When I worked in Johnny Cash's backstage crew one summer, and I was first introduced to him, he was so gracious and said here is my wife June, and this is my mother-in-law Maybelle Carter - I will never forget meeting her, because I didn't really even know who she was, but I knew she was something powerful, because when she acknowledged me, it seemed like the sky opened up and a thunderbolt came and hit me right in the head - will never forget her till the day i go

I didn't either, so when I saw the movie, Walk the Line, I was surprised by Reese's nature of June's portrail. She did a fine job, acting and singing, which she had to learn to sing, and play an instrument.

Wow!! Despite all the greatness of the Carter Family(the original one, a three piece trio, and later the "females only" version), and the genious of Mother Maybelle's badass guitar(that influenced names such as Merle Travis and Chet Atkins), and the beautifull vacal work, I have to say that June Carter was the star of the family. She had so much charisma, was so pretty and so funny. I never saw her playing the guitar(like her mother and sisters did), but who cares? She was a natural born star. I'm from Rio, Brasil, and I enjoy diferent types of music, but I can't stop watching this and others Carter Family songs. They were a top class act and shoud be more highly rated today. I knew some North Americans that simply never ever heard about The Carter Family or even about Chet Atkins.

RIP liebe J u n e

"The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle" were pioneers in the entertainment field having played 7 different radio stations from XERA and the Mexico border blaster stations, WBT North Carolina , 2 , WRNL and WRVA in Virginia, WNOX Tennessee to KWTO Missouri and back to WSM in Tennessee. June was the natural "front person" with her outgoing personality,and Anita ,Helen and Mother Maybelle all had beautiful voices and were fantastic at singing ballads and hymns. Helen, Anita and MM Carter were the " Famous Trio" Check my You Tube channel for some great songs from the hottest band in the US in the 40's and 50's. The whole band should be inducted into the CMHOF. ASAP!! Maybe a great country artist like Marty Stuart can help open the door. The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle were top stars at the Grand Ole Opry from 1950 until 1967 then they were on the Johnny Cash show for years.They helped build Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry Besides being pioneers in the business ,they all had solo recording contracts and wrote a lot of great songs and carried on the original "Carter Family heritage" performing the old classics with their "Top Shelf" talent. Anita Carter has a 7cd set from Bear family records dubbed "The Appalachian Angel" that is still selling today and you can pick up 4 or 5 different cds from the bands 1949 Radiozark recordings with Chet Atkins as well. Great stuff by an All American family band. Helen Carter, Anita Carter and June Carter deserve to be inducted into the CMHOF that they helped build. There was no CMHOF when this performance was recorded in 1952 but "The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle had been one of the "hottest" tickets in our country performing throughout the country live all through the 40's "before" the Grand Ole Opry called in 1950. They were the babies of the Opry in 1950. Anita was 17 June 20,Helen 22.

+CashPresley32; Yea I know the boys club that was the CMHOF &;at first ;had a hard time enshrining females., there aren't any all female groups at all to this day in the CMHOF. The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle; were pioneers in radio and live entertainment. They were so popular from 1943 to 1949 before the WSM Grand Ole Opry called them in 1950 to join. They were the youngest to join the Opry at the time. They were the first very successful all female group. June gets some credit but the whole band was fantastic and Helen ,and Anita sang very beautifully along with Mother Maybelle. I have loved discovering them and buy everything that I can find that they recorded. Anita has a 7cd Bear family; collection entitled ;The Appalachian Angel" and Helen was the best musician and songwriter and sings beautifully as well. They all wrote songs. This band is an American buried treasure and should be inducted into the CMHOF. Mother Maybelle should be inducted again with her girls..

Tony Lupo What do you think about Johnny Cash?
@tonylupo17648 жыл бұрын
+CashPresley; I like Cash and he was a great American ;entertainer. He didn't appear on the GOO until 1956 and male performers like him were put on a pedestal.& I personally would of loved to see The Carter Sisters and MM in the 40s as they were drawing crowds all over the country. google themon Amazon and buy their Radiozark collection of 4 or 5 cds if you count the early Chet Atkins cd with them. I have the unedited recordings from the original Reel to Reel recordings, fantastic entertainment.; I heard that the reason ;The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle weren't inducted into the CMHOF is because the Original family (AP Sarah and Mother Maybelle is there already..( That is a REAL LAME reason if that;s the truth ). Check them out they were fantastic and the most talented sisters our country has ever see. .60+ years of entertaining America. (just watch the full version of this show and check out Anita Carter and Hank Williams Sr duet== Her voice is absolutely the best! )

He said everyone agreed Johnny was the uglyest man there was to look at but had the best personality. He said everyone loved him and never saw his looks. He said Johnny won June with his personallity because he knew he did have a chance with his looks. He said you could not find a better hearted person than Johnny and that he would do anything for his friends. He claimed Johnny always lifted people up. I dont know but I will believe that was true!
