Yep, I did it too also by accident. I had just built a nice annealer and annealed about 300 pieces and thought that was all my brass but then found another 101 in their respective cases 50 in each with 1 floater ( score, thank you Lapua!) Well after 50 cases I had grabbed the floater but because it was laying on it's side I noticed that the primer looked real clean. Then I noticed it was unused. I immediately shut the gas and checked the cases I was about to anneal and yep they were all primed. Then I checked out the ones I had already annealed and began thanking the Lord for His mighty hand of protection because everyone of them had a new primer. I couldn't believe it. So yeah, sometimes smart people do stupid things. Actually everyone does just hopefully not too often.

That is a good demonstration of the ignition setup for a 40mm grenade, small amount of powder and a large amount of space. The primer detonates in the pocket and causes the heavy projectile to fly down range. Not really the same with an empty case but the physics still hold.

This reminds me of my time in Viêt Nam, we had an incinerator at out HQ that we use to burn documents, one night while on watch I threw a handful of 5.56 mm rounds in the fire, it took quite a while (one minute or more) before the rounds went off, I was surprised they didn’t sound as loud as if they were fired out of a rifle, looks like only the primers ignited because there was no compression. Erik, you should try that too. Lol.

The wind was the uncontrollable factor. Reminds me of difficulties I've run into trying to cut metal with a torch out in the wind. I really think that if this had been done inside, the 6 seconds would have been more than enough to demonstrate what happens.

Heard a story of a man who used a 22 cartridge to replace a blown fuse in his old Ford pickup truck for the brake lights the short was pretty significant it took about 5 minutes to shoot him in the leg. And the only reason it took 5 minutes because that was how long it was before he hit the brake pedal

My buddy, who is also new to reloading ended up with a bent primer. He decided to take a hammer to it on the garage floor. I had already tested a primer in an otherwise empty case in my gun to see what I was dealing with before I ever loaded a full cartridge. He didn't notice I was plugging my ears. He wasn't expecting that much power.

I had that happen to me except my brass was LC 7.62 & primer was (I believe) Winchester & I was in the kitchen with 91/2' plaster ceiling with Bench Source sitting on 3' counter. The ceiling still bears the mark. Timer was set at about 6 seconds & the primer went just as the plate started to turn. I now double check my brass brass before annealing. Ever thought of trying that with the AMP?:)

I recently had two primers detonate in the cooling tray after annealing. I didn't realize I had 2 light strike dud primers that I had disassembled the round weeks earlier that found their way into my spent brass box. When they went off the primer punched a hole in the steel cooling tray, the second ricocheted off the steel table and hit me in the chest. I will be decapping all from now on spent or not.

LOL - can relate - sort of - went through the chore of getting the correct aztec mode on the AMP, and since it needs to be sacrificed, I was looking for any old brass that could be representative of the batch. Conveniently found one lying in a drawer and proceeded to run the aztec mode. When I was done, and as I put it into the pan I noticed it was primed... I think I was saved only by the length of the brass ( 375 H&H) - shorter cartridge would probably have left stains...
@pa6552
@pa6552 2 жыл бұрын
PS - I think that second torch was still hitting the case after it went to the next station. Anyway - you know what you did with this video - right? You showed "those" guys irrefutable proof that as long as they don't anneal for longer than 10s, live cases are OK - they're gonna use this video as proof... :)

when I was a kid we would fill 20 gauge shells with powder and a primer and stick them into plastic airplane models like an F-4 (use two of them) and light them up. The powder burned off like an after burner and the primer would cook off once the model was a molten fiery mess and blow burning ooze everywhere. Probably because we werent into annealing brass yet.

So I had this happen to me once. The primer didn't go off until it fell into a cake pan. The primer flew out of the case and went through the side of the pan, through my hoodie and shirt and still punctured me pretty good. Literally left a gun shot like wound. I was also 1 ft away from the pan when it happened. I have a picture if you would like to see what it can do to the body. Not fun.

I live near a marine base in California and and they have a war game ever now and then my friends would go our there and pick up unforeseen Blanks and we used to shoot the primers out of a sling shot handle using a flare to heat up the Blanks and we used to aim it at coke (rc) cans and we got really good at aiming it. The primers would go thru the cans and into the broads we used to use as a back stop. That was about 57 years ago. Those primers was. Anyway it had some speed and power. I wouldn't recommend doing in a controlled environment.
