I’ve trusted anker for my electronics for years, they make fantastic laptop docking stations that just work. I’ve had other docks in the past from reputable companies that didn’t work properly. All my cables and such are anker. Built to last and it works. If I ever get a power station I’ll definitely go anker.

Sounds and looks like a great piece of kit. Although when you stated the price I did flinch….. But then when you consider the pitch saving costs and that you could run that saving over two years if you don’t go away that often, the price all of a sudden seems reasonable. Good to see that you “choose” your reviews to keep the relevance of your channel. Keep up the great content. Thanks.

Dan that sounds just the job, can you review the solar panels so would that mean you could go totally off grid with solar
@tonysutton65592 жыл бұрын
We can go away for the weekend with a fully charged battery and not need a hook up. Admittedly the fridge runs on gas so we don't hit the leisure battery hard as it is basically used for lighting, the water pump and a bit of TV (which is also fully charged before we leave). If we are away for longer we can just book into a camp site every 3 or 4 nights to recharge the battery, dump the black tank and fill up with clean water (and have a good soak in a proper shower). They are nice to have but I couldn't see one of these things ever paying back its cost and then you have the expense of the additional fuel used to haul a 3 stone lump around.

Hi Dan, I’m looking into doing more off grid in my caravan and I’m looking at the different options between the powerhouse or integrated lithium batteries in the caravan. The integrated version looks quite complex wiring. Difficult finding any information on DIY lithium solar charged kits available that are integrated into the van and provide 240v into the existing van sockets. Is this something you have considered?? Thanks Ian

Can you plug these directly into your caravan as a replacement to a hook up? So you would be able to use the sockets

Yes you can we’ve been using one for a while now and works fantastic.

If using for off grid you need to consider your load requirements. Running AC / Aircon, electric hob / electric ring on hob, microwave, fridge etc. will drain the battery quickly and with only 300 Watt solar charging (car 12V will take a long time) it will not charge very well in UK autumn / winter. You would need quite a few solar panels to charge the Anker unit in a day between Sept and March in the UK. Testing a 100 Watt fixed panel recently I only got 330 watts in 9 hours due to clouds. I do agree it would be good for a night away but 2 days would be stretching it. A modern Dometic fridge can draw 120 Watts at 12 Volts which is 10 Amps so 10 hours approx. run time just for the fridge.

How long would it power Starlink RV for please? (40w avg). Also, could it be recharged from our caravan’s own solar panel 200w + 120AH leisure battery? Thanks from NZ
@TheTrudgians2 жыл бұрын
Hey - at 40w drain this will last around 40 hours (1500/40 etc) as for recharging - any solar panel with an XT60 connector will work. It’s incredibly flexible, and has in built MPPT 👍

Thanks Dan, very interesting. I'm trying to decide whether to go for a lithium battery plus 1300 watt inverter and additional solar panels for off grid use. One of these does appeal though. I guess the extra cost of the solar panels puts it at a cost disadvantage from the setup I have been considering.
@TheTrudgians2 жыл бұрын
Its a really good question Martin. Before these things were so popular, i was adamant we should have an inverter installed in the caravan. Nowadays, i'd happily have one of these. The portability of it really does the selling for me, i can if I needed to, recharge it in the car whilst on the move, I dont need to store it in the caravan, and It can be with me, where ever I need power. The USB ports have been surprisingly the most used part of this 757. Although, as i mentioned I did plug it in the caravan.

@@TheTrudgians Hi Dan, Have just ordered this as Amazon have it on offer for £1099! I figure that this is going to be as good if not a better solution thatn a new Lithium battery, extra solar panels, new mppt controller and inverter. Not to mention the hassle of fitting all this. Also if and when we change caravan we will have this without uninstalling and reinstalling the kit! No brainer I think. Many thanks for the great review.

Asking for a bit of help from Anker 757 owners. I’ve just bought one and have noticed that when I turn on the AC plugs, an uneven tone buzzing noise comes from either side. It’s sounds like a short circuiting noise. It isn’t loud but loud enough to notice without being up close. Can anyone check theirs and let me know if this is normal?

Q. These power banks. Do you use an adapter to power up the caravan or not. Otherwise this would be placed inside the caravan and space is limited. Thanks .
@TheTrudgians2 жыл бұрын
Good morning, yes I made a cable that has a 3 pin plug one end, and a 16 amp socket the other - you can in fact buy them, though I had the bits lying around. This then plugs into the Power Station, the other end into your normal EHU of the caravan. Heres a link to one : - but be careful, these cables can be quite short. amzn.to/3BlEr6n Hope that helps. How does that cost compare to a good quality lithium leisure battery designed for off grid?
@TheTrudgians2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ruth a 110ah lithium battery currently retails for around £700. This will not have any 5v or 230v outputs and you would have to invest in a charger separately to this.

I bought the 757 powerstation + 3 solar panels package two weeks ago and intended using it for off-grid 3d-printing. However it randomly turns off the power on the AC outlet and requires a hardware reset. The 3d printer has variable power requirements up to 260 watts max so should not trip the 757 powerstation. It’s failed once every day while connected to the solar panels and has needed a hardware reset each time. That’s a lot of wasted time and material... Seems ok so far when 3d printing while the 757 powerstation is connected to mains supply or not connected to a supply at all, but that’s not how I’m using it. Am in daily contact with Anker support who keep saying “we stand behind our product and we would like to make things right” but they have not offered any practical support.

Looks very similar to the EcoFlow Delta Mini & I’ve just paid £900 at the Norfolk Motorhome show.
@TheTrudgians2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pete, yeah very similar in specifications except the EcoFlow has an expected cycle life of just 800 cycles. However, thats pretty much the same as many others (and far more expensive) Power stations on the market too. This is one of the reasons why i chose to review this one because of its high cycle value and that long warranty. Do let me know how you get on with the EcoFlow, i think these things will become more popular as time goes on, and yours could be a great choice, especially at that price point. Take care Dan

Good review but the stats quoted are overrated. Eg it won’t run a microwave for 90 minutes unless it is on a low setting. Works out to be less than 100amp lifepo4 although this would be double of a normal caravan LA battery. Rated at 1229wh, a microwave will draw 100-125 amps per hour so nearer 45 minutes. Whilst talking about saving money in going off grid which is great, you need to invest further in the solar panels to charge. On the plus side it is portable and may appeal to occasional off grid use based on using appliances quotes in the review.

I'm not convinced of the financial case, to be honest. Firstly, many CLs are £15 with electric. Secondly, it's easy enough to spend a weekend away on a 110ah leisure battery without draining it and if we wanted to go for longer, our cheap 100w solar panel would keep the battery topped up. Essentially, we'd be paying over a thousand pounds to be able to run the microwave (we don't have aircon).
@andrewtucker30702 жыл бұрын
I am not sure I agree about the cost savings. Yes an off grid site is way cheaper than a club site but so are the vast majority of sites with power even many private sites with similar facilities such as showers and laundries. We have just returned from Cornwall where we paid £19 p.n. for a fully serviced pitch. An off grid site might typically be about £5-£10 cheaper than a similar site with power. Comparing them to overpriced club sites which no price conscious person would use anyway makes no sense.

Hey Dan. Great video btw. To comment on a comment below. Maybe you should show on how to make up a short custom cable that plugs into the Anker then into the van's electrical socket? A 3 pin plug with a short bit of "2.5mm" Artic cable and a blue 16 amp socket? Just my pennies worth. Amazed at how many requests you get to test kit and settled for the Anker. Love it.
