When Eren asked Mikasa "What am I to you?" he probably already knew the truth about the Ackerman clan from his memories but still hoped that Mikasa would come up with an answer that proved she wasn't just an Ackerman. His whole trip to the continent (for him at least) was to prove himself that the memories he saw when he touched Historia's hand were not true and that there was a peaceful way to resolve this whole situation without anyone dying. He was proven wrong and thus he left his team to proceed with his original, unavoidable plan.

I think freeing all the wall titans is very symbolic. I think that the walls, to Erin especially, represent the captivity that he has fought against all his life. He has destroyed "the cage". It's like eren has no choice. Marley already spread rumours to the world that eldian are devil. And even when eren will try to make peace discussion to the world no would belive and trust. There was no way that eren would clear the misunderstanding of world and marley. Marley want to kill all eldian so to protect his people his friend eren has no choice just to fight until his all enemies destroy like he said in manga.
