Beautiful. Though the inhabitants of Dark City are trapped in a gloomy and depressing city, where there is neither light or memories, such beauty still exists. The ability of humanity to persevere in such an environment, to struggle, to create, to live - this is the essence of humanity that the Strangers were looking to understand.

@calumsanderson67412 жыл бұрын
There was a WHOLE drama around it. One of those "Snyder Cut" scenarios where the studio released a butchered version but Proyas got to do his director's cut, thankfully. There was also unfounded negativity due to similarity to The Matrix - and because The Matrix was a big budget studio film, and Dark City was a pretty much independent but international coproduction (filmed here in Australia just like The Matrix) - Dark City's release was staggered and pretty inconsequential. Some saw it before the Matrix came out, most saw it after, or at least, were aware of it after The Matrix and wrote it off as a knock off. This all kind of encapsulates humanity's assumption and proves how that assumption shows people's stupidity. Dark City does deal with similar themes and it's also sci-fi, but that's it really. They're completely different films and both absolute bangers. I was a kid when both came out and I was peripherally aware of the drama, but there's a reason you hadn't heard of it until you got that double disc set - the support for such a film, even a cult classic like Dark City, that was independent - the rights kind of collect dust and nobody cares about releasing it on any format because there's no perceived profit to be made. It sucks and that's where the commercial side of the film industry interferes with the filmmaker's side of the film industry. Hopefully we're seeing this change for the better as we speak.
@montevideo35802 жыл бұрын
@@calumsanderson6741 Interesting back-story. Thank you. Also, it is indeed a shame that several films are not given proper releases due to them not being big studio films. I would love to see a dvd or even bluray of Some Girls 1988 starring Connelly release here in my native country Denmark. But that movie is too small and obscure for that to happen. A lot of movies were only released on vhs and it probably was in Denmark back in the day.
@AndrewTbusiness Жыл бұрын
@@calumsanderson6741 this movie predated the Matrix by a little bit, I was working in a theater at the time and literally no one bought tickets. I had the fortune of pre screening it at a special 2 am showing, as well as missing out on the entire opening voice over due to walking in late. So I got the full brunt of the mystery the way it was meant to be presented and was so happy to finally see the DC resolve this. But yeah, the Matrix was the following yr so far as I can tell at least here in the US the movie simply died in its first week and it was pulled the following Friday. We'd had it promoted for a while, posters up, and knew it was coming so it definitely was meant to be a major release with the cast it has.
@rhmayer1 Жыл бұрын
@@calumsanderson6741 I saw them together, both for the first time when they both first came out - Dark City opening for The Matrix. Needless to say I was completely mind-blown even before The Matrix. And then, well, pretty much catatonic after The Matrix like most of the world after that movie. Best double-feature I've ever seen, and we went to a LOT especially in my younger days with the family setting up the back of the station wagon for us kids and going to the drive-in. They're very different movies. One is deeply surreal, fantastic and nightmarish, the other hugely impactful precisely because it's NOT surreal, but has the feeling that "it could be true/real - that we just don't know." They are both deep psychological thrillers in a science-fiction/horror setting, brilliant showcases of imagination, but with very different stories to tell, affecting different parts of my mind.

It would be nice Jennifer Jazz singer, I wonder if he is so good because he did not do at least one album !! There would be nothing to envy comparison with jazz star singers

good example of the fact that GREAT actor is not just good voice or emotions or mimic or body ..............it is a whole. and the best test for a great actor is a scene where he/she has to do basically nothing. ..............jennifer connely definitely passed the test ...............

Hey, i made a tribute about Jennifer Connelly, i tried to match song and cutscene in the best way i could. I know its sound kinda lame but if you are a fan of 80's music check it out and let me know your thoughts! Thanks for reading me!kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKLQf35oabehfdk
