She didn't really want to. I think she was happy to just get up there and sing, preferably with her family around, and leave the star stuff to someone else . There's an interview she and Helen did with Archie Campbell where she pretty much says that.

I remember Anita alive. I was just a kid, and country music wasn't "cool." But we watched the Johnny Cash Show, and I stopped everything to hear HER........ I don't remember much else about it, just Anita. I didn't think then and don't know that any human could sound like that.....

I remember watching this live on the Johnny Cash Show. I was only nine but was mesmerized by her voice. She was so pretty as well. Rest in Peace Anita.

I remember when they played this on our local country station! She truly was the best singer of all the Carter Sisters! I've always loved her voice and used to watch The Johnny Cash Show just to see her! What a beautiful voice. I read in a book that she liked to rehearse her songs and that Hank Snow didn't like to to do retakes at all and so people were expecting an explosion when the 2 teamed up...but with Anita ...Hankdid retakes if she asked him to. :)

Obviously she was a superstar ....and fame is still chasing her...buy her "Appalachian Angel" 7 cd set. so many recordings that were unreleased until 2004 , but were awesome! And on top of that she still sang with her sisters and (Mom)Mother Maybelle the whole time. God has mysterious paths for all of us and Anita is getting more and more popular now. All 3 Carter Sisters Helen,June and Anita will eventually be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame for their lifelong contributions to country music..Love them!

First time I've heard this song since the '70s. It was a hit, but I don't know how high it got on the charts. Maybe I've been under a rock or something, but I didn't know Anita had passed away until I read it here.

I really think we have the Cash estate to thank for that. They could yank these in a second, but haven't. Even in death, Johnny Cash continues to help make the world a better place to be. Thanks John Carter, et al.
