those two episodes pretty much had all the tropes. From there it was like a whole new world opened up - discovering anything with an anime art style whether it was video games or anything on tv was like an exciting treasure hunt. Thinking how niche it was back then due to the limitations of the internet at the time kind of crazy in retrospect…

When I got over Miyazaki and started to dig into anime with my friends, I, and well, all 3 of us, felt as elitist. We were SFDM (Searching for deeper meaning) as if anime is a zenith, a peak of art and culture. And yes, the best movies and TV series I've seen are mostly anime. But there are mediocre and even shit content. And other media are not below anime, they are just different. And watching anime doesn't make you superior to others... Nowadays I chill. I can watch anime, I can read manga. I can drop it all and entertain myself with some books or movies. Though I am sure I will be reading manga and watching anime in 3 years and in 30 years.

And 90% of the fan base is being just pain in the ass to deal with but if you can ignore them and have a good time with some friends and having a watch-a-thon for some anime and that's good

I just found the channel last week and I've really been enjoying binging through the backlog. As for anime becoming more mainstream, I agree that it's a good thing. It's so much easier to access new shows now and it's more of an acceptable conversation topic when it's brought out. Pretty much everyone has seen some anime these days and that's just one more thing I have in common with just about everyone, kind of like being a fan of the MCU and comics. There's an added layer now of having experienced early anitube and all of the shows that were popular to talk about during the early 2010s like Trigun, Eureka Seven, Welcome to the NHK, Wolf's Rain, and countless others that don't get mentioned as much anymore because of the currently popular shows. Like you said, we've got this whole library of shows to recommend to anyone who's interested, a lot of which are still fairly accessible thanks to the Crunchyroll/Funimation backlog. It's up to us now to welcome newer people in and create a community that's not as toxic as it could be.

@@henryfleischer404 It depends what you're into. I can recommend Full Metal Panic up through The Second Raid. I haven't seen the latest Season yet. I think it might be on Crunchyroll by now or maybe still at Funimation while they transition. It's half-mecha, half-romcom. The dub is excellent. Baccano is supernatural mafia show told out of chronological order, but the storylines intersect. The dub is excellent. This is also either on Funimation or Crunchyroll. Trigun is a space western like Cowboy Bebop that came out around the same time. It's definitely a must-watch. The dub is excellent. I know for sure that this one is on Hulu. Let me know what specifically you're looking for so I can give better recommendations. Enjoy Gundam!

Also thank you for introducing chain saw man to me, just checked out the trailer n damn man I’m so hyped! The animation is tight with those action scenes! Very impressed with how fluent they feel, not like castlevania striga levels but amazing! (What I mean is, when she fights, there’s a weight behind her sword where it feels like actual effort and resistance behind them, most animes make it feel like the character is cutting through butter. Which is cool an all but there’s a certain impact the animators in castlevania had behind that scene)

I had a kinda strange introduction to anime. I was introduced to it by Miyazaki movies and Robotech around 2005-ish, and then didn't really watch any more than that until around 2020, after being into Vocaloid for a while, and Touhou for a few months. Because of how I was introduced to it, I'm pretty at home watching older anime, despite being fairly new to anime in general. Some of my favorites are Girl's last tour, The saga of tanya the evil, and madoka magica. Those top two really make me doubt my taste due to how similar their character designs are, but eh, they are both good anyway. Most recently I've been watching Mobile Suit: Gundam. It's interesting seeing one of Macross's inspirations, and I'm mostly really liking it. I like the character and mech designs, and also the characters in general, and I love the animation. Vocaloid gave me an appreciation for showing a lot of action for little to no budget, so all the little details of how people and objects move in space have a tendency to catch my eye, in a good way. I'm thinking about watching Shadows House next, but my brother, who I watch anime with (this is pretty much the only way I can actually finish a series), wants to watch Trigun next. I've also been thinking about watching Cyber City Odeo and Vampire Hunter D soon.

He’s got a point. In the last year and a half or so I’ve generated pretentious weeb traits tbh. But it’s not because I hate newcomers to the fandom, it’s because I think a lot of us are afraid of our niche hobby being contorted into something that appeals towards a huge group of people in meh/lower quality than something that’s near perfection made for a small audience. Though I will admit, finding out a few of the most popular kids at my high school were huge anime fans had me climbing the ranks to dab them up fr fr. This video has some true points that I’ll definitely keep in mind.

Might be different here in Western Europe, but when I was in elementary school and the show aired on tv (it did between 2000 and 2004, I'm 29) all the boys were into it and we'd do battles with the cards. Granted, the situation might have been different for people who'd take their Yu-Gi-Oh cards to highschool, but by that time I wasn't into that anymore so I don't know.

I watched Inuyasha on youtube, DUBBED. No matter how grainy the screen was I somehow watched the entire series. I’m just happy that now I can watch it on netflix and for that its worth it that its now more popular. Oh and yeah, one thing that I notice is how now people praise anime to be the ultimate art form and type of animation and then start saying shit like how western animation is bad etc. Anime IS ANIMATION, its a cartoon like it or not. Saying that one cartoon is better just because its from Japan is stupid. How can a person say that Prince of Egypt is shit or Coraline etc.? Its an art form, just enjoy it and don’t shit on west. Also, I’m just little sad how so many people give shojo anime and manga a chance. I get a feeling like its a sexist thing or something, that you’ll get coochies if you watch a milisecond of it. It would be nice if people could give a chance to Sailor Moon, Ouran Hugh School Host Club or hell even Sugar Sugar Rune (manga though, anime is shit). I like shonen, hell I live for Jojo, but I think people are limiting themselves.

Well I respect the weeaboos far more than the mainstream fans. Yes at times its a little to far and over the top but those weeaboos fans at least look to be willing to pay the toll to ride the popular anime train whereas the mainstream fans just are here since it's more acceptable or convenient to say I watch anime and will be gone as soon as its unpopular again. Mostly all of us even if we were ahead of the curve or not started as mainstream fans and then delved into other obscure animes from there so I just hope all new fans at some point just jump in and watch other animes not just the popular ones or the ones everyone else is talking about so we all can watch new things in anime. This video can also be applied to video games as well if not more so.

I should mention a lot of the quote "weird anime fans" most of them including myself are neurodiverse, most of us are harmless and were just messing around. As long as were not hurting ourselves or hurting anyone else than its all good. So idk let people be weird, if they wanna do Tik-Toks and act out as there favourite anime characters there not hurting anyone and it sucks when they get picked on because there not doing anything wrong persay. This is also just in general to just be nice and understanding to those that are little different that is all.
