Beautiful Harmony. I'm a rock and roll guy but I've always appreciate country music, especially before the 90s. The Carters were a force in country music at that time and Hank Williams escorted his career was, a hell of a musician and songwriter who left this Earth too early. It's almost like six degrees of separation. You have the Carters you have Hank Williams and you have Johnny Cash marrying one of the Carter sisters. This was an instrumental and Powerful time for country music period and when it comes down to it most music has it's connected in small and big ways. The PBS documentary on country music a few years back shows us that. I've rarely seen any clips on KZbin with Hank Williams or the Carters. This was special

Nope! Anita could sing, and she played the guitar passably well, but it was Helen, the oldest sister, who was the most musically talented of the three!! She not only sang backup, she played the piano, autoharp, accordion, guitar, and mandolin, all at the professional level, and she wrote all of the group’s vocal arrangements; when writing those arrangements, she mastered the art of sending one voice after another into the lead, all within the same verse, woven so seamlessly that you have to really know their voices to be able to discern who picks up the lead, and where. It gives the group their distinctive sound when they all sing together, not just backing up one of the sisters. I’m sure Helen could have sung lead all the time, bc she had a beautiful voice, too, but her personality kept her in the background.

@voraciousreader33413 жыл бұрын
Anita was decidedly _NOT_ the most talented of the three Carter Sisters. Historians rate Helen as the best overall musician/instrumentalist of the three, and I agree, wholeheartedly. She was also the most invested in keeping their history alive, and with her mother recorded songs for the Smithsonian. Anita may have had the best voice, but Helen chose not to carry the lead voice and instead sang harmony, and she was exceptionally good at playing the accordion, mandolin, guitar, piano and autoharp. She also was a master arranger, and did all of the arrangements of the songs they sang. I won’t go into technicalities for a vocal arrangement skill she was master of....you can read her Wikipedia article if you want to. Just bc a girl has a pretty face and a pretty voice doesn’t automatically translate to talent!
@dickwarren50873 жыл бұрын
@@voraciousreader3341 Well, I sure as hell ain't gonna get into a debate about whether the Carter sister with what you describe as "the best voice" of the sisters, was the most talented of them. You say that Helen was more talented in playing various musical instruments and in the composing and arranging of music. I have no reason to doubt you. Heck, for all I know, one of the others may have been more talented with keeping the books or a more talented cook. But, I think we are talking about singing here. And if having the best voice is not the criteria for most talented singer, I'd sure like to know what "decidedly" is. It's really all a matter of opinion, anyway. I will tell you this, when it comes to considering opinions of experts, historians are way down near the bottom on my list of expert opinions on musical talent. How other musicians view the sisters would carry a lot more weight with me than how historians rate them on musical talent. One other note: how much you want to bet that Maybelle had a lot more to say about which sister would take the lead vocals than either Helen or Anita.

But of course her real beauty is her simple dressing, her personality and the way she carried herself. Pure attraction. Women dressed in long dresses and no showing of skin are what is really sexy for me, she has nothing to prove to anyone and is sure of herself!! @@christopherfranklin1881 , hi, yes my outfit 508th ARCT came back to Ft Campbell in 1956 to act as Cadre to reactivate the 101 which was brought back to Ft Campbell from Frankfort. I took my discharge, turning down Medevac Helicopter training at Ft Rucker. I’m kind of sorry I did but Dern the Dust-off Helicopter pilots from then were the first in to NAM. I did later re-enlist in the Air Force and did Medevac of NAM wounded from Clark AB, to Travis AFB from the 60s on thru to 1977. Got in on the POW returning to CONUS

She would have been 18 or 19 years old in the Hank Williams clip, and she had more talent in her little finger than any current pop musician has in their entire career...

while I agree with you, it's not necessarily that they aren't talented, it's that the industry and current culture only wants braindead pop and boring pop tunes.

Shes ok, but her singing is nothing special, and the style is unoriginal, even for the era this was recorded. Its no wonder that the only way someone would ever heard of her is because of her connections with legends like cash. And this bashing of modern artists is so stupid. Some suck, but some sucked in every decade. In reality, most musicians and singers are much better today, at least from a technical point of view. The rest ist taste. But don't blame modern artist because you have lost interest in following modern sounds, or are only interested in one kind of musical style. It's ok to listen to this stuff, why not, but this disrespect and generalized statements are just annoying and stupid. Greetings from Germany.

Amazing how videos and pictures of beautiful women from past eras can move subsequent generations to the core. Perhaps it is because time is a distance we can not (re)cover.

The way she gazed into Hank's eyes! Coy and shy and sultry all in one. Wow.

She is an angel.. so pure and natural and unaffected. i love it when she first turns toward Hank and her gaze is all over him.. up and down.. and then she shyly looks down almost as if she was embarassed and ashamed. Beautiful smile. i was born in 1945 and had fantasy's about going to some country barn dance and meeting a girl like her.. although i was a bit of a wild man and trying to be with a girl like that would have done her no good. i've watched this duet over and over. A relationship with Elvis would not have lasted long... he was way too much of a skirt chaser. Hank Williams and her makes much more sense. She seems to be really smitten by him and they are equals in many ways.

I was born in 1945 as well. Grew up listening to Hank on the radio. I remember hearing about his death. The song I remember best from that time because it was such a fun song was Hey Hey, Good Lookin'. Everyone was singing it.

What a lovely person and great singer. I saw two of the Carter sisters with Johnny and June Carter Cash in concert back in the 1990's. Not sure if one of them was Anita or not.

Anita looks heavenly in this video in color. They way she looks at the camera with her eyes, her smile, she looks wonderful. Here I am commenting at a woman that is only three years younger than my Mom. I am being honest that if I were an eligible young man back then I would have been courting her after asking her Dad!!!
