I was pretty sure he was sandbagging on his first move, when he slid his pawn to e4 instead of picking it up and placing it the way beginners do. I was entirely sure as soon as he played Nd4. Beginners either use two hands to capture a piece or pick up the captured piece after letting go the capturing piece. He had, as you observed in a general sense, way too much practice moving the pieces to be only a couple of months playing.

Not picking on Anna...every chess channel now has these videos. 1) Never underestimate someone during your first game with them, and 2) if anyone tells you they are new to chess, they are lying.

I would say that what gives away the most that he is an expert is that he keeps himself so very focused on the game since the very beginning, even when Anna keeps asking him questions and talking over and over again.

So you see they're just so good at chess , I can never understand what goes on in their mind . When she said so you'll take my rook and I just wasn't able to figure out how. Like I wanna be good at chess but I have a long long long way to go.

Maybe Fares was just being modest! He played a great game! And don't worry about his rating, especially in the middle of a game! Just play the pieces!
