Not sure what the name of this song is, but commenters usually fill me in pretty fast! It could be "Walkin In the Sun On The Sunny Side of Spain" or some abbreviation thereof. Anyhow, it's a lovely showcase for Anita Carter's voice, from the March 17, 1971 episode of "The Johnny Cash Show."

She did record a lot of material on her own, and it seems to me that her solo career was promoted well. She did a bunch of songs with Hank Snow in the 50s, for instance.

I think the Carter family was happy singing together and was nt looking for stardom or greatness Anita grew more beautiful and her voice her voice more full with time. From the time she did a duet with Hank Williams I can't help it if I'm still in love with you. She did have an angelic voice. But they all sounded beautiful together as a lot of all girl groups .

As pointed out correctly below, June is not in this video. That's Anita singing lead, seated and playing guitar. She was just short of her 38th birthday and at the absolute peak of her beauty and her singing ability, which is second to no one...period. Unfortunately, she suffered from arthritis and the effects of it (or, more probably, her medication) shortened her life and caused her tremendous physical problems. As June said after Anita's death in 1999, "She just faded away..."

I fell for Anita's voice the first time I played the Johnny Cash LP Ring Of Fire and listened to the track, Where You There. Anita's voice stands out in the chorus line. Later on, I came across the Hank Snow duets which he recorded with Anita. That was a stroke of genius to match up Hanks gravely voice with Anita's pure angelic tones. Those tracks are some of the best recordings she ever did. Check them out here on KZbin

You know what Bruce; I'm sure you are right! There seems to be something about creative folk that makes them tend to wander! I'm not sure why, and I've observed that behavior in lesser folks! Somewhere I read that June Carter also had extracurricular affairs...and she has always been such an icon of the Carter family in my mind. I guess we mere mortals should find satisfaction in the music and lyrics they have gifted us!

They really all did possess their own talents. Helen could pick guitar like her mama too. She also played accordion. June studied acting and wrote many songs and brought a comedic spin and light-heartedness to the stage, Anita preferred to be in the mix but not front and center. Saw several interviews with her where she was almost chastised for not being more ambitious in her career choices, but she said was happy to be part of the group. If you look at the sisters singing together, Anita often puts her arms around her mama and her sisters...maybe because they all huddled around one microphone, but I think it was also her safe place.

On a 1980's show called Nashville Now, Which was hosted by Archie Cambel, Anita Carter was asked why she didnt take advantage of her talent ? And why she didn't work harder on getting number one hits ? Her reply was a shrug of the shoulders and she said, I didn't really have the ambition my mom and my sisters had. I liked to play & sing on stage with my family, But, if I never had a song in the charts it would't bother me at all. She did climb the charts doing a few duo's with men artists. But it's a real shame and a waste of quality talent that she didnt really go for it. I wonder if she knew how talented she was ? When you watch the old 1950's Oprey and other barndance video's from that era Anita is always pushed in the back playing upright bass. Most of the time she is hidden.
