Two things to think about that also helped you not win. You thought your opponent was weaker than you when you started the game. That was a strategic weakness on your part and made you play unfocused. A person does not get to that point in a tournament without having strengths to get there. You underestimated your opponent. Because of the underestimation you played slower in the beginning which assisted in causing you the time issue. You lost because of a mental lapse in strategy. You are very good, however, you must never overestimate yourself. It is a consistent tragic flaw for most who lose in situations that require strategy. Study history & you can see it time & time again.

@@aspartameindustry I would like to respectfully disagree. I personally am not mad. It was a mild disappointment at most. Also, click-baiting is not the business of KZbinrs categorically. If I saw her channel as ordinary or sub-par, I would roll my eyes and move on. But it's exactly because I see her as being better than that, that I am mildly disappointed. Just my opinion: at 7:20, I think that playing c4 to block the white bishop would have been a good option. This move would leave the white bishop trapped behind the queen with only two possible moves. After that, the plan would cont.. black capturing the white knight and then playing e5. Of course, it depends on whether white decides to take on e5 or advance to d5. By that time, I would aim to move the black knight from d7 to d6, either via c5 or e5. Secured by the pawn on c4, this knight would block the white queen and bishop while also threatening the trapped rook. However, I wouldn't exchange that knight for the rook just yet, as keeping it would give me more time to launch an attack on the kingside. It’s an idea that might work! :)

Thanks Anna! I think from the positions you reached you should have won this tournament. However it's true that playing faster could raise your chances even more! And one more thing: Don't think too much about winning just play the positions! When I played our traditional Blitz tournament (around the 6th of December) I always wanted to win it! When I finally won this tournament once (and the only time) i thought that I'd finish second if I drew the last game (which I did). But it turned out that it was sufficient for winning the tournament! What a pleasant surprise! It would have been even harder had I known that a draw would have secured me the victory in this tournament! That's highly psychological - the pressure under that you'll put yourself! I love how you find a way to keep things private while your there but having your own commentary over the game! You've definitely made chess very fun to watch! I'm sure you'll also achieve your goal at getting faster this year and I'm sure your learning lots from watching the game being played again now you can reanalyze your strategies. At the end, you can really tell that Miss Anna was very annoyed with herself by the way she's rubbing her neck raw. But as always, Miss Anna is gracious in defeat. She's a joy to watch.

Hello Anna. I love your videos. Your attitude and personality is so engaging. I played a lot of chess long ago, was in the school chess clubs etc. But then I grew up and life got in the way. I raised a family, had a professional career (well, several in fact, including being a musician, being a business owner, it's quite a resume) which took up much of my time, and now that all of that is behind me, I'm reengaging.

Fantastic! you played so well! defeated only by your own slowness, which you already have as a goal to work on. I love your interest in words and language! and you have the far and away the best incidental music while the game is unfolding. So dramatic! I feel as though I've been drawn into a movie. Dramatic and relaxing at the same time. Great music and wonderful chess at the same time. It's like being in heaven. Thank you for creating these sorts of experiences for us to enjoy and learn from!

Strong narrative doesn't need emotive string music, l love that you play well and speak without using distancing or hesitation words Thanks for sharing this game

You were so close, but time got you again forcing you into panic mode. But you did have a good time and made new friends. Chess Princes.

5 minutes is not long enough for a game of chess.

My thoughts exactly, I really hate the addition of a timer, urgency has no place in chess, you should be absorbed in the game not distracted by a clock, I mean I get it they need to get through the games quickly to cram a tournament into the alloted time but no-one there's going to take 'that long' about it, it just feels like a cheap addition

Great game! Love your channel. It has inspired me to get back to playing chess. Just today, for the FIRST TIME, I beat the computer on the "HARD" level. Loads of fun!!!! Thank you for sharing so many great videos on Chess. I always learn something and I love watching the strategies involved. OH! Loved the "Anna, stop drinking beer and look at the board." Hahahaha!!! So much fun!

When I ran casual backgammon tournaments overseas, first prize was a bottle of French wine, second prize was a bottle of American wine, and third prize was *two* bottles of American wine. Great fun.
