No shooting and no new kit here, bar the one-off machine Bruce (@phoenix on the UK NV forum) has built to solve the question: How do reloaders prevent their brass cases from splitting, with repeated use?
00:00 My intro
01:54 So Bruce, what’s Annealing?
09:46 So what are the existing options to anneal brass cartridge cases?
13:35 Bruce introduces his Automated/cooled annealing machine, using timed induction annealing.
(including @14:05 a quick mention of workshop safety)
21:53 Bruce explains/shows how he hardness tests his brass, to prove his machine works.
27:38 How Bruce had his hardness testing method verified…
30:46 Bruce demonstrates before and after annealing -hardness changes.
32:58 What happens if you over-anneal your brass?
36:03 Bruce anneals some cheaper European-bought 22-250 cartridge brass and gets good results.
37:50 How does everyone make use of this cool new technology?
39:55 How much power does Bruce’s new machine use (and what did it cost him)?
43:02 Thanks for watching & coming soon.
Thanks again Bruce! Credit also to AnnealingMadePerfect (Nz) as they’ve shared some very useful info.
UPDATE: To answer a repeat question, Bruce used the Webster Model W-20B hardness tester, which at the time he bought from Amazon for £30 - then it skyrocketed in price(!)
As you saw he did adapt it slightly for his needs too, by shaping the lower anvil to better fit within cartridge necks.
Bruce’s centrefire cartridge annealing service is available to all you reloaders, via Mike McLellan at Ythan Field Sports Supplies.
