@kylajensen19579 күн бұрын
I feel like amnesia is used as a cheap plot device without considering just how terrifying it'd be to just *not remember* anything about yourself. Like, the existential crisis would be insane. I think the closest we ever got was in the early comics/season zero of Yu-Gi-Oh, where the Pharaoh, due to dark magic shenanigans, has amnesia and is absolutely psychotic. In addition to losing his memory, he was trapped in a magic artifact for 3,000 years (dub makes it 5000 for some reason) and was conscious the *entire* time, wandering around in the little maze dimension contained by the artifact. 3,000 years of complete darkness and isolation, all the while you have no idea who you are, how you got here, what you did to deserve this Hell, or if you're ever going to get out. Who wouldn't be violently unstable after that?
@opalishmoth85912 жыл бұрын
I love this version of Jane- in the play she simply sounds desperate as she sings. Here she is frustrated, as if she is facing the fact the choir can’t give her the answers she needs. She knows she’s human but doesn’t know what being human / alive means. For the majority of the play, the choir shuns her. Can’t fault them- she is a waking morbid existential crisis with a human body with a porcelain dolls head. So the frustration she feels is also wanting to be part of the group, but unable to do so. Of course she doesn’t realize she is non-verbally communicating her frustration. She is just desperate for a name, and doesn’t realize she is also desperate to not be an outsider. Which makes the New Birthday Song more impactful- They can’t give Jane her name but they can make her feel human.

for those who don't know the story of this character, I'll tell it here (Contains spoilers) She is part of a musical that tells the story of 6 teenagers who died in an accident on a roller coaster, the corpses of 5 of them were identified, except hers, which was found decapitated, and when the six arrived in the afterlife, they played a game to finally vote on who deserved to come back to life All the participants in this game have told a little bit about themselves in these songs, but as seen in the song by "Jane", she doesn't remember any information about herself at all, and with that, she wins the game and is given a second chance to live, as everyone else has had a life with memories except her It ends up having a good ending, where Jane's whole life (who is also revealed to be named Penny) plays on a screen, there she had a good childhood, grew up, got married, gave birth to children, raised a family, worked, aged and passed away peacefully by age, the other 5 characters passed to the afterlife peacefully

@rosae_rosae_rosa2 жыл бұрын
Maybe you don't know where the black eyes come from (if you do, don't bother read what's following, I'm gonna explain the context of the show) This song is from the musical theater "Ride the Cyclone". Six teens die during a ride in a roller coaster. They end up in the afterlife, with Karnak, a magical creature, that propose them to bring one of them back in life. This character has been decapitated in the accident, and no one found her head. She remains unidentified, and names Jane Doe, as all unidentified female corpses. Even she, in the afterlife, has no idea who she was. She is wearing a doll's head, I don't know exactly why. To be less scary ? To simply talk, hear and see ? This song is her attempt to prove the other teens SHE deserved to go back to life (she's not selfish, they all have their song). She is lamentating about the pain of not having memories, and not being able to peacefully go to the afterlife, and to be stuck with "John" (Doe. Male corpses)

This song introduced my 2 yr old to opera. I was playing it in the car and he started singing along with the vocal runs! So I started playing some arias from operas and he started singing along with those, too. If he ever becomes a famous musician, I'll know whom to thank!

Fun fact: If you watch the recording of this song in the musical you see Jane gets attached to a flying machine and gets spun around once, then flips upside down and stays there for a few seconds. This represents the two loops of the roller coaster and how the second one was never completed.

Also I love the line "just John and me" since it refers to John Doe, obviously, but it also seems to refer to John the Baptist (a priest that got beheaded), but - in a way - it can also refer to Ezra Lamb, her brother from Legoland, if we assume that Jane can remember little bits and pieces of her life, - and that Legoland is set before the events of, and connected to RTC - we could assume that she remembers having a brother, but *_not_* her brothers name.
